To address the elephant in the room though, glitches, so far I've encountered only a few minor animation glitches playing in co-op but worse, the performance is completely unacceptable. I am getting on average 30-50 FPS pretty much no matter how I change the settings and I notice that my GPU and CPU usage hovers around 50-60% at most, often less than that. No idea what is going on there, some people are lucky enough to not have any real performance issues, some people are having completely inexplicable bad performance despite exceeding the recommended specs. If you really love Serious Sam games and can't wait to play this and/or you want to support Croteam, I'd say buy it and see how it runs for you. Otherwise, wait for some much-needed major patches down the line. To Croteam's credit, they released a hotfix the day after release and are intensely working on more patches, being active on both discord and their steam forums but that doesn't change the fact they should not have released the game in this state in the first place, even if they are quick in patching it. EDIT: I was not prepared to hear decino say "Sam-kun" like that 😂
Oh man i need to say, the commentary you make on the game is so interesting, you talk about the gameplay, the physics and the graphics, and is very good to hear every single topic you have to say on, although i didn't find this game so much interesting, i like this video, and it's all because of decino's commentary, so funny, keep it up
Despite all the massive flaws the game has, I find the gunplay and music to be a lot better than their last effort in BFE and it's keeping me hooked on the game so far. Popping the gnaars with the double shotgun and watching them fly away like deflating water balloons is def a highlight for me. They also did switch up the enemy hierarchy quite a bit, like how firecrackers are more threatening now and gnaar being able to hit you even if you're moving away from them. I find myself dealing with the smaller enemies first before the larger ones unlike the previous games.
I'm playing through it whenever I can and I am enjoying it a whole lot so far. It definitely needs some polish and performance fixing but it definitely is a big step up from SS3 and is looking to be one of the better entries in the series in terms of the moment to moment gameplay.
Yeah besides the jank, the gameplay is great. It's just disappointing imo that the devs announced so much technical innovation like open-world maps and the legion system and you don't really see much of that. But as a normal Serious Sam game, it's not bad from what I played so far.
Wow, that was a surprise. When i saw a lot of negative reviews, i thought you won't be playing at least on youtube. Anyway it good to see, finally i hope to get all secrets on this game thanks to you (i try to find secrets by myself, i am after papamobile map). I can tell by now that i like new Sam game. 100% achievements seems to be easy unlocked. Hope you will enjoy this gsme too :)
Please, decino, you don't have to do this. Just because you're the biggest Sam turbo nerd, doesn't mean you need to subject yourself to this torture for our sakes, it's okay to just let this one be.
Excited to see the rest. I only find maybe 3 secrets per level so far so I commend your efforts. Though when you said you didn't have a long range weapon for the Scrapjacks I couldn't help but remember that rocket launcher you said you weren't going to use.
They spent their entire budget on the shotgun. Seriously, can we talk about how SATISFYING IT IS? The boom sound when you shoot, the distortion effect, excellent delay between shots (just enough that it doesn't feel too fast or too sluggish), nice tight spread so you can murder stuff just like in ye olde Doom...
It is so weird for me to see you play another game different from Doom. I mention this beacuse I subscribed your channel last year in this month Very nice.
They clearly know what makes a good serious sam game, but somebody in there in that team is continually yelling "MORE MODERN, MORE COOL". It'd be better if they just tried not to evolve it too much and instead focus on what they did great with SS3 and improve on what wasn't. SS3 had good gameplay, uninspired areas and a horrible story. Get rid of the story, make areas like 2nd encounter's last 3 stages, bam. Graphics aren't even necessary if you got good art direction, look at dusk or ion fury.
