Great video. I assume the HardRock does not have a built in tuner? If not, and you are portable with say a wire antenna, how do you match your setup to the antenna, since only the KX2 has a tuner? Do you have to use an additional outboard tuner?
I received my KX2 and I am ready to use the amp with it. Am I correct in assuming you only cable to connect the ACC port to the KX3 board on the AMP. I was hoping you only need one connection. PS what port did you plug into out of the 4 on the board?
I’ve watched your video at least ten times In the past few months. How has this worked for you? Or is it too soon to tell? I’m looking at the KXPA100, which is nice, but I’m not sure I want or need all of that for my purposes. I just want to work my KX2 outdoors with a little more power, like 50w CW. Have you run this off a battery pack yet? I have a Bioenno 12Ah (the fat pack) that I use for a few different 100w rigs and it works fine, it should work for this too,
No, it's not to early to tell - I am very glad to have made the purchase. The HR-50 continues to work like a charm with both the KX2 and my Anan 10e. I ordered parts yesterday to build a 17AH battery pack for use with the KX2/HR50 and will describe it once built. During a recent outdoor activity, two hours of operation of the HR50 used 4.4AH. More info on that is here: ae5x.blogspot.com/2019/03/kff-3056-activation-report.html
AE5X thanks for the quick reply. I’d actually been to your blog site and caught the update on the POTA activation which was very helpful. The Hardrock is really the best option for me, for this season, at least. I only wish I’d ordered it earlier, before the snow melted. It’s real hard to find indoor time for projects at this time of the year, though it’s still early in the year.
I placed my order this morning. Basically same setup as you. I also ordered the toroids from the torrid guy, I’m fine with winding them, but I need my magnifying swingarm light in my shack and a bit of time that I don’t have right now. I also picked up a BNC four hole jack for the input to save an adapter and space (I have a plan).
Their website says they'll be available in December - 2 months ago...that and the fact that their online support forum is no longer available is not a good sign. Glad I got one of these when I did.
Excellent video. First time I've seen the set up of the Hardrock with the KX2. Thank you! 73
Thanks for the comment - 73
Nice video John. Looks like a great setup. Thanks for sharing. 73, George K2WO
Thanks George, I'm looking forward to getting outdoors with this duo.

This amp is nice with the 817nd too.

The HR-50 has a built in autotuner available as an option. Mine has it.

Thank you for the video. I have the amp but no the QSK board. Do you need it for CW and digital modes..
No, it is not necessary for either mode. It just makes CW better for those who like QSK.

@@gsansoucie I'm sure you'll like it, and the tech support can't be beat.
That HR QSK seems quiet. Pin diodes? Do you have the ATU for the HR?
Yes to both - here is a link to the QSK board:

Thanks. I just completed my HR 50 and ATU today. I bought the KX3 kit based on this video. Hooking it all up tomorrow.
Wish they still sold these.

Where did you get that knob?
Bought it on eBay from this guy in Maine:

I have the same knob from the same guy. I’m in Maine, but I’m not the guy who sells them. Entirely different radio with that knob.
