I had the misfortune of renting one of these a couple years ago when my gen coupe got tapped. The thing was basically brand new, 2020 with only 21k miles. Somehow during my 20 mile commute to work, it decided it didn’t want to have oil pressure anymore and the motor shut off completely. This was while traveling 50mph up hill through a construction zone with a semi behind me. It then refused to start and had to be towed away (hopefully to the crusher). The fact that anybody would pay $41k to OWN one of these, or any modern crossover “Jeep” is unfathomable to me, and will never make sense.

I was thinking of buying one of these used when I get my license. Now that I’ve heard about these reliability issues, I’m staying away from this car as much as possible.

To be fair it was a rental so it's likely maintenance wasn't followed properly. Had it had proper maintainence it easily would have lasted at least 30k before catastrophic failure

You can find a new Mercedes Benz GLA or GLB for that price.
Normally I wouldn’t suggest Mercedes because of reliability concerns, but compared to a Stellantis era Jeep product? The Mercedes is more reliable.

I rented one of these for a week last summer for my trip to coastal Maine. I thought it was pretty decent car but the powertrain was a bit jerky. $41k goes a long way at Honda, Toyota, and Subaru though. Resale value on these is terrible too. If you really want a Compass, buy one used from one of the rental car companies.

I rode in a 2021 Compass, and I thought the seats and ride was comfortable. The whole vehicle had a very solid feel to it. Only thing I did not like, was the transmission and how it behaved. I'm glad they changed that in these newer models.

Some people just have to have that Jeep logo. Jeep is a luxury brand now, selling the image of go-anywhere do-anything. The problem is that these are not luxury vehicles and are not compelling if you look at just about any other compact crossover. I like this one's body kit but I would never buy one and especially not at that price. It's an old and somewhat mediocre Fiat platform. Like German cars, lease it and get rid of it before the warranty expires.
