Wow, there's a lot of upset right wingers in the comments (the same people who asked me to talk about this). Wait until the video is released on why the government is using the playbook with the truckers and didn't use it with indigenous people. Short answer: the powers that be view the truckers as irrelevant.
The powers that be are correct. Once you look at the numbers you learn that this is the vocal minority and are even being distanced by the union that represents them, they are exactly that, irrelevant.
I'm a USA trucker since 1984....Those clowns are the minority. They should have been protesting 3 decades ago about being under paid, getting nickel and dimed by corporate america, and being treated like a criminal everywhere, thanks to the republican party.
Something that baffles me in the US is how many tradesmen are conservatives, when if conservatives had their way tradesmen would not remotely have the pay and benefits they enjoy today. Skilled trades are the best option outside college as a career path, and frankly are a better option in many cases and they can thank liberals and unions for that.
@@tsdobbi I was non-union most of my career, but not by choice. During the Reagan years, good Teamster locals were being locked out. By being non-union and having to pay much of my health insurance, my wages were stagnant for decades, and I don't have a pension. I have a friend who I argue with a lot. He's a full blown conservative, who retired with a nice pension thanks to his union as an electrician. These people only care about themselves, "it's hooray for me,and the hell with everyone else" outlook.

Yep, every time I've heard a story about the trucking industry, it is some driver complaining of working conditions and pay systems. I can see they're being cheated seven ways to Sunday. They need a union. And I do not support this idiotic convoy.
Vancouver BC here, we had another support rally from Langley to Vancouver Saturday and glad to see anti convoy demonstrators laid down in front of the convoy! Loved it! I wish I was there, I was busy driving home from hockey giving the finger to all the protesters on the overpass on the highway. It’s childish but so is pouting about not getting your way. FYI, 90% of Canadian truckers are vaxed and 50% of BC truckers are South Asian, don’t see any of those in the convoy. They’re busy working. Take that Ted Cruz.
Ted was born in Alberta (yes I fact checked this). On behalf of Canada, I apologize for him being in the USA. Justin Bieber as well. Hopefully Ted will fly further south this winter and give us all a break.
Yeah we had some ass holes protesting in Windsor over the weekend...whining about losing their jobs due to their employer mandates! What a crock of crap...mandates would not be needed if everyone would just get the vaccine and move on! Good luck in BC! Mike 🇨🇦 🍁 👍

As a Canadian am so disappointed and ashamed. It’s an occupation not a protest. Check out the organizers, I was shocked to see who they are and their backgrounds, specialized, sophisticated, planned and adaptive. This is not going to end peacefully.
For myself, born in the US but raised in Canada, "it's kind of boring" is exactly how I like my Canadian politics. This whole 'freedom convoy' has no ideology, no discernible primary message, and has devolved into nothing but grievance and hate. The layers of authoritarian siege raised it's head, but fizzled as the government let it play out. Emotional IQ really plays a significant role during a crisis, and watching family members & good friends lose their friggin' minds to stupid memes and quack doctors is frustrating and sad. Believe me, everyone I know has atleast one friend/family member(s) who agrees with this convoy (or did, opinions have changed). Yet, I have no illusions, that the right-wing extremist messaging has found its mark in many areas of Canada. Frustration boiling up over the last number of months, and with all the sabre-rattlin' anti-mandates/masks/vax freedom faction, many are attracted to the sense of community the whole thing naturally engenders. You know, like any gang, or cult, there are attractive benefits for those with a low emotional IQ. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
BRAVO .. BRAVO BRAVO ..... IT IS ALL HATE ... HATE ... HATE ..HATE WE IN CANADA HATE 'MURAKUNN S GUTS .. JUST AS THE REST OF THE WORLD DOES ... YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY CHINA !!!!!!!!!!
Not sure what Ed Driver's deal is ⬆️ but you have pretty much summed up my thoughts on this. I had not really thought much about or focused on emotional IQ. However, I think you're on to something there. The pandemic has really exposed individuals' flaws in this area. Could some of it be related to mental health? Most definitely! However, I feel like a lot of it is this complete inability of many to see 'outside the box' and look at the big picture with all of this. Instead, they look for easy to swallow explanations as to why X and Y are happening, and even easier "solutions" to them. A lack of empathy and a complete lack of critical thinking skills also play their own roles. Humans are a complicated bunch 😂
I too would also say that "Emotional IQ" plays a significant part, although I might not necessarily call it that specifically and would probably just say "maturity" rather than "IQ". These folks are supported, encouraged, and driven by, their Geopolitical & Religious Ideologies... with the Religious Ideology of their side being the more prominent factor, imo. I don't say this to be Anti-Religious or anything (although I Kinda Am, ideologically anyway), I'm just stating [what I see as obvious] to help make this coming point: It's my hypothesis that most of them are "Emotionally Immature", or otherwise have difficulty understanding & controlling their Emotions, specifically because of their ideologies. Abrahamic Monotheism, & Christianity in particular, is fairly good at getting people to *Apply & Overuse* their Emotions, for a number of reasons including the ideology's reliance upon Emotional-Reasoning as a form of "Evidence" for [Their] Supernatural Things & the fact that Emotions are A Big Part of their Shared Sense of Community & Spirituality. Our own emotions can be quite very addicting, even to a negative & detrimental extreme that many people aren't fully aware of, and Over-Reliance on Emotions (even Specific "Positive" Varieties) not only results in a Vicious-Cycle where the individual *Needs* to Keep Experiencing Those Emotions in greater amounts & frequencies to get the same effects (like Any Other Chemical-Addiction), but also results in the individual gradually becoming less and less capable of [again] adequately identifying, understanding, and controlling them properly. Studies have even shown that "Venting" via Wanton-Destruction of Something does almost nothing but provide a *Very-Temporary Sense of Satisfaction* , no real tempering on the emotion(s) themselves and no positive impact on future choices either for that matter, and quite possibly may result in Even Less Control in the Future and thus potentially Poorer Choices. To be sure, most Emotions Cannot Easily Be Fully Controlled or Completely Stifled (for most people), and Stifling Them All Completely wouldn't really be the best thing either, but adequate-enough understanding and control of them can still be worked at, & eventually achieved, IF we're taught correctly and IF we're patient enough. And Emotions definitely need to be tempered with Reason & Logic regardless, as they are most certainly [often] a powerful blinder against critical-and-calculated thought.
A lot of the far-right party's supporters here pretty much just take what Trump says and put a maple leaf over his name, so yeah, no surprises about that 🙄
The hilarious thing was some Trolls on CB convinced the protesters that they could get free food if they went down to the Ram Ranch causing a whole bunch of the protesters to ask locals how to get there. And when the guy on the horse showed up some of the counter protesters followed him around playing that song.
Thank you sir. I am Canadian. These protesters have no idea what tyranny really is. Entitled is an understatement. Canada is about as free as it gets and I for one am so great full to live here. Love your channel!🇨🇦

