I believe this data, getting an advanced degree does not equate to increases pay in nursing. I've known many RNs mainly ICU ones who either could not get a position to utilize their Masters degree, or made more money as a staff nurse in the unit. The same thing is true for some folks with a NP degree.
Given this the feeling some junior nurses do not see a cost benefit in an Advance degree. Plus they already have student debt from their BSN programs.
I agree 100% with something you said in your previous post: that a BSN in nursing does not make you a better bedside nurse! In 30 yrs nursing I have encountered many outstanding Diploma or 2 yr grads who were. Better nurses than me.
    Will keep on posting.

the cost/benefit ratio is skewed so far it almost does not make sense to attend a masters program at this time. Also, you hear the horror stories of many NP programs where student have to secure their own clinical sites and there is minimal support for students from the schools/programs. Additionally, being locked into a NP specialty i.e. FNP, AGNP, midwife etc is so limiting. Im sure there is a reason for it but why aren't NPs trained in all areas so they can have the flexibility in choosing where to work. PAs enjoy the flexibility to work almost anywhere... RNs enjoy similar flexibility and can work anywhere, however, when a RN wants to advance their role, they have to limit themselves to a certain population? Two thumbs down. Just my 2 cents from an internet random. Great video. Thanks for posting.

You are absolutely right. NPs should be trained in all specialty areas. I'ms sure most NP programs arent complaining since going back for additional certs is a money maker

PA programs are better. Guaranteed clinical sites, better standardized curriculum, all in one certification with the PANCE, including first assist. NP education needs an overhaul.

Unfortunately, PA programs around me require students to help find clinical placements too, although the schools do try to contract with some departments/providers.

Thank you. Its been the story for a long time. Not much of a pay increase with the advanced degree, unless you happen to find that right niche or be in the right place at the right time.
