Worked great thanks for posting the video.
    A couple of extra comments:
    1. No need to remove seat, just the base.
    2. After tying the string to the new cable - use tape to make a bullet shape so that there is nothing to catch.
    Thanks again

Thanks for adding this... I was hesitant to take the seat out. Gonna give this ago. 😀

+Judge-Disaster There's no need to remove the seat, but I didn't realise that when I did it, it also made filming easier.

    Thanks for the instructions.
I also took the seat out and worked in my front room.
    1) it's warmer
    2) so much easier moving the seat around.
I'd imagine it's a nightmare trying this in situ!
I couldn't quite figure out tying the two ends to pull it through so did what others have advised in the comments and unclipped the cloth back and rolled it up half way. It took me about 20 mins trying to figure out how they were attached. The front cloth is interlocked with the back cloth at the bottom of the seat. Kind of like two C's facing each other. I took off the plastic guard and got a screwdriver in between the C's and twisted. Once the edge was out the rest just followed.
I bought a new handle as suspected I was going to break the old one. Glad I did as it was a sod and ended up breaking it

These fiesta handles are prone to breaking really easy. Even when fitting new ones they always seemed as though they were going to break straight away. So what I did on both mechanisms where the seat hooks onto the base i used my dremmel to grind off the powder coating on the hooks and on the seat base where the hooks grab onto. This made the seat work a lot better and seemed to take a lot of stress off the seat handle. Also smeared a bit of grease on as well but not too much. Hope this helps to everybody.

Lubricating the tilt release mechanism at the bottom of the cables is going to make a difference. Definitely worth doing if you've got as far as replacing the cables.

Handy video. Didn't need to remove the seat, but the 2x 10mm head bolts that hold the seat base in place underneath at the front make access to the seat pivots a lot easier. Didn't bother with the string trick, split the seat upper join at the bottom and you can easily get your hand up the back and find the cable ends. Otherwise pretty easy. 20-30 min- job done.

Thank you Very much for this informative video, you've just saved me an absolute fortune . I needed to replace both the cables & the clasp on my driver side seat.A scrappy wanted £150 for the replacement.i spent a total of £73.49 from a local fords dealer & did the Job myself. Many regards Phil

Thank you for the video, I was able to follow the initial disassembly and discovered that the cable had just pulled out of the lower catch which I was able to reattach and then reassemble, all within 20 minutes.

to make it even easier undo the material on the seat, it just clips at the bottom and put your hand up

Your video helped a lot, thanks! Had to do it on both sides! The handles are pretty crappy, i already have to replace them 2 times, as they wear out and don't pull the cable.

even though its not necessary to take the full seat of the car to replace the cable, I would recommend doing it. You have very limited space to handle the cable inside the car, and it took me forever to put it in place but I ended up breaking it so I have to buy it again.

  • @waynecroot9452

Ok, here is my experience and read this well. The handle has a central pillar that has a clip, holding it in, top and bottom. Unless you have a new handle or some form of reference, you're going to struggle knowing exactly where to insert your screwdrivers and the width required. These are not easy clips and you may get the handle out unscathed but maybe not. However, DO NOT DO WHAT I DID which was to try to break bits of the old handle away (mine was broken anyway) to get a better view. The cable itself has a non-replaceable (part of the cable itself) protruding plastic vertical pillar and I ended up breaking a bit off that - so when the new handle went in, it didn't work as the nipple kept moving. I had the extra nightmare of removing that handle again. I had to buy a new cable (£36 by the way). The string method did not work for me (though putting it through helpfully reminds you where it routes) because there is some gauzy material excess, inside the seat and the cables got tangled up on it and eventually clipped into something inside the seat. So I did what I should have done to start with and took the door side lower seat plastic cover off, to expose the lower seat back, where the back seat fabric clips into the lower seat fabric. Gently take those apart, using two narrow screwdrivers and you can then see inside the seat. Clear out the excess gauze material and it's a million times easier to route the cables and twist the top end of the cable into the seat.

+Wayne Croot . Cheers Wayne I know the process can be a right pain in the butt. I read various methods when searching the internet, but one persons description and your interpretation can lead to a lot of angst. With that in mind I decided to have a go at replacing the cable (my handle was already broke and came out easy) and take video snapshots as I went along, yes the string and cable did seem to snag going through but careful tugging got it through. I posted the process to try and assist anybody wanting to DIY it as oppose to sending it to a garage. Some people appreciate your efforts and some pour scorn on them, but if I help two and annoy one I can handle it.All the best for trying and winning.

+SEGSY 59 Hi, I was trying to supplement your method if it went wrong, more than anything else. I think mine had been done before, on my ST, as that material inside was really bunched up but whether I did that, trying to get the old cable through, I don't know. Your method is plainly better if it all goes smoothly.

  • @God-uf8cf

pull up the material on the back bottom of the seat there's a long black clip holding it then put your hands inside feed the cables through much easier

This comment saved me. Cut my rope too short... Was impossible to push the cable through. Getting the upholstery loose was tricky at first. But it is some sort of hook connection that is easily loosened and fixated again). Thx man!

Hi mate thanks for the video. I know it's an old video but would you know where I could find the little spring that is on the metal latch's at the bottom of the seat where the two cables go into? Ford want me to buy a whole seat lol I guess a scrapyard would be my best bet?

My driver's seat no longer tilts, which is a pain in the neck when its a 3 door hatchback. As I cannot afford to repair someone to do this, and no idea what I should be doing correctly i will have to remain broken.