“A bunch of Trump supporters being upset about border regulations being too tight… that’s not something I saw coming.” Lolllll this is perfect Edit: spelling, rookie mistake
Their racist mask keeps slipping. It's never been about border security. When it's not about brown people entering the country they could care less about security. Smh
yeah their message has been heard and their illegal protest only showed republican money financing discord in other country (btw i find usa right wing toxic politics finding ways in my country disgusting) as a trucker i am ashamed by those people, they are reinforcing the stereotype of trukers all being idiots
Trsut me, vast majority of Canadians know that most truckers don't support this. Even looking at the images we can see barely any actual trucks and it's mostly suv's and cars tagging along. As a fellow Canadian, I think I speak for the silent majority that truckers are one of the most essential backbones of our economy.
As someone living in Ottawa and just having spent hours listening to the City Council and Police make excuses and blaming their lack of resources for their inaction, I have to say there are many measures they could have been taken much earlier to address this peacefully. The occupation (it's not a protest) spread to Québec city over the weekend where we saw measures such as ticketing that had a huge impact and would have an impact, but haven't been used much here. They only started ticketing here over the last few days. How did they do this peacefully? They are sending tickets to the vehicle owner's home address. All you need to back that up is a picture of the vehicle where it's illegally parked - no need to put an officer at risk. When our officials were asked why they hadn't done the same, they gave a lame excuse that they don't know who the driver is that brought the truck. They should know as I do that parking tickets are issued to the vehicle owner regardless of the situation. Moving violations are a different matter. I think part of the problem is that the local police is not willing to take measures that might put them at risk and instead are letting the residents of Ottawa suffer the consequences. This is possibly partly due to a fear that this would turn into a repeat of Jan 6 in Washington. The situation is getting real bad. There are examples of people not being able to get their chemotherapy meds. I have a friend who just got diagnosed with cancer and hasn't been able to sleep for over a week because of the noise. Women, people of colour, LGBTQ members or anyone with a mask gets harassed to the point where many residents are afraid to go out. The largest shopping mall in Ottawa is closed putting 1,500 of the people they pretend to represent out of work. Businesses displaying the gay pride flag are having their windows broken. It's anarchy and it's got to stop.
A friend who actually drives trucks for a living, hauling fuel to gas stations and truck stops, saw a quote that tickled my funny bone. Apparently some of those protesters kettled themselves, and were running out of fuel: "It's a time-honored tradition for Nazis to be defeated by a harsh winter and a lack of fuel."
A couple of points that seem to be missed by everyone: These are people driving trucks, they are not truck drivers (and they represent a tiny minority of Canadians). As all of this has unfolded, the real truck drivers have been doing their jobs and are out in there trucks delivering and picking up stuff. There have been NO shortages of goods or materials during this "event". The Canadian Trucking Alliance has issued a statement saying "a great number" of the participants in these protests are not associated with the Canadian Trucking Alliance and the Canadian Trucking Alliance does not agree with or support the protests.
Kent McKean - Yes - agree. Also, I understand that our Canadian Truckers are almost 90% vaccinated. So I'm really not understanding what the problem or the protest is for?
I expect any supply issues in stores are more likely related to traffic blockades and the "protestors" preventing real truck drivers from doing their jobs. I am in Manitoba and there are no supply issues.
Ottawa resident here, and I can say that you've basically hit the nail on the head, Beau. Law Enforcement have already been taking steps to control the flow of supplies into the protest sites, and they've been intensifying investigations into violent incidents for a couple of days now. Beyond that, the protestors seem to be their own worst enemy, taking every chance they can get to speak their mind to the press and reveal just how divorced they've become from reality. Speaking personally, at the beginning of all this I was definitely hoping for a bit of schadenfreude in seeing the anti-vaxers taken down a peg. Now, though, I'm mostly just scared. On the night of the fifth, a couple of people who were at least Convoy-Adjacent set a fire on the ground floor of a large apartment building, one that could have consumed the whole building if a passer-by hadn't noticed it in time. In case there's any doubt as to their motives, I should note that they *taped the lobby doors shut* from the outside to stop people from escaping. The whole thing was caught on camera, fortunately, and since the individuals involved seemed to have some kind of ideological objection to wearing masks it's very likely that they're be brought to justice. Still, I can't help but feel that it's only a matter of time before something like this happens again, and there's no guarantee we'll be so lucky the next time. I hope the government continues to handle things well and follow the advice of actual experts, but I also hope they do it fast. It's better for the truckers to look ridiculous than sympathetic, but ridiculous doesn't mean harmless.
Am from Alberta and am furious with the truckers. It was not a peaceful protest, it was loud and abrasive. Their reasoning was so out of touch with reality, it was surreal. COVID-19 is real, and it’s not going to magically disappear. To me these protesters or non vaxxers are childish and selfish. But, am afraid of them, they are bullies and radicalized.
I'm glad you specified that they were at least Convoy-Adjacent because I remember during the BLM protests how frustrated I was that people were taking agitators like Umbrella man as representative of the movement when they were just trying to provoke a riot. To clarify, I absolutely detest these people but until it's proven that they tried to start the fire I'd be hesitant to actually call this incident representative of it.
The fact that they were assaulting workers at a soup kitchen because local restaurants wouldn't serve them was plenty disgusting as well. I've read that Ottawa has set up a hate-crime hotline for reporting these scumbags, and they're being flooded with calls. Considering that we've got some pretty strong hate crime legislation up here, I'm hoping that lots of their asses are going to end up nailed to the wall hard. In general, we're not fond of fascists in Canada.
I live in Ottawa, and thank you for this video. For the first time in my life I am embarrassed by being Canadian and the mis-use of our flag these past 11 days. Any support, moral or otherwise, from our American friends is most welcomed.
As often, Beau offers a rational, calm, voice of reason that balances the many hyper-dramatic media voices. I've come to rely on him to help me avoid knee-jerk reactions to issues.
@@MrWillcapone - I believe it's specifically about how GoFundMe was going to refund the money; rather than give it back to the people who donated it, they were going to give it to a list of "approved charities". Apparently, that kind of financial slight-of-hand isn't legal in Texas (or a few other places): if you're going to refund something, you have to give it back to the people, rather than re-route it to someplace else.

