LightCan you’re not wrong to point out plot holes (and goodness knows there are many) but I’d hazard a guess that the ‘best thing in the film’ opinion about Babu Frik comes from how his character fits well into the Star Wars aesthetic (even including the OT). He’s a humorous practical effects puppet alien operating a cut-rate mech workshop out of a drug gang’s basement. That’s pretty on the nose for Star Wars.

You might want to steer clear of the original Star Wars trilogy though, if practical effects puppetry isn’t something you find entertaining.

It looks like a CGI addition when Babu pops up in Zorii's star fighter. I'm almost positive that Babu's earlier scene was so well received by early viewers that he was added at the end there.

Babu Frik was nearly cut because some execs at Disney thought he would be the new Jar Jar. They are really surprised that people love him this much. He was JJ's idea and was created in collaboration with some artists and puppeteers. The personality was all JJ.
Jar Jar is loud, obnoxious and always getting in the way. While this guy is just a little weird but helpful dude that fixes stuff and is generally understated.
