An Alternate Investment Fund (AIF) is a type of investment vehicle that pools money from various investors to invest in different types of assets that are not the traditional stock market securities or bonds. Here's a quick breakdown: Key Features of AIFs: Diverse Investment Options: AIFs can invest in real estate, private equity (investing in private companies), hedge funds (using strategies to protect against market downturns), commodities, and more. Expert Management: These funds are managed by professional fund managers who have expertise in the specific areas the AIF is investing in. They make strategic decisions to achieve high returns. Higher Returns with Higher Risk: AIFs often aim for higher returns compared to traditional investments, but they also come with higher risks. The performance can be volatile, and there is a possibility of significant gains or losses. Regulations and Categories: In India, AIFs are regulated by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and are categorized into three types: Category I: Invests in socially or economically desirable projects like start-ups, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), infrastructure projects, etc. Category II: Does not take leverage or borrow funds apart from day-to-day operations. These include private equity funds or debt funds. Category III: Employs diverse or complex trading strategies to make short-term gains, like hedge funds. Minimum Investment Requirement: Generally, AIFs have a higher minimum investment requirement compared to mutual funds, making them suitable for high-net-worth individuals (HNIs) and institutional investors.
Parimal bhai, Thanks for this case study. A month ago, I calculated XIRR of my MFs and Stock portfolio constructed over last 4.5 years, I could see that boring MF had delivered handsome returns in comparison to the Stocks. I am slowly converting it into MF portfolio and investing in 6 different thesis and fund managers.
Sir , firstly thanks for sharing this .... main kar chuka hoon aur have invested in 2 AIFs since 2018 , i wont name the fund house its from a renowned bank , ticket size 1 cr each , they make drwadown of funds as and when they please , and their completion deadline keeps shifting further and further .... as of now , I have got back 1.74 cr of my capital back and made 56 lakh since 2018 (when I started contributing to the AIF) ...... that time I had little financial knowledge and also little time ...... but standing today I can say that it was a real waste of time and money all these 6 years ..... Even If i had put this money in FD for these 6 years , I would have made better return and simplified tax formalities ........
i have seen a lot of finance people discussing about mf - stocks- aif- pms. but no one is talking about net returns after deducting and considering taxation. pls make a detail video with all aspects taken into consideration , and i am sure the simple mutual fund strategy would be the best one. i bet no one on youtube is showing the taxations and net return for above investment options
Short term gain tax increase will make PMS, AIF and small case investors bleed due to quarterly buy and sell and mutual fund investors smile. 😂 By the way AIFs are not supposed to invest in direct equities but they do.
