Everytime I watch you and your wife living THE LIFE, I get so homesick. I was raised in the Ouichita Mountains (Wash-ih-tah) of SE Oklahoma...............................THANK YOU for sharing your life with us!
Was off the grid on vacation and I came back to this video! Love it as usual. Please make the most of these beautiful outgoing winter months. Thank you for sharing your snowed-in wilderness life with us. Love every bit of it.
As a South African that was a decent-looking potjie. I know it may be difficult but the meat should have been flowered first, brown it remove it then put the onions that would have thickened the sauce as well. This is the second video I have watched and was cool to see the pot lol.
It is always good to cure a new pot before you cook in it. There is a strange taste to the food if you don't. Love seeing South African food springing up all over the world. Thanks for the vid.
I am from South Africa A few tips using the cast iron pot (potjie). Brown meat and onions, then reduce the heat so that it barely boils. The idea is to cook very slowly. Once you add vegetables, don't stir until 10 minutes before the end. I add my rice straight into the pot and it cooks perfectly in the pot with everything else. Don't use to much liquid A little corn flour at the end to thicken the sauce. Main secret is slow cooking on very gentle heat. Otherwise the food can turn to mush
Sets up the whole camp, chops firewood, makes and maintains the fire, cooks a restaurant level meal, does the whole talking and keeps it interesting and informative...welcome to couples camping )))
Greetings from South Africa. Nice one Dave. The nice thing about Potjiekos ( Dutch Oven ) is that you can use so many things like chicken, beef chuck, oxtail ( with red wine ) etc. Keep it up - Like you videos!
That stew and rice looks awesome. The girl adds a lot of cheer and happiness and fun to the video, otherwise the video might seem a bit too serious and dry. The girl is like magical angel dust to the video, just makes everything bright and happy, a wonderful camping partner.
@@justdynee The camp is exceptional, really good setup. It's all great to see, I love that kind'a stuff, the next best thing to actually being out there; it is kind'a an escape even just enjoying watching these videos. ...but what's it all worth if you can't share that with the woman of your dreams who is so full of life, smiles, and just a really bright happy spirit. It's the best of both worlds and I don't see many other videos with such a great tag team ;) Everything is really cool and well done about the adventures the host is sharing, take it with a bit of humor. Happy winter angels and happy couples enjoying and sharing the outdoors,... all really great things!
definition simply and happiness, looking inside their tent and how delicious their food. But i am pretty sure these things inside are not that simple and easy to make warm inside there. well bravo friends nice job
I like watching your videos I lost you guys for a while. I had to get another phone but I enjoy what you guys do. Awesome. I got to buy me one of those pots. Have a great day.
This could definitely qualify as a cooking show, with an outdoorsy kind of twist!! What more could one ask for right? Good food, fresh air and from what I can see, good company. Cheers!!!
I hope you are all having a great day 😁 If you enjoyed this video, make sure to watch this one as well- ruclips.net/video/D_lwZ5e5VhY/видео.html If you are wondering where to buy the pot used in this video - amzn.to/37zbnsv
How about one day or such, making an extra small tent just for your stash of fire wood, keeping it dry from the elements possibly happening over night while sleeping or even during the day, making 2 stack, old stash 1 side, new stash other, having the new stash dry out as long as possible
I got to try this I have an extra magnet door strip. I thought we lost it and just found it with the Christmas decorations. I hate zipping and unzipping every time I go in and out of the hot tent.
Great video. Pronunciation. Is poy(like toy) key ( like for a lock) koss ( like the Americans say hoss for a horse). Poy-key-koss. Then you will sound exactly like a South African. That pot is also wonderful for making bread as well as Pap (pronounced pup), which is a starch stiff maize meal. When you hungry, it makes you happy. You will have to look up chakalaka sauce. That’s its own rabbit hole. You made me happy, thank you.
I would definitely try this type of camping. I have cooked quite a few things camping, since I did a lot as a Boy Scout. I think for winter camping I would do either spit roasting something over a fire, or a tomato and ravioli/tortellini soup.
Bring along a firearm or two if you're spit roasting in the middle of the woods, in the middle of the winter, when food supplies are down for wildlife. The majority of animal attacks in the wild don't get reported. Most likely you'll just get curiosities, have fun, but be very careful. My friends and I have had to hop on sleds and ATVs to run out to go help Flatlanders who are trying to brave the wild, we respect your sense of adventure, but please do it carefully. Those of us who live off the beaten path are your 911.
You’ve been really pushing the content lately, and I appreciate it. Hopefully you get to take some of your summer trips and can post those as well. They are very enjoyable.
Man I came looking for cold above the 60th parallel! Instead I got you cooking this fantastic looking rack of lamb and making me hungry when I'm fasting! Good job!
You cook like me exactly, but keep the skins of vegetables; all vitamins are in the skin For example; iodine in the skin of carrots… Use brown rice or whole grain rice than white “dead” rice…
When I saw get that cauldron out, I was reminded of Gargamel in the Smurfs when he used to prepare the stew. When I saw him chop the carrots and potatoes, I couldn't help but imagine him going in the forest to chase down some smurfs.
Enjoyed your video. Fancy cooking to. I use to hike in the Adirondack Mountains at -40° below zero. Our food was restricted to what we could carry. When I saw you scoop out the food from the pot the lattle had holes in it. I'm sure the broth was excellent to. The camera didn't show you putting any of it on your plate. Very beautiful place! One thing with these videos that everybody who has spent any time in the north will know, you can't fake cold weather, you hear it from the footsteps in the snow.
Love the channel and the cooking part is so good! I make the same recipe, but got to try it with rice. Luv lamb! Just the snow makes it a warm meal to have. 👍👍🙏
Damn, love that cast iron. That woodstove looks like the old "tin lizzys" we used to get years ago. Ain't seen one in decades, they don't last long but them things can run you outdoors if you over fuel.
If you never eat outdoors like this you’re missing out... I do this once a year I camp for about two weeks in the Colorado Rockies . If you have a spouse it can bring life time memories and if your single it can bring you life time memories, awesome video I subscribed.

You may want to try using the Dutch Oven on the tent wood stove, bet those legs would fit in the top opening. Saves making two fires and running in and out. I'm ready for some lamb stew for breakfast, swear I can smell it.
I’m a new subscriber to your channel and have enjoyed many of your winter camping videos this evening. Your camp is really setup well for just about anything you want to do. Thanks for sharing your time and adventures with us. 😎🤘
Food looks fabulous 😋. I haven't had food cooked out on an open fire in a really long time. Going to ask my landlord if I can have a fire pit in front yard. One way to get to know the neighbors, with food cooking. I subscribed to your channel 2 days ago, so I'm trying to watch all your videos. Thank You for sharing. Much luv from Virginia Beach, Va 🏖❤
I haven't heard a more crisp and clear sounding audio in any other RUclips video
For this I’m watching. People forget sound is the most important thing
How did a tent become a sound stage
It's not real audio it was taken from websites already recorded in studios
@@carmafia5606 i don't think so
@@carmafia5606 this would be incredibly difficult to pull off. It’s possible but I highly doubt he did that. The sounds are way too accurate
He gets to use the tools the way they were designed and does so in a humble manner, I’m binge watching, glad there are short 20 minute videos

Cast iron cookware is an absolutely awesome idea to use in a out door adventure.
It seems like a cast iron stove would radiate way more heat so you burn way less wood. But I’ve never lived in a tent.
