In these strange modern times, we are constantly being conditioned to avoid any inconvenience, at all costs. It seems anything is permissible as long as it does not make life inconvenient. People confuse happiness with lack of inconvenience. This is an absolute disaster of a mindset. Inconvenience should be welcomed, not for the sake of it, but because it is a prerequisite for personal growth. Being stuck in a comfort zone is a slow death of indifference, melancholy, and dopamine addiction. All growth happens outside the comfort zone. Do not avoid inconvenience, embrace it in every aspect of your life. Inconvenience motivates you to be a better person, and this makes your life happier.
convenience may be humans worst enemy, that comfort and unwillingness to adapt adds up and ends up as what u described, heck it even affected me!! however once i started to love learning and going through that process of anxiety and discomfort from new things and experiences, it really is a life changer, i no longer have to live day by day questioning my existence within reality, i started to enjoy pushing my limits and even ended up being one of the best students when i was in high school!! now i can look at new things and not be discouraged, i think is a skill everyone should learn.
@@inevespace Thanks for the information! I remember his last video been in Summer of 2023 and saying he'll travel. I wish him just the best! He's awesome and I'm very grateful for everything he has done for the community!
For context, I have not seen the first video. I don't think you understand what a hobby is for. People do a hobby because they enjoy it. People play video games as a hobby because they enjoy playing video games. People try to get games working on linux because they enjoy trying to get games to work on linux. The moment they stop enjoying it, they stop doing it, assuming it hasn't become an addiction. From what I can tell, in the other video, you were trying to say that people who's hobby involves spending so much time trying to get games to work on Linux should consider if it is worth all the wasted time just to play the games. But you said yourself that you like the tinkering with linux aspect more than playing the games. If it's their hobby, then they most likely enjoy it too. I know I do. 0:58 You DONT think that people shouldn't use computers for anything "fun" or "wasteful" 6:08 You DO think that people should only play video games when we get more than gratification (aka enjoyment) out of them? Instead people should get hobbies where they can learn practical skills? You believe people should be able to have fun and waste time on their computers, but they shouldn't waste their time playjng video games where they dont learn anything? If you don't want people to misunderstand your point, make your point clear and consistent. 4:59 I am in the same boat as you with linux, where I enjoy tinkering and getting games to work. more than I enjoy actually playing the games, I enjoy that. That is a part of my hobby. 5:52 Mentioning forcing yourself to sit down and play a game makes no sense, and makes you seem disingenuous. People don't force themselves to do their hobbies. Then they wouldn't enjoy it, and it wouldn't be a hobby. 7:12 You brought up some valid counterarguments against your opinion. Instead of arguing against them or disproving it, say "yeah that happens, but In my experience its not good, so that must mean its bad for everyone" Maybe that's not what tou were saying, but it's whay it feels like. Dismissing other people's experiences because they weren't the same as yours is a very bad-faith move. 7:47 What does dealing with problems have to do with gaming? Unless your work is related to your hobbies, your hobbies are forms of escape. I agree that hobbies are not good ways to deal with problems. Doing a hobby To take your mind off of a problem you have is literally ignoring it and hoping it will go away, instead of dealing with it yourself. But acting like this is in ANY way exclusive to gaming on linux is misguided at best, and a targeted attack at worse.
Well in general hobbies are an escape in a way. However what is not generally applicable to hobbies is a lack of secondary benefit. If you want to escape your boring/exhausting(mentally or physically)/etc.. life by e.g. doing sports you won’t change your life but you will however gain confidence, improve your health and maybe even open up opportunities to change what bothers you in your life. With video games especially if your playing alone there is rarely an opportunity for secondary benefit like health improvement, gain of new practical skill. It’s the same as mindlessly watching TV . On the other side of you are playing with friends or online with opportunity to meet other people there is at least a social benefit to have. To sum it up: gaming has quite the potential to be a really big waste of time but if managed correctly you can game and actually gain something from it (and I haven’t listed all possible benefits)
Recognizing signs that a peer or friend is isolated is really important. People still stay inside and use conventional desktop computers(aside from jobs) could be due to their physical appearance and/or impairments which is why accessibility is so important, and makes the internet what it is.
My experience with Linux gaming has been really fine, although i have to say most of it is on emulators, which already have a great support, but i didn't have any problems with Steam so far, considering i was a Windows user for a long time before. The experience is still inconvenient because majority of gamers are on Windows, but like you said, that's ok, because people also forget that you have to do a lot of tweaks on Windows too, specially with mods, but for some reason it's always fine when it happens on Windows. Also, majority of gamers are on Windows, so it's expected to work better their.
One question; which is a really good XMPP client for android (esp. AOSP) ?? Also how about doing videos eradicating the fearmongering-falsehoods of dark-web ?
I was surprised seeing what it seemed to be a retraction of the previous video. But, yeah... I don't know what I was expecting from the pseudo-cultist Hamish Linux guy. Although you tried to lighten your point, your real opinion is still clear as glass. Linking videogames with mental problems directly is stupid. If I say "I like to tune my GNOME" you wouldn't go out of your way to ask me if I feel lonely or I'm looking for escapism, so you shouldn't do the same for videogames. But you do, because you believe videogames are bad. Is playing games for 3 hours bad? Really? I would say spending time in maintaining a cultist channel is much worse. Some old lady may say that you're wasting your time just by using the "computar" at all. It's judgmental, and a argument from a self-perception of high morality you don't really have. You don't get to tell to people that what they do is wasting time, while you do the same. Also, "starring at the window"? Really? I'm amazed you didn't say "Watch the grass grow".