This game looks very cool and fun :D I like that you can sprint in this game, I wish you could do that in The First and The second encounters, because there were very big maps and Sam was kinda slow haha
Well, at least the first level looks fun. Anyways, I look your gameplay videos not because the game, but because of you, so i'm gona support any game you feel comfortable playing ❤️
Well to be fair to Croteam in regards to the physics and Sam's movement Decino, the game wasn't really meant with proper jumping in mind, that was a purely secondary thing to Croteam, they were always more interested in just how many enemies they could throw at the player at any given time. It was only SS3 and SS4 where jumping played a more prominent roll as those had hard required jumping sections.
recording suggestion: hdmi splitter/doubler, second hdmi output (with same signal as primary that goes to the display) into an hdmi-usb adapter, adapter plugged into a second computer (laptop?) that just captures the video. these hdmi-usb adapters are now around $10 in chinese stores and they do the job. this way the gaming machine does not need to compromise on graphics quality.
@@samiris2973 4 is better that 3 in every way (except maybe the final boss). There's more bugs and the graphics aren't up to 2020 standard, sure. I KNEW THEY HAVE ROCKET LAUNCHER IN LEVEL 1 WHAT, THAT'S TOO CLEVER FOR A SECRET. Btw thanks for being more optimistic and realistic to this game than other reviewers. It feels underrated right now
I know a year or so ago they teased that thousands of enemies screenshot but I'm glad they included the prelude level else I'd only manage to get half way through the first level before giving up. Looks very ordinary at the moment. I'll stick with it though (by that I mean I'll watch decino stick with it)
Jesus those Processes and smaller Gnaars run so fast on Serious. They run slower on Normal but without a doubt this is the hardest Serious Sam in the series. It's hardcore even on Normal difficulty. The only thing I mind in this game is models and textures popping in and out which they will hopefully fix in upcoming optimization patches and human character animations, also melee animations suck, it's obvious that the budget was spent on enemy and weapon animations or somewhere more important. I am having a blast with this game and it's pretty long too. With sightseeing and all sidequests I have spent 15 hours on 12 levels currently. I still have to finish lvl12 and do 3 more levels so that's going to be around 20 hours for me. Btw, my first ever death in ss4 was getting ran over by Biomech Minor because I thought they can't melee you when you get up close with db shotgun xD. But if you hit them with DB Shotgun while they are doing melee charge you can stun them for a few seconds, that's when you can do a melee kill when you unlock medium enemies melee in skill tree.
I'll admit, I have a soft spot for SS. I love #2, I don't even dislike #3 all that much. These games are a lovely callback to where you could have games that were somewhere *between* triple-a cinematic masterpieces and plucky indie games. It obviously has *some* budget and productive value behind it, yet at the same time it feels rough around the edges and imperfect in the sort of good way of people making games and experimenting with stuff to have fun with it rather than trying to minutely calculate what will hit those focus-testing groups the best. It's far from perfect... but damn if it doesn't have some heart put in it.
It's not even just the lack of mass. From looking at it, everything moves too fast. Nothing has any momentum. They speed up from 0 to 100 and slow down from 100 straight to 0. And their 100 speed is also way too fast. This might (big might) work better with a game like Doom where it uses sprites, but animated 3D models need to move more realistically or it comes off looking awkward.
Civvie explained this I believe of how they were working on a modern shooter but the game didn't end up happening so they reused assets from that game and made Serious Sam 4.
This sounds like such a mixed bag game from everyone I've heard opinions from (especially Framerater, one of the bigger Sam fans on YT). In my case I'm probably gonna wait on the game to get some big patches and wait for a sale that's at least 50% off. The biggest issue I've seen so far is the environments that look like they're meant to be arenas to fight tons of enemies using the new Legion System have barely any spawns when compared to prior games.
Keep in mind Framerater was giving his impressions on the buggy pre-launch build on co-op by himself on Serious. He bodes far better on Normal, which he later admitted is more his speed. He was also exhausted from playing the game nonstop which is why he was so salty.

EDIT: I was not prepared to hear decino say "Sam-kun" like that 😂
I like that little honest review at the end. Thank you for it. And also 4 hours to 100% a level. That's dedication.