Then again, you conservatives in the US don't even want to stop school shootings, so maybe you people don't even care about anyone else at all?
Hey from Ottawa Beau, From my locally biased perspective, your big picture assessment is pretty spot on! If you're curious, they started ramping up the arrests you mentioned Monday at 12 am our time, so seems like they're following the playbook your alluded to in your video. Maybe they're slightly ahead of schedule? All that said, it's not a fun experience for us here at all! We see a LOT of protests "here on the hill", it is just about a right of passage in Ottawa to sit on the government front lawn and make a fuss. This protest is different. The convoy use of air horns and fireworks at late hours (in some instances literally being set off level with midfloor balconies) are new. So are the threats of violence if police try to intervein. Since there are nearly no government workers currently downtown (aside from police/security), it feels more like an assault on the people of the city than any protest. I have friends in the core who haven't slept properly in days. For such a small number of protesters, they sure are conveying a lot of hostility. Even knowing the likely negative effects of increased law enforcement efforts (as you mentioned), tired and frustrated people are putting on lots of pressure on the police to do more. My hope is that the raids cutting off the convoy's fuel supplies will force the convoy out soon, and it will become a non issue. I do think any attempt to park trucks in the downtown core of the city is going to be met with a lot more resistance if someone tries this again. Other Canadian cities took note, and headed them off before it became an issue. On the bright side, a local judge just signed an injunction forbidding the use of airhorns by said protesters, so maybe that will stick and we can get some rest!
There are days when the tone of the news can bring a person down. And then there is you, Beau, making me smile, laugh and realize that the end is not nigh.
The police are rounding up propane and fuel for the trucks. People trying to deliver these supplies are being stopped and if they object are being arrested. Real truckers are out on the road keeping the supply chain rolling. None of the big trucking companies are represented here. The police are keeping things low key because they want the protesters to wear themselves out, much like a toddler having a tantrum. The mandates are enacted by the provinces. Ottawa is federal. Trudeau was voted back into office last fall. If these Conservatives had popular policies they would be in the majority. 90% of truckers are vaccinated and 80% of the population here is vaccinated. I figure the whole thing is a money raiser for the organizers. The protesters will figure out that they were used after it ends. I find it amusing that they display the flags of losers…Trump,Nazis and the Confederacy. Some never learn.🤷♀️
Good point about the loser flags. Isn’t the popular definition “Doing the same thing repeatedly, but expecting different results.” White supremacists were never accused of being sane, so it fits.
I am at work in Oregon as is my wife in her own truck . We had plenty of fore warning the mandate was coming from the US and it was matched by the Canadians, essentially working in concert No surprise at all We support the mandate as the vaccination is for our safety while traveling and everyone else's safety when we come home.
Canadian here. Provinces have jurisdiction over almost all the actual vaccine mandates affecting every day Canadians. Federal government mandantes federal workers and borders. That’s it.
So, let me get this straight. Canadian truckers go to Ottawa so that they can travel to the States without being vaccinated. Sorry Karens, you aren’t talking to the right manager. That rule is made in America, and rightfully so.
Canadian here, posting from just outside Ottawa. Great take Beau, and I must admit, as one of the people that wished riot police and tear gas had been deployed by now, you've made me glad I was wrong to want that. To any Americans, particularly conservative Americans, who might be reading this....please know these truckers and their supporters ARE a fringe minority here, albeit a disappointingly very vocal one. Most Canadians by a wide margin DO NOT AGREE with them and wish they would pack up and go home. We view them as an embarrassment.
The truckers also went to a city and a province that heavily voted for the Liberal party for the last 2 elections. I see this causing the opposite effect they want in the next election, even though I think Steven Harper would have had the same mandates.
Yeah watching lives on TikTok of the "Freedom Rally", I swear it is like 50 people figeting around looking stupid. Let them lose steam and wear themselves out like toddlers. Nap Time lil'bigots. Don't hurt yourselves. But taking food from the unhoused does piss me off.
The videos are misleading there is no real organization like in most protests so it is hard to judge how many protesters there actually are. They are mostly in groups of 5-10 wondering the streets but the groups are spread out over most of the downtown core and add up to probably around 5000. The interesting thing is that the counter protest over the weekend drew around 2000 people and because they were all in front of city hall together it looked like they outnumbered the protesters massively.
@@yt.personal.identification Yep , there is actually a book on the proper way to deal with and break down protests. So far , those in charge have been very wise in staying away from violence , arrests and such. The next phase is now being implemented. I live in Ottawa and that’s exactly what they’re doing. Cutting off supply lines and fuel and foreign money from the US. It’s very frustrating to be on the ground right now but it’s comforting to know that actually have a plan. Because right now it feels like we’re being forgotten about.
I can imagine with the noise / chaos a lot of innocent civilians in impacted cities are feeling antagonized by these protestors and are being psychologically impacted as well. I hope the police and authorities fine, ticket and arrest those who are breaking the law. Protesting is one thing, blocking roads and causing certain levels of noise is beyond mere protesting. I bet a lot of these protestors were also angry at those who were stopping trains from getting anywhere which I believe was regarding one of the pipelines and aboriginal land. Ironic.

