- Wowwww I am LUCKY haha. I didn't notice until afterwards when I got back to shore (and especially when I looked at the video), but my key was hanging out of my wetsuit for this entire TWENTY FIVE MINUTE WAVE. So sketch! Plus, this wave is located 2 hours away from home, in the middle of the wilderness down a dirt road, and I was alone. AKA if I had lost the key, I would have been so so so screwed. Very grateful that it all worked out, and my new wetsuits have key pockets under the chest zip, so it's much safer haha.
But yeah, this is a super fun wave! You can't tell how fast and big it is with the low gopro angle from the board, but it's one of my favourite river spots. And I really can't complain about getting 25mins all to myself on ONE wave. Good times!

In a world soaked in you tube wave clips, that by far was the most uplifting stoke inducing wave ive had the pleasure to drool at! stoked for you mr orion!
Tysm! Always stoked to share the stoke! 🎉🔥😊
I was wondering what was in your hood, then I watched another one of your video's and realized what it is.
What is the water temp of the St. Lawrence in mid August?
@@geezersurf haha ya my hair! This is from spring so it's like 3 C water. But now in July it's about 25 C
Brother how is this wave produced? Like im baffled im from amsterdam but I need something like this its crazyyy
@@Jamizdoorson It's a natural standing river wave! We have tons of big ones like this in Canada. Super fun. I'd love to go to Amsterdam one day
Is this considered the longest wave surfed in history lol
Haha I think the longest is like 7 hours. I considered going for the record but haven't planned it
let me ask you a question my very long riding friend. Where IS A DIS?
Secret spot 🙃
@@OrionSurfs oh you, fair enough :D. Hats down!
@@oakwitt3111 Shred on homie! 😍🤙🏻
I think I'm a bit in shock. I have so many questions. Is it a single special wave or are all waves like that there? How far were you from your car after 25 minutes of surfing? Do you usually surf more than one wave per session?
It's a standing wave in a river so the water moves but not the surfer, besides left and right while doing turns. In theory you could surf it forever. The rapids behind the wave can be gnarly to swim through on wild waves like this but you swim to shore, walk upriver, and repeat. Sometimes I do just one wave like this day, but usually I fall after 5mins or so when trying manoeuvres so I take several waves. If I'm not falling, I'm not trying hard enough haha. I was taking it easy this day
@@OrionSurfs Thanks for the reply, man! This looks insanely fun to do. Keep rocking 💪
Did you notice that my key was hanging out of my leg pocket for the entire surf? Lmao I'm so lucky I didn't lose it and get stranded in the woods!
🤣🤣
how is it possible to have a wave last this long?? How does that work in a river
It's a tidal bore, when a very strong incoming tide pushes a wave up the river
@@colinthin2264 Is it? Looks more like a standing wave to me. A lot of rivers have them. You could surf it forever if you don't get tired.
@@moremilitary871Yeah it's a standing river wave. Absolutely could surf it forever but this one only lasts a few days a year, so probably max 48 hours if you were BEAST haha
You'll notice the same tree in the background of the whole video. Must be a loop or something
its because its in a river and a current is pushing him making it so he isnt actually going anywhere
Exactly, what Pierce said. The water is moving but I'm still (besides during my turns)
Kinda the opposite of an ocean wave in a way
