Amy is definitely my favourite Christine after Sarah. Absolutely beautiful

Love it. I wonder how many people missed Josh/Erik wandering around in the background dressed as a stagehand during this scene. It was easy to miss but such a cool detail. I think I realised it the second time I attended the show, then I started noticing the other scenes he was in the next time I attended, there were a few!

@@christinevergara5357 He wanders in at about 00:16 and stops briefly. He was also in the Hannibal scene, then at "brava, brava, bravissima", the ballet of course just before he hangs Buquet, then he was up on the balcony changing a lightbulb as they were talking about him below. One more scene I think but I forget. All of this was confirmed by Josh when someone asked if it was him. :)
So clever, and very in keeping with the Phantom, because he would know no-one is noticing the stagehands!

For the record, I saw the principal cast perform twice, and upon watching the graveyard sequence again now, I've come to a realisation. The singing is phenomenal, but the simplified set and new stage directions (particularly during Wandering Child) aren't amazing. Having The Phantom stand at eye level with Christine and Raoul rather than atop a crypt per the old staging makes it hard to feel the true weight of his influence. I also wish they had the fire shooting skull stick. Nevertheless, a beautiful production :)

The punch-on is absolutely hilarious (especially when you can see it's fake, which of course it has to be- we don't want actors getting hurt, of course!), and to be honest, the cape-twirl/pyrotechnic combo is a little cheesy. But I dunno, part of me likes how the staging of this production drives home that the Phantom isn't supernatural, he's just a very lonely, dysfunctional dude who has to resort to parlour tricks to scare people. I feel that's at least partly deliberate, makes it a bit more realistic. Certainly the spectacle of the original production is special and something to miss, but I think this approach has value too. :)

What was the point of bringing the fedora back if it only gets worn during the title song 😒