"Its kind of boring," is one of the greatest complements you can Canadian officials on how they are handling this. I wish the low drama approach were more prevalent in the US.
Mind you, it might seem "boring" from another country, but its definitely a very real point of contention in Canada right now. People are focusing on Ottawa because its the nation's capital, but the lesser known stand-off at Coutts is just as dangerous and has emboldened further rallies across major cities here. I agree that immediate law and order wasn't the play necessarily, but this whole convoy nonsense is a small amount of truckers surrounded by a legion of far-right figures that are looking to keep the ball rolling and draw more attention to their cause. It doesn't help that major US figures have been weighing in on the issue and those that have are largely in favor of the truckers (Ted Cruz, Jack Posobiec, etc).

and that's the part so many people miss. I didn't follow mandates to prevent myself from catching Covid, I did it to prevent myself from being responsible for passing it on to somebody else. Worst case scenario for me in catching it is I survive and have to keep going to work. But to not wear my mask and take the vaccine is basically the same as driving drunk.
I like the Quebec city approach, giving parking tickets to the ones illegally parked or for other traffic infractions... Since the fines can be substantial after a few times... It seems to work, the organisers moved on, stating that they were giving the government a break to reconsider. That would fall under "Failing to obey orders of a flagperson, peace officer or school crossing guard" which is a fine of $200 to $400.
Ottawa's police refuse to ticket the out of town licence plates but they are being quite strict at enforcing parking restrictions on local residents who are stuck with inadequate parking options because of this mess. The city population is getting really peeved at the cops since they seem to be doing a lot more to protect the people bringing chaos to the city rather than the city's residents.
@@rebeccaainslie4637 I live in North Carolina and got a paperwork ticket in a truck in Ontario about fifteen years ago. I forgot about it when I got home, and it took them six months to start sending me notices. I let it slide for a while because I had no plans to drive back to Canada and it was fun joking about being an international fugitive from justice. Then I sent them a check and they, politely, simply stopped sending me letters. Thing is that a lot of these truckers are American and if they don't pay their tickets they won't be allowed to haul cargo into Canada later, vaccination or not.
@@rebeccaainslie4637 Collecting the fines isn't the point. At least not directly. A traffic infraction (typically) doesn't go on any sort of permanent record (except maybe your insurance premiums, depending on the type of infraction). However, failing to pay your fines will cause you trouble in the future. For example, you won't be able to renew your drivers license next time it expires. There's probably other government services that will be denied you as well if you refuse to pay your traffic fines. And if you really push your luck, failure to pay (or failure to appear in court) can become a criminal offense in its own right (including potential jail time) in some jurisdictions, which would get added to your permanent record. And of course if you come from out of country, none of that will hurt you. But you won't be allowed back into the country until you clear up your fines. You could potentially face arrest, jail time, court hearings and eventual deportation if your failure to comply has been promoted to the level of criminality in jurisdictions where that may apply. Basically, the fine itself is the least of your concerns. Pushing your luck is rarely a good idea unless you know _exactly_ what you are doing and what you can get away with - not just "some guy on RUclips said ..." but to the level of actually having studied the law and knowing every loophole, caveat and backdoor inside and out. And even then pushing your luck is risky as there will always come a point where your outcome depends at least in part on the mood of some police officer or judge when you happen to be interacting with them.

They lost the fall election and they are doing it again. It was facilitated from inception by Premiere Kenney of Alberta and Pierre Poilievre. It was timed for the Conservative Party leadership review and was successful at ousting the leader who lost in the fall (O'Toole) and aiming a political weapon at the Liberal Government, particularly Justin Trudeau. (Western Conservatives have been indoctrinated to hate all things Trudeau since birth or mid '70s). Poilievre had all his ducks in a row and announced he was running to be the next Prime Minister. ( not just running for the leadership of the Conservative Party as would normally happen). My RUclips feed highlighted his announcement and I watched it within 1/2 hour of posting and there were 3500 comments already. This does not happen organically. They were all glowing recommendations with the usual attacks on Trudeau mixed in. Some were clearly bots. Poilievre is Canada's Ted Cruz. Smart, devious, disingenuous and hated by even his colleagues. In short, the truckers are being used like the farmers were for a political power play.
