SOUTH LA -
At approximately 2327, LAFD and CHP responded to reports of a multi vehicle TC with one car possibly split in half. Arriving units found a 4 vehicle TC with 4 patients,1 trapped in a Scion with major rear end damage. The Two occupants of the Scion were pronounced dead at the scene,. Two people were transported the hospital in fair condition. The 110 NB was completely shut down, causing a major traffic delay and motorists stranded in the closure. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time

I know right. It’s so disturbing that I can’t look away.
I remember this day. I was driving on that freeway because I had to drop some things off to my workplace in DTLA. Traffic was at a complete stop for almost 2 hours. People were literally driving backwards to get out the freeway!!! People are so impatient in LA. So I dropped off what I had to drop off and on my way back on the 110S off Century there was ANOTHER accident that had just happened. It looked bad. It looked like a van tried to dodge another car and instead rammed into the wall. The door opened and his body was against the steering wheel and has arm hung loose out the car. Idk if he was dead or not. I hope he made it. Im assuming the car accident had just happened because only 1 cop was on the scene. He was running back & forth and looked stressed out. I think all other first responders were still helping clear this accident on the video. I felt so sick that day and very sad for all the victims. I just wanted to get home that night. Im blessed that I did. You just never know. Please drive safe people. For you and for everyone else we share this World with.

One is 5’8 165 pounds, the other boxer is 6’2 220pounds . Who is going to have the advantage in the fight ? Obviously the bigger boxer . Same thing with cars at the time of a crash .

My Scion died on me in the middle of Hwy 50 on a dark night. Amazingly, I was able to glide down an offramp to safety. I loved that car but it had endless engine problems and that was the end for me. The mechanic did a quick "fix" and told me to dump it asap. I sold it to CarMax the next day. This video makes me so happy I did. That could have been me.

The guy being wheeled out on the gurney painted such an interesting picture. I don’t know if he was at fault of someone else, but his face showed an arrogance usually in my experience of a certain level of stupidity. And, the phone, that was priceless, in the heat of all that mayhem he was hanging on to that phone like it was his salvation. When are people going to realise how these bloody phones are manipulating and destroying our lives.

They all did a shity job during my accident last year. The police intercepted my AAA tow truck and sent my car somewhere they didn't know and 3 months after my accident someone finally realize I didn't sprain my ankle I broke my entire leg...

From the damage to the Scion and other vehicles I believe the Scion stopped in a traffic lane for whatever reason. The white car came upon the stationary Scion, swerved quickly but still clipped the Scion. The blue car was behind the white car when it suddenly swerved. The driver's view in the blue car was blocked by the white car. When the driver realizes why the white car suddenly swerved it was too late and he plowed into the rear of the Scion at a high rate of speed (55+ MPH). But that's my assessment of what happened and I could be wrong. Having spent several years driving tractor-trailer trucks I have witnessed many idiots stop right in the middle of the road for a flat tire, engine failure, etc. Some people when driving have no concept of anything behind them. In their mind nothing exists behind them and therefore just stop in the middle of the damned road. Personally I think anyone that demonstrates an inability to realize, while driving, that there is a world that exists behind their vehicle should have their driver's license permanently revoked. These are the people who only partially position their vehicle into a center turning lane and leave the ass-end sticking out into traffic. When turning into a parking area from a highway they stop with one half of their vehicle in the parking lot and the rear half stuck out in traffic while they think about which spot to park in. I could list many more examples but you get the idea. There is a way to spot these morons before they f**k-up and cause you to park your car up their ass.. Every slight bend in the road, every small bump, every time a vehicle in the opposite lane passes by, these morons hit their brakes. Driving behind these idiots is nerve racking because you don't know if they are about to stop, turn off of the road, etc, because their brake lights are constantly on-off-on-off-on-off.
WARPHEAD. I'm with you. I drove professionally for 20 +years. Never ceased to amaze me how stupid some people can be. And it's getting worse. Now, just about any idiot can go to "Jose's pizza parlor, shoe repair shop, and truck driving school", and be a "truck driver" in a couple days. I'm SO glad I'm retired!!! Stay safe my brother!!
My Mom and me got rear-ended, we were at a stop on highway and some women driving a Cadillac Escalade falls asleep on drugs hits us at 66mph. We were driving a 04 Mercury grand Marquis it crushed the trunk be into the back of the front seat. I would say any smaller car I don't see anyone surviving.
Just keep your distance away from them, and don’t forget that to them you might be a nerve racking a*e as well.
Some things mentioned I agree with, but don’t forget that there might be elderly drivers, young drivers, parents with kids or those who have been traumatized due to the previous accidents... Also, constant on and off brake phenomenon could be simply a preventative measure against the cars in front.
and then there is the lady that stopped in the middle of the freeway to help some duck get across the hwy. A motorcycle with a man and his daughter riding on back hit her and they went flying. They both died on the spot cause some lady was worried about ducks being safe, but had no regard for humans behind her. Crazy

I got hit by a girl with a baby in her car. Once i realized what had happened I saw her on her phone. She never stopped texting. I took lots of pictures of her I also recorded her telling me she was texting her husband to pick up another child at a school. She had no insurance. Tried to blame me. Evidence was stacked against her. My insurance paid my truck. Don't know what happened to her vehicle.

