  • The Mooring hitch is a simple to tie but very useful knot.
The Mooring hitch is released easily with a pull on the tag end. The hitch doesn't jam but it might release when not under load so it shouldn't be used in critical applications.
The mooring hitch is often used to attach a small boat to a bollard or post but you always need to keep in mind that it is not a very secure knot and that it might work itself loose but as temporary mooring hitch it works fine. You can also use the mooring hitch to hang an object from an horizontal post or beam for example a bucket, as long as continues load is applied the knot will hold fine.

Thanks! Your clear instructions also helped me to finally master the Kalmyk Loop which I had been having a lot of trouble tying.

Thanks a lot! We do our best to make it as clear as possible. There are several knots that can be converted to a quick release knot. Sometimes, I tie the Bowline as a quick release as well.

Great Video! I was trying to figure out what this knot was called when I found your video (yeaaaah!). It looks so much like a Gnat Hitch that is slipped but that is not correct.
The other knots I found that were similar are the Slipped Buntline and the Highpoint (now one of my favorites since it is so secure). I've added your channel to my feed! Keep up the great vids.