They are - unfortunately a “Christian” fundraising site is bringing in a ton of money. However, the organizers, who’ve been trying to get truckers to convoy to Ottawa for something, anything, for about a year now, but have nothing to do with working people getting better incomes or work environments, will probably siphon most of it off to their white supremacist and anti-democracy organizations.
lol, yup by comparison we ARE kinda boring. Classic case of that Robin Williams joke. Canada is a really nice apartment over a meth lab. cool to hear that our feds are actually taking the smart approach by your standards. Makes me feel a bit more at ease about the whole thing.
Would you rather be sane and boring, or would you rather be us? Why I didn't move to Canada in my 20's is still a mystery to me. America...but mostly AmeriCANS have been deteriorating since I was a teenager in the 70's. This place is t***p's REAL "sh!thole country". It's great if you're rich, because if you're rich the law doesn't apply to you. The workers who create that wealth..not so much.
@@mossydog6968 Most of us will gladly welcome sane and decent Americans stuck in that sh!thole country. In fact I helped my BFF immigrate up here over a decade ago, so she could transition in a place where she felt safe and had friends.
Canadian here. It's a small loud minority of people. And yes, we're all tired to the pandemic, but these people are the very reason it is dragging on. And they are the very ones who clog down our emergencies. BTW, 80% of our truckers are vaxxed. None of the big trucking companies support this movement. The mandates are in place because the ICUs are buckling all over the country. None of the shenanigans these people are doing are going to help. All they do is annoy the rest of us, who are equally tired of this.
One thing that is really weird about about this is the large number of Confederate flags at the protest. What is that all about? Are they trying to secede from a country they are not citizens of? It's just a thought, y'all have a good day.
My first thought when I saw that first flag was, "Seriously??" Did they really think most Canadians wouldn't notice Confederate flags at a Canadian protest?
As a Canadian, there are parts people don't talk enough. The Governors of Florida and Texas are talking about how patriotic it was for the alt-right to fund domestic terrorism in our country. These truckers have harassed, attacked, attempted arson, and more. This isn't a minor issue to be ignored.
A lot of money going to this movement is indeed coming from right wing USA backers. This is almost like how the USA right wing were verbally attacking Australia for their response to the pandemic - demanding that the citizens stand up for freedom. Major difference is that Canada is right next to the USA so the negative impact the states has on Canada is greater. We already had nurses protesting and blocking ambulances from getting to hospitals or harassing schools. Canada also does have a minority right wing extremist side with certain news outlets that are pretty much carbon copies of Fox News. This whole "Freedumb Convoy" thing has also been heavily coopted by anti vaxers, anti maskers, racists and outright anarchists.
This all "astro turf" the movement is the same Trumpism that invests the USA. A small minority of radicals co-opting a legitimate group with a grievance. The government has spoken to actual truckers these ass clowns are exactly that ...ass clowns.
"We're going to stay here until the government meets our demands." Not quite. You're going to stay there until the courts decide how much you owe the city and the businesses you shut down.
Thanks for addressing our problem beau, it’s a big deal to us and I am appalled by my fellow Canadians behaviour. It’s ridiculous. They don’t even know what they are protesting anymore
mostly, now, they are protesting that GoFundMe cancelled their account. Putting the blame on GoFundMe rather than themselves. The organizers are the ones who did not follow the terms of service.
Their initial cause (truckers' rights) is being diluted by radicals--MAGA anarchists from the U.S., some of whom are promoting Neo-Nazi and Neo-Confederate agendas.
There's not been a coherent message, with no visible spokespeople. Who do they negotiate with? I like your take Beau. Let 'em run outta steam; so long as they don't break stuff or hassle folks, let 'em show us all the privilege they enjoy.
They couldn’t put a face on the movement because most of the organizers were only zero or 1 degree separation from white supremacist groups and image is everything
I would call desecrating the war memorial, dancing on top of the tomb of the unknown soldier, shaking down a homeless shelter's soup kitchen, intentionally blocking emergency vehicles, harassing and threatening anyone they see wearing a mask, and blaring truck horns at all hours day and night 'hassling' folks. Wouldn’t you?
@@bhronnyhill9354 Yup. And the authorities are dealing with those individuals as they should. They're literally the nuisance fringe; they're at every gathering like this, regardless of who is holding it.
You’re exactly right. The Go Fund me Page has been frozen and taken down. The money is to be refunded after investigations are finished. Confederate Flags are visible as well as US flags. The have agreed to stop honking their horns, gas supply is being limited as well. NDP leader Mr. Singh has always made a statement today. Here in Canada, the truckers behaviour is seen as very Uncanadian.