I'm a simple man I see decino I click
Dead simple
@@slaughterchainsaw OPs profile pic checks out
Oh man i need to say, the commentary you make on the game is so interesting, you talk about the gameplay, the physics and the graphics, and is very good to hear every single topic you have to say on, although i didn't find this game so much interesting, i like this video, and it's all because of decino's commentary,
so funny, keep it up
I haven't completed the game yet, but I love it a lot so far, good luck Decino!
I much prefer the SS3 soundtrack. Mostly.
I heard a lot of bad things about this game, I hope your (playthrough/walkthrough?) can help me form a decision on getting it.
honestly don't get it, it honestly needs quite a bit fixing to be enjoyable.
I'm playing through it whenever I can and I am enjoying it a whole lot so far. It definitely needs some polish and performance fixing but it definitely is a big step up from SS3 and is looking to be one of the better entries in the series in terms of the moment to moment gameplay.
@@thenostalgicslav7386 that's fantastic to hear. Thank you for your thoughts.
Yeah besides the jank, the gameplay is great. It's just disappointing imo that the devs announced so much technical innovation like open-world maps and the legion system and you don't really see much of that. But as a normal Serious Sam game, it's not bad from what I played so far.
I bought it a long time ago but I'll wait a few months to play it when it's patched up
Thanks for the game play. I look forward to Civvie 11's eventual review.
He apparently liked it, to the point that it is becoming his favorite after TSE: twitter.com/Civvie11/status/1309547120974860288
@@luperteverett1271 Cheers for that.
@@Lightraymuse Np at all!
Thanks for the instructive video. From what I'm seeing, killing monsters with the knife feels like nothing.
Decino: Most of the budget has probably gone to voice acting
Sam "serious" Stone: YEP
was really not expecting you to make a playthrough of this soon, still pretty cool to see tho
the new Talos principle looks nice but idk about the shooting aspect
10 seconds in I'm wondering how your pc hasn't blown up yet
Excited to see the rest. I only find maybe 3 secrets per level so far so I commend your efforts. Though when you said you didn't have a long range weapon for the Scrapjacks I couldn't help but remember that rocket launcher you said you weren't going to use.
They spent their entire budget on the shotgun. Seriously, can we talk about how SATISFYING IT IS?
The boom sound when you shoot, the distortion effect, excellent delay between shots (just enough that it doesn't feel too fast or too sluggish), nice tight spread so you can murder stuff just like in ye olde Doom...
Really glad they make knife as standard melee, SS3 sledgehammer is so heavy and awkward to use.
Better review than anything else I've seen. I think Decino missed his calling in voice acting.
It is so weird for me to see you play another game different from Doom. I mention this beacuse I subscribed your channel last year in this month
Very nice.
Yay, Serious Sam has returned to the channel!
Thank you for muting the voices btw.
"Okay Sam-kun, you can now stab me in the face" XD
thanks decino you help for my 100% run, if you crouch after the jump it´s easier to get to the secrets.
Oh wow - one of my favorite you tubers playing one of my favorite games - did not see this coming - thanks in advance - Mr DNA
Wow, new game from decino? Sounds interresting! 💪
Sam Azar no
Tbh I'd like to see him do something completely different, like some old 8 and 16 bit classics.
Man, this is so great to watch after your 100% run of Serious Sam 3!
That summary screen just looks like something they've thrown together in Notepad :D
Decino: fails a lot on an EASY PARKOUR (yes its easy)
Me: DOOMGUY-DONT-JUMP PRIDE
Thanks for the upload! Love your videos decino.
Idk, feels strange to kill car-heavy enemy with barely visible knife stab
I watched your channel for the first time... You're a pro... Amazing.
Scrapjacks = Serious Sam's answer to the Mancubus in Doom 2.
Well, at least the first level looks fun. Anyways, I look your gameplay videos not because the game, but because of you, so i'm gona support any game you feel comfortable playing ❤️
Lot of respect for dedicating to hunting for secrets, rather then just looking them up.
Well, there are no guides yet.
