Donna Summer became my idol in 1976 when I was 10. She went to high school a mile from where I grew up in Dorchester, Massachusetts! I was fortunate enough to see her twice in concert. She was a talented and special woman! R.I.P. Queen 👑 of Disco and Pop music 🎶
Donna was the real deal. Her voice live sounded exactly like her records. Up to the end she never faltered. And what a treasure of songs she left us with. she is truly missed.
You can't separate the two ! It will ALWAYS BE "DISCO AND DONNA SUMMER" just like "DISCO AND THE BEE GEES" ! IT IS OUR AMERICAN MUSIC HISTORY. THANK GOD WE HAD THEM !
Aw, man. They dimmed all the lights when the Queen of Disco passed away. She did leave a lot of great songs behind, including this one. And DiscoCat showed great respect by extending “Dim All The Lights” with tender, loving care. This is a masterwork. I have to do something about the onions, Left them in the living room. Fantastic rendition. Takes me back to 1979. Wish I could stay there.
Disco Purrfection Indeed! Could listen to this one all day (And so I will ;) This track was in the midst of an insane run of singles from Ms. Summer with producer Giorgio Miroder on Casablanca records in 1978-1979. 1978 gave us Last Dance, MacArthur Park and Heaven Knows. And then 1979 saw Hot Stuff, Bad Girls, Dim All the Lights, No More Tears (with Babs) and On the Radio(!) Which is your favorite? 🤩… Hard to choose , Eh ? They all reached #5 or higher on US Billboard Pop (including four # Ones). They all went Gold or Platinum. How many artists have ever had eight singles like that ??😀❤️ Her extended notes still give me goosebumps ! 😮😊… So Indeed, Let Donna 🎵…Fill You Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-UUUU-UUUUUUUUP🎵!
RIP, Donna. What a voice! My fav is 'Last Dance'... It's documented that she passed of lung cancer due to the ash and soot that permeated the air during 911. She was in NYC when the towers fell.
That is her holding the long note. It is reverbed, but she does it on one breath. For a while, it was the longest note held in a pop song. Of course, Babs was also someone who capitalized on having lungs of leather... I'd love it to be 1979 again and hear this song and The Main Event/Fight and No More Tears, um , if you'll pardon the expression, on the radio... My only question: why does she pronounce "eternity" so strangely??
This gets filed right into my cardio music!! This lady was a huge part of my early life. Actually, surprised I’m still alive. She gave amazing concerts! 😁✝️
She really deserved the Grammy for Best Disco Recording. Overall, her record "Bad Girls" was greater than Gaynor's but, that's the way those awards go. Thanks again and again for your awesome versions.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I leave the lights on, I hope you don’t mind. I’d like to see where I’m going & where I’ve been.. Although you’re the ✨🕶DISCO CAT🕶✨ You can see in the dark. can’t you..😉 I’m gonna finish listening to this mix, and then I’m hitting the ocean 🌊🏄🏼♀️✨ I hope I make it back, today is a good day… Maybe I’ll just get in that shipping lane on my surfboard and head over to the Horizon✨.
You know a late boomer has to comment on this one, closing time at the Fantasy Club with my girl dancing into the early morning. The last song of the night and it's off to go Dennys.
Listening to this jewel from yesteryear makes me want to go to the closet and get my old victrola and play some of Donna Summer's tunes. By the way, did you know that Donna's performing name got to be Summer by mistake while recording in Germany? Yes, Germany, not the US. If curious, I guess you need to go and find out what happened.
Man, I played "Bad Girls" over and over again after I got it from my summer-job-made-money. Again a pretty emotional song for me Cat. You know how to hit them to me lately haha. Anyway. Great version. I mean GREAT VERSION. Catchy. Headnodder. Bodymover. Bringing me back. Thank you "One Take Donna" & Discocat!