I thought this exact thing about the protests in my Pacific Northwest! I am a progressive trade union activist and senior citizen whose sympathy meter pegged out at 11 after watching the overreaction by the feds and police when responding to the BLM and ANTIFA protesters. Use of excessive force by government is a really ugly look for the leadership of said government.
And here in the PNW we saw all about what the BLM protesters were supposedly doing but the news wasn't reporting what the feds and police were doing to the peaceful protesters. I was able to see footage of what was actually happening real time with those protests. I also had access to photographs of what the feds and police had done to some of the peaceful protesters (such as to the "Wall of Grandmas".) It was definitely ugly. (And when I posted those pics, they were taken down as "too violent." But they allowed the feds and police to look good by doing so.)
Exactly... But unbeknownst to these children, they just added leverage to REAL protests for REAL change... The next time First Nations speak, the powers will have no choice but to listen.

Great take on the situation as usual Beau. I think one of the reasons this story is getting so much airtime is that we have become desensitized to right wing propaganda in the US but are shocked to see it in Canada.

I guess it's just good buzz words to use and push whatever narrative it is they have, which I still don't really know what that is. Maybe they just don't want any govt or laws or anything and want to live in chaos I guess! 🙄🙄
@@julesb1970 that's exactly what they want. The international right wing has been grinding world governments to a halt for 40 years, so they can say "LOOK!! government doesn't work, PRIVATIZE!!!" Which is just a way to hand over trillions in tax dollars to greedy billionaires so they can get even richer. The idea is that private industry is more "efficient" than government. People seem to have forgotten that if they don't like how programs are run, or their dollars are being spent, we can vote politicians out of office, but if it's a private business someone owns it and we have no say in what the programs contain or how our dollars are spent. We will literally give up the freedom of choice that right wingers keep banging on about by doing what the right wing says they want.
I'm glad to hear Beau's perspective on this as it offers an explanation for the perceived lack of intervention on the part of the authorities. But people are suffering and this requires consequences for what has been done to them. What I want to know is who is bankrolling this blockade, and no, I don't mean the GoFundMe stuff, that's peanuts. I don't believe for one minute that this blockade is a grass-roots thing. This is a considerable amount of heavy and expensive vehicles, which requires coordination and considerable amounts of fuel and other supplies. These vehicles are missing from whichever task they would normally be fulfilling, as are the drivers. Ordinary truck drivers, "worried for their ability to continue working" don't have the means to take part in a blockade like this. The Canadian authorities need to follow the money and the people of Ottawa should be allowed to bring a class action lawsuit for whatever monetary or other damages they incur due to the blockade.
We ALL know by now that the disappearing White supremacists are causing most of the violence and trouble, and the funds .... They just don't want to lose the power and privilege they're enjoyed for centuries and will use just about any wicket means to retain their imagined supremacy ...
Who was engaged in vandalism? The blue-hair and half-mask that tried to start a fire in the hotel? I saw nothing of the sort when I was there. The only property damage I've seen was in videos of police.
As someone living in Ottawa, the divide between pro and con is huge. I'm in Calgary, and when I turned on the radio this morning, the morning rush-hour traffic-report was saying that the main north-south corridor was being clogged by a 'slow-moving convoy' in support of this truckers' movement. My immediate thought was, "I don't think that slowing down rush-hour traffic on a Monday morning is a good way to win working-people to your cause .... And, tbh, it does seem to have been quite peaceful, considering - notwithstanding that it's a major public nuisance.