I can feel my heart rate rising watching you do the platforming 😬😬😬
An unexpected surprise but a welcome one
Well to be fair to Croteam in regards to the physics and Sam's movement Decino, the game wasn't really meant with proper jumping in mind, that was a purely secondary thing to Croteam, they were always more interested in just how many enemies they could throw at the player at any given time. It was only SS3 and SS4 where jumping played a more prominent roll as those had hard required jumping sections.
Glad you're doing a playthrough of it! Excited to see more
Literally any enemy: *ready to kill*
Sam: *shoots Belcher*
Any enemy: Guess I'll die.
recording suggestion: hdmi splitter/doubler, second hdmi output (with same signal as primary that goes to the display) into an hdmi-usb adapter, adapter plugged into a second computer (laptop?) that just captures the video. these hdmi-usb adapters are now around $10 in chinese stores and they do the job. this way the gaming machine does not need to compromise on graphics quality.
But but the Processed are actually fun when there's a large group of them and you have a minigun. Gibbing is so satisfying in this game.
The sound they make is very annoying still, specially when you try to run away
cool game man, did you downloaded it from the Unity store?
The lack of feedback when you use the knife is so unsettling
No improvements on this feedback since 2000 lol
@@JustinQuinn623 The sledgehammer/axe had good feedback in SS3 and it had 3 ways of attacking but I don't see that returning
I misheard “92 hours earlier” as “2 hours earlier” and was surprised at how bad things got so quickly.
Wow this came out of nowhere, sad this game wasn’t exactly what we wanted to.
Community posts anyone?
Dunno what you wanted but this looks like it delivered on all fronts
jukaa1012 you played the game or the other ones, 3 wasn’t great but it wasn’t a travesty like this. Although if you enjoyed it, more power to you.
@@samiris2973 4 is better that 3 in every way (except maybe the final boss). There's more bugs and the graphics aren't up to 2020 standard, sure. But what kind of person doesn't understand pacing, lvl design, gunplay but shits on a game regardless? This sam has the best enemies, weapons and gibbing in the franchise thus far. They lieraly took all the good parts from all the Sam games and put them into one. You just jumped on the hate train because its easy nowadays. No respect or appreciation
I played most Serious Sam, the first and second encounters when they came out. I really do not understand the supposed fans tho.
They want something new? Hate something new.(ss2)
They want a modern take on the series? They hate modern take of the series(ss3).
They want the old games back? They hate the "remasters"...
What do you want? You make final fantasy fans and dark soul fans look coherent!
I'll stick with it though (by that I mean I'll watch decino stick with it)
Something cool:
The architecture of the first level is pretty similar to that of The Talos Principle, a beautiful puzzle game made by Croteam.
The fact that Croteam had to do everything in house is very punk rock
Aw hell ye, finally someone to search for secrets in France levels. Have fun with a game, it is fairly decent on serious as far as combat goes.
The Scrapjack, also known as the I Can't Believe It's Not a Mancubus
You're playing SS4 😃 Now you made me happy, I'll be looking forward to new eps!
Inertia? Never heard of her.
The skyboxes and ilumination in the recent Croteam games are very pretty imo.
Only a matter of time until the broken kill counts make their move...
Nice vid Decino, i also have played a bit of this game, and yes its a bit dissapointing if you compare it to the earlier Serious Sam games
Civvie explained this I believe of how they were working on a modern shooter but the game didn't end up happening so they reused assets from that game and made Serious Sam 4.
can't wait to play this in five years when it's on fusion
Yeah, in the blind playthrough Gar (aka OMGarrett) is doing he sniped those Scrapjacks pretty neatly with a mix of pistol and shotgun fire.
Oh god this was a great surprise! Thank ya, decino!
Wow it worse than i expected good job croteam.
Really excited to see your opinion on this game.
Another banger of a video
I can never tell when decino is being serious or not.
The pun was not intended
Can't wait for you to rage like crazy at the monster filled levels later
4:48 - That's the T-virus container. :-o
In this episode, Decino trash talks serious sam for almost 20 minutes lmao
