    In this video we show you how to install Japanese motorcycle bullet connectors as well as other types of electrical connectors common to vintage Honda CB350, CB360, CB450, CB550 and CB750 wiring harness. A quick review of the various tools and supplies that we use leads us into the proper repair procedures: wire stripping, soldering, crimping, heat-shrinking. These are necessary techniques to properly fix and modify any motorcycle wiring harness.
    We have also put together an electrical connector and repair kit with all the right terminals and wire needed to make the job easy.

    Very comfortable presentation, felt like I was hangin' out watching you work. Great lesson, nice work. Finally! Out of all the videos I've watched that included soldering you are the first in my recollection to describe *and* demonstrate the correct method of applying heat and solder. Worth adding that a good solder joint will be shiny, the grungy looking ones are cold solder, poor contact, and easily broken. Thanks for doing this, much appreciated.

    Great demos. I sure would like to see tin or silver plated wire. When I see beautiful shiny copper I then see green corrosion….

    Is there great difference in the quality of the terminal / connectors? How important is it on a Honda to use the bullet-type terminals vs auto type that are soldered well as you do here?

    Hey Brenden: Another great video, thanks. One question - I notice that you don't use any flux - is there a reason for not using it?

    Did Honda solder the connections at the factory? I tried to solder a couple of my connections but failed miserably. I think my iron isn't hot enough. I found it especially difficult trying to solder a broken wire together that was on the bike... so I couldn't take it the bench to work on it. I'm getting ready to ditch that cheap blue plastic splicer that came with my Dyna S ignition and tap into the main ignition wire properly.

      We don't unfortunately! Most of the OEM harnesses we see are in pretty great shape though. I'd recommend picking up a good shape used one and just fixing and cleaning it up a bit vs. starting from stratch.

    So I’ve used a circuit tester and it shows current but when I hook the harness together my bike still isn’t getting power. I’ve checked everything a million times over any ideas?

    • @Common-motor
      @Common-motor  6 лет назад +2

      EnjoyTheRideWithMe most of the wires in the bike is 16 gauge. Items like starters use much larger wires since they draw large current

    • @EnjoyTheRideWithMe
      @EnjoyTheRideWithMe 6 лет назад

      Thank you. I appreciate your videos so much! I realize that's what you are working with in the video, 16 gauge, but I didn't want to assume. Is there a way to look at a wire and know what gauge it is? The stuff on my bike is pretty old and beat up, so I'm seeing nothing written on the housing.

    You can get heat shrink tubing which is lined with an adhesive coating, which melts and seals as it shrinks, leaving you with a completely waterproof connection on a splice joint