Plenty of Americans involved in the organization and implementation of this so-called "demonstration". If Canadians were involved in similar actions in the US, Americans would right be pissed and would tell them off. As a Canadian, I'm wishing the Americans involved would concentrate on their own side of the border. These truckers are also being referred to as MUACS - "Morons United Against Common Sense". They are a very small minority of Canadians that have fallen into the trap of people who found a way to make a lot of money sewing division and unrest. Freedumb, indeed.
As a Canadian who enjoys hearing your perspective on US and foreign matters, I appreciate your insights to our situation up here and you made a number of excellent points.
I support all workers who have kept the stores open and the economy going everywhere, as well as hospital workers and doctors. Vaccine mandates are getting tiresome now, but it mitigates people from getting sick and dying. I'm up for that. Only 10% of the truckers are unvaccinated in Canada. Most truckers I know are embarrassed by all this. This fiasco is not proportionally representative of all truckers, and I don't agree that they are representing the majority of Canadians. Most of the demonstrators are not even truckers, just pissed off people who want to let off steam and cause trouble. Get on the evening news. I also want to point out the organizers of this rally have a political agenda. They are also part of a separatist organization to lead the Western Provinces out of Canada. Things that make you go: Really? Hmmm... Secondly, the Provinces have jurisdiction over vaccine mandates, not the Federal government. Just saying... Third, Canada and U.S.A. have similar vaccine mandates for truckers crossing the borders. Other than being pissed off, I'm not sure what their point is.

I think you are correct for the most part, but the Ottawa police could have been a bit more proactive and blocked most of the trucks from entering the city core, as Toronto (my city) did, in the subsequent days. Also, Canadian police seem to have no issue beating and pepper spraying indigenous and black protesters. And you are correct about the later Ottawa police action, they have already started to arrest those bringing diesel and other supplies to the protest.
No...no...no. The police have not treated any people differently based on colour, sexuality (since the 70's), religion or creed...only on actions. We've had many protests by the misnomered indigenous people here without incidence. Only when people turned violent were they reciprocated in kind. As for black protestors, well..., there's never really been anything to protest here, at least not east of the prairies anyways.
Thank you. FYI most Canadians don’t support these yahoos and are right po’d with the American truckers who are there. Just imagine if we came down to your country and pulled this kind of stunt. Lol, can you imagine the reaction of your everyday American citizen.
“The Government of Canada and the United States have now made being vaccinated a requirement to cross the border. This regulation is not changing so, as an industry, we must adapt and comply with this mandate,” said CTA president Stephen Laskowski. “The only way to cross the border, in a commercial truck or any other vehicle, is to get vaccinated.”

Sorry that you've had to deal with this drama in your neighborhood. Sleepless nights suck, I can't even imagine with the trucks idling and horns blowing all day/night.
As a Canadian (not in Ottawa) I appreciate your sober perspective. The truckers are making their point but it's not supported by the majority of Canadian citizens; importantly 90% of truckers on this side of the border are vaccinated and therein lies their 'FREEDOM' to do as they please going about their business. American truckers are also not able to cross back into the US unhindered if they are not also vaccinated!

Not sure l agree here Beau. You're right about the tactics up to a point. But this is a case of foreign lawbreakers disrupting a national capital. If Canada decides to arrest and deport every one of the American truckers, that's their sovereign right and it would be fine by me. Just my opinion.
Hey Beau as someone in Canada eho's been watching this I feel like I should mention a different take that I've seen The thing I'm hearing now, frome those who support the protests, is how the rally isn't about the truckers anymore, and that's a point I agree with but not for the reasons the protesters give (freedom). What I'm seeing is people with concerning viewpoints (neonazis being one of the forefront groups) using the protests and related issues as a springboard to grab the attention of those who might have some similar viewpoints, or those who are frustrated over the past few years and use start pulling them towards into their political and ideological camp. So I see the protests as about being an attempt to create a "far right" movement and attempt to bring the Canadian people, and politics more in line with what we've been seeing coming from the USA. Just my 2 cents but is love to hear some thoughts on how to respond to this.
Not wrong. How to respond? #NeverVoteConservative ... or PPC which are even worse. The last Federal election was only a few months ago, and it's a minority (which usually means it won't go full term), but it will surely go past the Conservative party's selection of a new leader. Hopefully people will still remember. Vote for whoever in your local area is the most likely to send CPC or PPC packing. It is distinctly possible that this trucker rally will end up being an own-goal against the CPC.
I live an hour upriver from Ottawa. I know a few of the truckers and followers, and I know people in Ottawa. My sympathies are with the people of Ottawa, who have no more say about regulations than anyone else. Police have confiscated a stash of fuel, which was in a residential area, where such load of flammables are not allowed. Trucks are parked blocking residential streets and entry to hospitals is awkward. Truck airhorns are blaring non-stop, day and night. I hope you are right about it fizzling soon; it's too close to home.
85% of truckers are already vaccinated….it’s just a fringe of the anti-science folks and a bunch of US activists joining a few Canadians. You’re assessment is perfect
The Trucker Convoy that setup in Regina, Saskatchewan... They are protesting outside of the legislative building. The legislative building, however, was not set to reconvene until March. The truckers are still making a scene, but their timing is hilariously braindead. At best they're... preventing wedding parties from taking wedding photos there? The mandates here have already been set to end worryingly soon, so protesters were already getting what they wanted before they even began. It's just a bunch of idiots in the park, literally obstructing everyone else's freedom, so they can honk about their own entitlement.
Wow, there's a lot of upset right wingers in the comments (the same people who asked me to talk about this).

