I love the sound of a typewriter. When l was little, mum would have to bring home work (she worked full time and raised 2 boys) so at night l'd lay in bed listening to the sound of an old ball IBM typewriter going clickity clack sending me to sleep. Funny enough, the sound still makes me nod off. Have a wonderful weekend.

Oh that’s a wonderful memory. I have a similar memory of my dad typing on his computer while I’d fall asleep.

You’re a soul after my own heart. I started handwriting diaries in the 60s and got my first typewriter in the early 70s. Then I started typing my journals. Then I got my first Apple Mac in 1983 and started writing on the word processor. Now all these years later I still keep a word processed journal that I’ve stopped printing as I have bankers boxes full of the things. It’s crazy how it adds up. Start thinking what your long term storage plan is going to be.

Oh that’s so amazing! I love your journal history timeline and how it’s evolved with the times. I already feel like I don’t have enough storage, haha. >.

The important thing about your book binding is that it was done with passion and soul. I do miss the sound of a typewriter because it is very calming. Thank you for your video presentation. Take care.

I started journaling with fountain pens in a journal in March 2021, stream of consciousness also. In August 2021 I noticed that I was censoring myself. Then I came upon a RUclips (which I can no longer find) recommending folks make a commitment to destroy their journals as a key to becoming more honest with yourself in your entries. Wow, did it work! What a relief. I feel so unburdened! IThe video didn't say when you should destroy what you've written. A year later and I've filled up two Tomoe River journals that are 365 pages each. It's going to be hard to shred them, but I think it is time. I'm going to go through them and photograph the occasional abstract drawings and ink play I've done. I think that will help me let go. Please know that I'm not recommending this to anyone who doesn't fully resonate with the idea. Just thought I'd share a different way that has been helpful to me.

That Adler is a beautiful machine (=
I always plan on typing my journal entries, but I never end up doing so. But whenever I have to take long notes, I use my little Olivetti Lettera 22. I keep the typed notes along with the pen ones, in Atoma notebooks (using the proprietary punch and ring system).
    Thanks for the video.

Ohh, I love this! This popped up in my recommended after I just got a typewriter recently. The idea of typing up a diary and then binding and archiving it is lovely! I'm not typing as fast as you yet but maybe one day :)

I just encountered this, how amazing. I'm using a keyboard that kinda looks like and feels like a typewriter, so I went on YT to see if anyone actually uses an actual typewriter, and here you are! I am so inspired, I might actually get a real typewriter! I'm fascinated by the idea of a typewriter journal! I'm going to give this some thought. Thank you so much!

Thank goodness i found this video. I have been wanting to make a journal to process my grief of losing someone. But i feel discouraged because of typing it in my typewriter and gluing it in my journal notebook. Im glad that there's an easy way to make a journal like this.

A girl after my own heart ... I always loved typing and learned in high school. I got a manual typewriter my senior year to take to college for typing term papers (early 70's). My first job after college was at an insurance company and I used my typing skills daily ... later on I transcribed Mental Status exams for a forensic psychiatrist on an IBM Selectric typewriter and I could make that thing sing and loved that round ball font that could be changed. On to keyboard skills and word processing ... all to say that my typing/keyboard skills have served me well for decades and now I wish I still had a manual typewriter. Oh the memories and glad you are keeping yours and made into a bound book. So fun. Keep up the fun journaling!!

Oh that typewriter was music to my ears - and slightly helped take my mind off my back pain! This video came up on my feed when I was trying to decide what to watch. I've seen a couple of bookbinding channels on here but have forgotten their names. Now you've made me want to buy a typewriter! Guess I'll have to put that on my wish list!

Love this. Handcrafted binding is the best! I was hoping you could link info about the 6-ring binder? I feel like you may have mentioned it before but cannot locate that info. I have about 7 typewriters now (6 too many!), and "have plans" to do an A5 size type-journal.

Probably before you were even born I discovered that my "writing mind" ABSOLUTELY works differently between putting the words out with a writing implement such as a pen or pencil, or a keyboard. I also noticed a difference between my "thinking rhythm" between a manual typewriter and an electric (later electronic) keyboards. You should do a journal page or two exploring this sensation and clarifying to yourself what the differences are and how you approach writing with each medium. Just for self-exploration and edification!

Why do you use a binder for your typewriter journal but use bound journals for when you hand write your entry?

    • @adventuredenali

Because I prefer a bound journal. That being said, I did try to use a binder for both hand and type written entries, but I didn’t enjoy the feel of it.
