Awesome video, nothing like a C Class at full noise.
Lots of fond memories around C Class, like the time I used to take my son to watch C Class doing shunting working besides Footscray Rd opposite Costco back 15 odd years ago.
One day on a Saturday whilst watching the C Class do its thing the driver called us both into the cabin & take us for a ride all the way up to the level crossing & back with my 4 year old son in the seat, powering up the mighty C & pulling on the horn. Even now we talk about it. Whoever that driver was thank you so much.
Also may I say " Long live Big George "
C 501 the mighty " George Brown ", had the fortune to fuel him, sand him, & thanks to Big D sit in him & take him from one end of Qube's yard to the other end back in the day's working night shift at Qube.
All time favorite loco " Big George "
Looks tough, looks mean, sounds mean, goes hard, & old skool sounding horns.
Now can you top this video with DL class

DL class is possible just not as long. I used to sit at Ballarat and watch the C Class in my younger days as well.

Not really, I reackon the last of the true looking loco's with full with cab & a nose.
Similar to Sante Fe FP45 back in the 70's.
Now most loco's look & sound like panzies, nothing to get excited about.
What's there to get excited about a NR class etc, even there horns have been LGBT converted.
Tell me besides a C class & DL class & 600 & 45 class without including any bulldog nose loco the rest look shit

@@louiskats5116 , you're claiming the nr class horns have been lgbt converted? lol. and nr's are real trains because the sign painted on some of them says so. we've got to remember the public do like quiet trains. el's and an's do look cheap and nasty. the flat surfaces are easier to build. i like the shape of the wagr l class actually. the best model of loco emd ever made. for example, other models of emd get converted to the sd40. and so why are most of them just sitting around rusting away while all the c's, also sd40's are all flat out working?

At 700 the hobos here in the US would love those hopper cars with the little porch covers at each end.

Nice video. I saw one of the C Class just outside Benalla a couple of weeks ago attached to a ballast train. The C Class itself was in CFCLA livery. These are an impressive locomotive to listen to and watch. Amazing how they are still going to this day.

The C class would have been on a grain train. SSR grain cars looks similar to ballast cars. Thanks for having a look.

Schony747 Thanks for that information about it being a grain train. And no worries.

Yes mate they used to be a regular sight between Melbourne and Sydney. They also spent a bit of time stored at the Junee roundhouse.

That'd be EMD 645 engines I suppose; 16 cylinder? They look rather (apart from the nose) like an SD50.

Very similar. The loco type was actually based on the Western Australian Railways L Class.

I remember the days when Donnybrook was all peaceful countryside. Now it's 3rd world trashy development :( My new homebase now is Beverage :)