These folks are supported, encouraged, and driven by, their Geopolitical & Religious Ideologies... with the Religious Ideology of their side being the more prominent factor, imo.
I don't say this to be Anti-Religious or anything (although I Kinda Am, ideologically anyway), I'm just stating [what I see as obvious] to help make this coming point:
It's my hypothesis that most of them are "Emotionally Immature", or otherwise have difficulty understanding & controlling their Emotions, specifically because of their ideologies.

❤️ and support from 🇬🇧
Trsut me, vast majority of Canadians know that most truckers don't support this.
Apparently some of those protesters kettled themselves, and were running out of fuel:
"It's a time-honored tradition for Nazis to be defeated by a harsh winter and a lack of fuel."
Love the quote.
So true, perfect.
Don't invade Ottawa during winter.
Great quote. Same is happening in Brexit UK.
To say nothing of poor planning and a fabulist's understanding of history.
@@amremorse I'm just outside of Toronto.
No shortages here.
Kent McKean - Yes - agree. Also, I understand that our Canadian Truckers are almost 90% vaccinated. So I'm really not understanding what the problem or the protest is for?
I agree. Any shortages on the shelves are minor and not to catastrophic levels the occupiers in Ottawa would suggest. I'm on Vancouver Island.
I expect any supply issues in stores are more likely related to traffic blockades and the "protestors" preventing real truck drivers from doing their jobs. I am in Manitoba and there are no supply issues.
@@amremorse that's true.
It's better for the truckers to look ridiculous than sympathetic, but ridiculous doesn't mean harmless.
damn. scary, dark.
Wishing you well over there.
Unbelievable. I do hope you all can stay safe through this.

@@MrWillcapone - I believe it's specifically about how GoFundMe was going to refund the money; rather than give it back to the people who donated it, they were going to give it to a list of "approved charities". Hey from Ottawa Beau,
From my locally biased perspective, your big picture assessment is pretty spot on!
@George Allen perfectly said, and I feel the same.

And thank you for the reason check!
Well the end might be nigh but that doesn't mean we give up either.
Ditto this!
They are not effectively rounding up fuel etc. Unfortunately.
I am at work in Oregon as is my wife in her own truck . We had plenty of fore warning the mandate was coming from the US and it was matched by the Canadians, essentially working in concert
No surprise at all
We support the mandate as the vaccination is for our safety while traveling and everyone else's safety when we come home.

Well put so true haha and Canadian society votes haha ....no clue
Nope, anything to do with the International border is federal.
These are the same people that are crying about unvaccinated people crossing OUR southern border.
So, let me get this straight. Canadian truckers go to Ottawa so that they can travel to the States without being vaccinated. Sorry Karens, you aren’t talking to the right manager. That rule is made in America, and rightfully so.
I was going to mention this exact thing; most of the "Mandates" they want done? It's PROVINCIAL control, not Federal.

"Don't hurt yourselves"
Woah, woah. Lets not get ahead of ourselves
It would depend on what area or city they are protesting in re crowd size. Ottawa had a whole lot more than 50 people.
Well over a week and they won't lose steam on their own.

Beau, It's not a Freedom Convoy, that's the PR title applied to it.
It's a Conservative convoy. They did it before in 2016 with farmers after the Conservatives lost the election.
They should have been issuing nice fat parking tickets. If they dont pay the fine, don't renew their licenses.
Agreed - but they did raise 10 million dollars.

Canadian here. It's a small loud minority of people. And yes, we're all tired to the pandemic, but these people are the very reason it is dragging on.

@@HamishDuh2nd you're right... America was first..........

Good points Beau.

@@julesb1970 that's exactly what they want. The international right wing has been grinding world governments to a halt for 40 years, so they can say "LOOK!! government doesn't work, PRIVATIZE!!!"

As a Canadian here, thanks Beau, you are all ways right on.
Hey Beau as someone in Canada eho's been watching this I feel like I should mention a different take that I've seen
The thing I'm hearing now, frome those who support the protests, is how the rally isn't about the truckers anymore, and that's a point I agree with but not for the reasons the protesters give (freedom).
As an American who has lived in Canada, this is my view too.
You’re not wrong in your thinking!
Totally agree.
the worst thing is that the truckers are upset about the vac to get into Canada forget that they need it to get into the US.
