Beer and Bread is a perfectly fine game that is also quite banal and forgettable. I'm sure this is a lot of peoples "cup of tea" but for me it was a room temperature cup of tea, with no sugar and definitely no honey.

Thanks for the review Jarrod. With so little time to play games now, been needing to figure out which games in shrink I should just sell. Your video helped me make a decision. Much appreciated!

Thanks for the review! I'd be tempted to get this to play with my wife, as it might just be short and simple enough for her to want to play with me, but just euro-y enough for me to scratch that itch. I do really like cards with multiple uses (love La Granja for that).
However, if she doesn't like it - there's not many other people I'd play it with, as we'd probably play something heavier.

I picked this up last year based on repeated praise for it from The Brothers Murph combined with a low price tag offer. I too was expecting more, but my friend and I still had a good time. We both felt the meat of the game is in choosing which cards to draft. I can see how this can hit the sweet spot for some players while underwhelming those (such as myself) who typically prefer heavier euros and overwhelming those who prefer Ticket to Ride level complexity. It's a solid game, but it takes more than that to stand out in today's market.

Not one I'd buy, as I so rarely get to play 2 player games, but it looks decent enough without offering anything that feels 'new'. The video did get me thinking that I reckon I'd prefer card drafting in two player games, more than in multiplayer games. Too often in higher player counts, it can be punishing if the player ahead of you wants the same cards. In 2 player, you'll also get a feel for what your opponent is aiming for, given the cards they take.

Played this at TantrumCon, this year. I liked it, but find no fault in the review. I thought it made a good "cool down" game, that is, something not too heavy or competitive. I wouldn't mind buying a copy, but I'm not sure how often it would get played.

Thanks for review. It's too light weight to seasoned gamers. It's travel friendly and intriguing to newbies / busy on-the-go players 😅 Would you like Glass Road / Nusfjord more?

I've not played either of those. I think steph and I would play Azul or Calico if we were doing a 2 player game of a similar length

I would probably play Fields of Arle instead, but I think my life would like that one. However we already have a lot of 2 player games (7W duel, Watergate, Patchwork, Targi, Sobek 2p) so this one probably won't join the ranks for now

This looks delightful. Hopeful I can try it, maybe at a game cafe or something, soon.

I had this game in my hands a couple of different times, ready to buy, but after glancing at BGG, I always put it back.
It looks interesting, but after you watch/read a review, you realize it's meh and will only be played once or twice before you get bored with it.
It should have been released 10 years ago.

for a greater 2 player game, try Pocket Master Builder

This looks like a perfectly serviceable game, one I would likely enjoy well enough, with no real hooks to get me to play it. The theme is pretty dull but could work if it had a hook elsewhere (it could be I'm just bored with the "medieval Euro peasant" theme for Eurogames). The art is alright enough, but is *exactly* the standard earth-tone bland of a Eurogame. The mechanics look good, but lack something that would set it apart, be it a form of further player interaction or one more layer of mechanics (though the latter would get in the way of the "simple two-player Euro" intention, admittedly).
I dunno, it looks like a slightly heftier version of the games I only ever play at the local game café when two or three of us have shown up early. One of the many "played once, agreed it was an average time, never taken off the shelf again" boxes.

I agree! It was a pretty meh game. Honestly think the board game marketing worked overtime on this one. It has nothing special and is ultimately forgettable.
