I think a Parthia guide would do well, as you basically only have two settlements pressed up against the map against two factions who want you dead (Sulucide Empire ain’t much of a problem now that I’m thinking about it)
France. You can actually control who attacks you early. If you take Rennes, the English will betray you early. If you take Bordeaux you will find yourself in an early war with Portugal. Take Metz, and it will be HRE. Now, Milan is a little different. They want both Dijon and Marseille, so it doesn’t matter if you take Dijon early, because they are going to attack you anyway. That’s my only tip that I really have.
14:28 The Stratiots have one key use: shredding horse archers. They can close the gap with them, even Mongol and Timurid ones, very quickly, they won't take too many casualties on the way (especially if they're in loose formation), and their melee capabilities far surpass all but the most elite horse archers.
I just rewatched your world according to Total war all 5 episodes plus your livestreams on Thrace & Romano British. All Classics. I would like to see a Rome Rebels guide. There are lots of people in the world happy to see you back. God Bless you and your Family!!!
one a side note, man i played this so much. there's something that just sparked in me about the middle ages and i'v been interested in ancient and medieval history ever since. The soundtrack and the sound design is especially captivating.
Interesting opening moves, but usually I convert Bologna into a castle instead of Florence. Because the latter is richer than Bologna as city. And Bologna as castle, from which units can reach Venice, Florence, and Milan. In short, Bologna is strategic region as castle more than city (and also just in case Papal states declare war on player)... Also if you follow this opening moves, you need to switch your capital to Ragusa to reduce financial corruption because Greece is a rich area and you don't want its money reduced by corruption...
Excellent video. Maybe you can make more of these videos based on culture/religious factions? You started with Venice so finish the other italian factions to your preference for example then move on to the Iberian factions, Muslim factions etc. This is the game that keeps on giving and will watch whatever you put out!
Also destroy castle buildings a turn before converted to city, because if you don't do so you don't get a little bit of money to build City Watch and get Pavise Xbowman... Edit: I'm wrong, I thought Palermo is already fortress, turns out it still a castle, but still you need to convert it straight away. Try to ally with the Pope in the first few turns and build church to improve relations...
Nice strategy, Melkor... I never think about it to use Cristiano and Alessandro to blitzkrieg at Thessaloniki after conquer both Corinth and Durazzo and march towards Constantinople... I always concentrate on Italian peninsula making me always facing agression from the Byzantine... Thanks for tips
I’d really like to see one of these for every faction in Rome 1 and Med 2! I’ve played every faction in both 50+ times, and in the case of med 2 Byz campaign probably a few thousand times( no joke) but it’s still fun to see different ways others play!
I usually attack Bologna on turn 1 or 2. The HRE will immediately agree to a ceasefire afterward. I once got them to agree to agree to a ceasefire, alliance, and trade rights in exchange for Innsbruck and Staufen. They were pretty crippled for a while, but ended up rampaging in the East and bouncing back. In the early game Alexius and John are the only family members in the Byzantine Empire. If you kill them before they have the chance to adopt anyone else the Empire turns into a bunch of rebels. If you attack them early the AI tends to have them both turtle in Constantinople.
But if you buy it, you get 5 crossbow mercs for free. Meaning if you buy it and then go to war, only paying for half, you gain money. The money sent to the HRE means nothing as the ai cheats with money anyway.
re merchant's wharf bug - is it just the first tier of this chain that doesn't give the bonus, or the whole building chain? If it's just the first tier, it may be worth building the first just to get access to the rest.
To be honest I've never played as a Byzantium Empire. Their unit roster is so poor. In first medieval they had much more then in the second game. Because of that I never played that faction. I've even played russia, that actually should be called Kievan Rus, and capital should be Kiev. Maybe you make a video about Byzantium Empire?
I'm not a fan of Stainless Steel. I don't have the time for big Total War campaigns anymore, and big mods like that add more cities that just take too long. If there was a version of the Mod but on the OG, smaller campaign map, I would be all for it.
What Faction should I cover next: And what secret Tips do you know about them?

How about Egypt I've always had a bit of trouble as them
How about a pagan Lithuania guide?

Melkor is easily my favorite RUclipsr. He's changed my Total War gaming life with his insightful commentary...

I would absolutely love an updated guild guide.
Roads? Smiley? nah lets go to Cornith!
A fun throwback
the best medieval 2 faction guide I consider so far
I feel like all the recent videos have been at a really high level, glad ur back :)
“Mel gone”
Epic statement, but sad reality that the video is done!

Need a video on Denmark! My favorite faction
That last top tip hurt. I had been exclusively making merchant's wharfs this entire time!
XD Yeah, they do basically nothing
I stopped watching your videos for 2 weeks and then I find out that you came back in those 2 weeks
Putting a castle in the middle of mainland Italy right next to the Pope is a power move I hadn’t considered before
RUclips has gotten a lot better since you are back, melkor. Thx for your duty!

I need one of these for Sicily because for some reason I always play terrible when I play it Sicily
the trick is to convert Palermo to city straight away and grow Naples quickly...
Also destroy castle buildings a turn before converted to city, because if you don't do so you don't get a little bit of money to build City Watch and get Pavise Xbowman...

Thanks for the good quality video ! I never really understood how trade works exactly and what trade fleets are
Cristiano takes Constantinople and goes on crusade.
This was my first faction, and was my favourite for a long time. now it sits comfortably at second place behind egypt.

@@MelkorGG Free settlements > free units
I wonder if hes played sship
Can someone explain exactly what command points do
God I've missed you
Also fun fact, you can take out Milan in roughly 4 turns
Is there a mod to improve the camera movement
At what turn do milan will attk me?
return of the king (I will never do that deal and just attack the HRE)
convert a city to castle as an italian faction ? heresy ?!

I am 99% sure it is the whole chain which is bugged.
@@MelkorGG Thanks for the reply. I'll maybe test it (in Kingdoms too) and post the result.
All the italian factions are the same : great economy because they dont need castles and very strong crossbowmen.
Is it Cornith or Corinth, Melkor?
Kornith...

Well I think videos about stainless steel would be better, because let’s be honest. Vanilla Medieval is not that good now in 2024.
