Hood would crush Scharnhorst with ease. The weak German armament with thin deck armour, only 2 inches would make her easy meat. And that's ignoring the proven fact heavy German naval shells had a very high failure rate and the structural weaknesses that plagued most German WW2 ships. Remember BOTH Scharnhorst's ran from HMS Renown.
This is not the Gneisenau, but her sister the Scharnhorst type ship, very easy to recognize. The Gneisenau had the main mast on the funnel in front of the aircraft catapult, and the Scharnhorst had the main mast behind the aircraft catapult
Love this game! This was a interesting match-up. I wonder. Did you intend? The Hood is a powerful challenge. It has 15" guns with 12" belt, 15" turret and yet a paltry 3" deck armours. While Gneisenau would seem to barely qualify for this contest with its 11" guns. However, it makes up with its substantial 15" belt, 14" turrets and NINE (9") inch deck!
Scharnhorst and Gneisenau were supposed to be upgraded to 9 15in guns in triple turrets that they never put in. They 13in main belt. Would of been better then Bismarck
Very good game. Key is to aim for turrets and knock them out

Hood had a crack crew, but in these scenarios keeps missing, something wrong with the simulation.
I've yet to see one of these where Hood doesn't behave like a roman candle against any opposition. Fire on the boat deck an obligatory feature.

In the game, there's no cosmetic difference between the two ships.

Hood's deck armour was 7 inches
