I moved here alone a few yers ago, I really recommend doing that ! I learnt italian quite quick as I had to speak italian and I also went to a italian course. I found a walking group that I joined with only italians. I have also met people as I do hikking. Its easier to meet new people if you have a common interest. I feel like Iam part of the society here in Siracusa !
When I came here over 40 years ago there were no expat groups/social media, believe me it was tough. I really went back in time with the mentality I found, especially coming from a big city ... Luckily I had a good caring and loving boyfriend (the reason I moved here) who is now my hubby. If I hadn't had him I don't think I'd have stayed. Now I have no regrets....❤
@@irenemacginley6022 I came at the same time as you did. Totally alone. But there were plenty of English people in Tuscany. In the same way as you did, I met people as I walked practically. As soon as I heard English, I would say hello and then a conversation started. Those were the friends from home to get together with on a Sunday. The other friends were all Italian. My advantage was that I spoke Italian very well with a degree in the language together with French. The language helps a lot. I just had to get used to the Italian way of life that you do by living here. I had already worked in France and Switzerland and Italy is so similar to France that it was easier as I used what I had learned in France about the way of life……
Hi! I'm Italian and I watch your video to improve my English. It's really fun listening how we are seen through strangers' eyes. Now... I'm really curious to understand WHY people wants to move to Italy!😅 Yes, we have good food, nice weather, lot of beautiful landacapes, many art cities... A great destination for a turist trip but not to live in! Maybe I'm too disapproving about my country but we are totally stressed out: no work-life balance, too high prices as compared to our earnings, a high rate of unemployment, no respect to common good (but we complain about our bad services)... In small countries the situation is a little better but in big cities... 🥴
Ehhh the reality right? Thank you so much for this comment because it’s something that I strive to show on this channel. Italy is beautiful no denying it but if you want to live here, you absolutely need to be prepared for everything you have said and more. I’m so glad that I can help in some way with your English - good for you!