In the state that I live in, if you "rear end" another vehicle, it is your fault. No "if" "ands" or buts". That is the law, period.

What you have stated is generally not true. I work in accident claims. I'm not aware of any specific law you speak of. In general it may be assumed a rear end crash is always the fault of the party doing the rear-ending, but that is not always the case and there can be many exceptions. If someone stalled their vehicle on the highway and didn't take appropriate actions to exit the roadway, and they didn't illuminate flashers at night there would most likely be a determination of comparative fault. That is only one of many possible examples.

If you look at the news clip someone provided, the Scion was having some mechanical difficulties and 4 other cars hit them. This is horrible! These people died because they were in a raggedy ass Scion. It is a complete waste of aluminum. My heart goes out to all involved and their families. RIP

I understand that he may or may not have been using his phone while driving, but c’mon. The guy hasn’t put down his phone in this entire video. People are way too dependent on their phones these days. Look how hard he hit that other car? This guy is going to remember this for the rest of his life. Two people are dead because of this.
People keep saying he was texting dont live or havent drove through LA. Nobody is texting on those LA highways at night. Everybody is driving 75 to 80 mph on average. Clearly a rear end accident with the Scion stopping ahead and dude behind speeding.
Sometimes when you tail someone too closely to slow down safely in traffic, you don’t stop in time. You crash into and kill several people and destroy the lives of several families. Doesn’t happen all the time. Well, actually, it does.

Older Scion xB, a 2005, crushed to half its size. Basically a boxy tin can car, google a complete vehicle picture of it. But it was hit by a car going really fast, based on the damage probably phone using/stretcher guy was driving the offending car. 1:38 poor lady Scion driver, rest in peace in heaven.

Let me clear this up for some of you. At 0:49 you can see the driver. At 1:38 you can see the back seat passenger and she is the one that died. The car got hit from behind and that is how she was killed.

That scion wasnt split in half look at 1:35 you can see the rear license plate and if you follow that up the car you can see the entire frame collapsed on itself...not a great safety feature...

I’ve watched a lot of crash videos. Many times you will see the wipers still going on even worse crashes than this. My assumption is upon impact your arms start flailing, easily bumping the wiper switch on (most cars the switch is located on the steering column). IMO
Crashes like this happen nearly everyday in my area😩People still dont learn

It is kinda interesting he found his phone! I think my phone would be the last thing I would be looking for if I was in an accident let alone if I was driving and someone I cared about died in it!

By the severity of the damage, it looked as though the Scion was either at a standstill for some reason or close to it.

So, it seems like the phone guy ran into a Scion stopped in the middle of the freeway, and then a few more cars hit both him and the Scion. If the Scion didn't have their flashers on, it would have been incredibly difficult to see in time.
Orsa Orsa they may have had to stop for some other lagging cars who knows? Its sad either way!

t3true Designs most newer cars automatically turn on hazards whenever an airbag deploys. It’s a safety. She could have turned them on before too, but this does happen.
if the guy still has his phone that must mean he had it in his pocket or it would have been smashed and lost in the accident, that being said, the lady was most likely the problem.
Um everyone talking about the guy on the phone do you ever think hes probably letting a family or friend know he was just in a very seriouse accident. He looks like he was overwhelmed by everything.

And what if the car is Broke down and can’t run? You gonna get out of the car where cars are flying at you? That’s why bums need to stay off their phone like it’s going to disappear and not pay attention at where you going. Looks like he’s was busy texting and ran into the scion because lack of awareness. On top of that speeding while texting. I’m sure this is what exactly happened. Only way to get off is if people can slow down and see hazards ahead like they way taught in school and majority of people in this generation don’t care.
If you live in LA you know that this is common. Some will stop after they've missed exits to attempt to make it. Many will stop completely when emergency vehicles are coming up behind them. There are fa too many who have come here, are now on our roads and have never driven an automobile. Yeah, but that's diversity. All one imposing demographic. Right?
The crash was reported about 11:26 p.m. on the northbound side of the freeway near Slauson Avenue, California Highway Patrol Officer Kravig said.
The incident began when two people in a Scion SUV came to a stop in lanes, likely because the vehicle was disabled, Officer Jessie Karasinski said. Another vehicle came along and crashed into the Scion. We don’t whether the hazards were on or not at this time,” Karasinski said.
A woman who had been driving the Scion and a man in the passenger seat were killed in the crash, Karasinski said.
The driver was later identified as 37-year-old Bilda Santizo of Los Angeles by coroner's officials. The passenger was a Latino man in his 60s who lived in San Bernardino, but his name was not being released pending the notification of his family. Three more vehicles then struck either the Scion or the vehicle that initially hit the Scion.
Only one person involved in those crashes complained of pain, but was also expected to be OK, Karasinski said.
The multivehicle crash prompted officials to issue a SigAlert around midnight for four northbound lanes, Kravig said. The freeway lanes remained closed for several hours but reopened just after 5 a.m.
The crash was under investigation, Karasinski said.