Dim All the Ligths, una de mis favoritas de Donna Summer, y la una de las versiones extensas que esperaba, genial! Dim All the Lights, one of my favorites by Donna Summer, and one of the long versions I expected, great!
Wow, me & my cat enjoyed listening to Donna Summer's song "Dim all the Lights" & it always keeps my cat's ears up like an owl 🦉LOL AWESOME! ♥♥ 😛😛😋😋😸😸👍👍✌✌🙏🙏I have some of her albums.
This song should’ve been a #1 hit!! It probably would’ve went to #1 if Casablanca didn’t release No More Tears so fast. I heard she was disappointed that they released No More Tears so fast as she wanted that number 1 for Dim All The Lights as she wrote this song all by herself.
Watched her latest bio-pic. Super 8, real. Poor baby got a royal screwing from Casablanca; sold MILLIONS of records... didn't get paid. Suicidal at the height of her fame, suffering PTSD related to sexual and physical abuse at the hand of Pastor, boyfriends. A real survivor story. RIP, a woman who paved the way for many female artists. First Black woman with a prime time music video on MTV, countless Grammys and gold/ platinum albums. To thine own self be true.. Great job, as usual Cat!!!!!
Live from VH1 concert. Should start at 44 1/2 minute mark. She explained it was written for Rod Stewart to sing, but instead she sang her own song. "Sorry, Rod"...lol ruclips.net/video/dzExx6n7LHo/видео.html
Reached #2 in the US. Wanted to reach #1, but Casablancas INSISTED on releasing duet with Streisand before she saw her dream come true. Worked hard for the money.

It's funny coz over 40 something years later you still hear Donna's golden hits off the Bad Girls album everywhere...but not what Dionne Warwick 's music was at the time..the only 2 songs Dionne did I liked was "Them Came You"(1974) and "That's What Friends Are are For" (1985)
@@DJDiscoCat ok I guess I'm not familiar with those works she contributed. There was another one she did I kinda liked. It was called "Heartbreaker." I believe Barry Gibb wrote it for her. That was kinda of a nice one... and I knew she did backup for the Shirelles ages and ages ago. I love the Shirelles!
@@DJDiscoCat yeah I could if I wanted and I'm very aware of that. But I'm just not a fan of hers. Some ppl just are not. I prefer faster stuff like Donna Summer. Different strokes for different folks.
Giorgio Moroder, Pete Bellote & Harold Faltermeyer, brilliant!

Dim All the Lights
Donna Summer
Produced by Pete Bellotte & Giorgio Moroder
Album Bad Girls
[Intro]Dim all the lights sweet darling
'Cause tonight it's all the way
Turn up the old victrola
Gonna dance the night away
[Verse-1]Love just don't come easy
No it seldom does
When you find the perfect love
Let it fill you up
[Chorus]Dim all the lights sweet darling
'Cause tonight it's all the way, hey baby
Turn up the old victrola
Gonna dance the night away
Dim all the lights, sweet honey
'Cause tonight it's you and me
No need to worry darlin'
Cause it's for eternity
[Hook]Love don't come easy
This you know I understand
Want to be your woman
If you'll be my man
Let yourself go freely and I'll
Show you things that you've dreamed of
Don't think that you're dreaming
We've found the perfect love
And I'm like a cup come fill me up
[Chorus]
[Bridge]Do what you want
You can use me all up
Take me bottom to top
Don't leave even one drop
[Interlude]No, no, no do it tonight
You know the moment's so right
Turn my brown body white
Come on dim all the lights
[Outro Chorus]Dim all the lights sweet darlin'
'Cause tonight it's all the way, hey baby
Turn up the old victrola
Gonna steal you heart away, hey baby
Dim all the lights sweet darlin'
Dim it, dim it, and dance the night away
Dim all the lights sweet honey
Gonna steal your heart away, keep on dancin'
Dim all the lights the lights sweet darlin', nothing
Nothing, can steal my heart away
😎👍
