I don't own a Featherweight machine, and I am not sure that is even in my future, but I still enjoy your videos so much! I have learned a lot about basic sewing machine functioning, and about the importance of proper care and maintenance. Plus, you just have a calming on-camera presence, which is most appreciated right now! Thank you!
This tool is great! I was afraid to “force” the gib screw on the bobbin case. I could see the thread but it wasn’t budging. I remembered this video. Ordered the tool Friday morning and it arrived Monday. The tool worked beautiful. Your tutorials are easy to understand and your customer services is superlative! Thank you.
Thank you, thank you, my "Irene" has been the one machine I can always count on, not so today.. thought with my yrs of experience troubleshooting I could figure it out. Hrs later... I went to your tutorial, yes I have my Marie back❤️
This tool arrived and boy does it work like magic! Thank you again. My next purchase will be the long handled screwdrivers that work better because they allow for more torque. Took 10 times as long to replace 6 screws than it took to use this tool.
Just found your new video on thread jams. I just got Pamela (222k) and was trying to get the gib hook open and this was a just the ticket. Please do more 222K videos. I.E. Maintenance oil, lube and motor care and tips.
Genius!!! Thank you for making such a tool that I had need of just 3 weeks ago!! The thread had everything jammed so tight that I had to remove the whole bobbin/hook assembly (or whatever it’s called) and even then I had to put on some vinyl gloves to get enough leverage to get the parts freely moving. Such a tiny piece of thread can cause such problems! I learned a lot, in the process, but this tool would have made the job so much easier. Thank you for your wonderful videos.
Looking forward to getting this tool. Tell your engineer I am great full that he made it as my 222 is really locked up. Was showing my granddaughter via FaceTime how to use her binding attachemtent and forgot to hold the thread down when I started and ended up with a thread jam. Fortunately I also have a 221, so was able to switch and show her.
That is great information and I will check the machine I have and see if I have a similar problem so I can clear it and get back to sewing. Thanks for the information provided and I will remember it and thank you all so much for helping us with our machines.
Thank you for the video! Just purchased your motor lube on Amazon. Purchased only because of your videos. I do not have a FW but do have a 301 n 201 all needing proper lube. You attention to detail is appreciated and amazing. Who does not rock the handwheel? Not me thanks to you. This bobbin case has a lot of similarities to the Pfaff bobbin case. If memory serves me correct you have to retime the machine after each jam. My 301 is days new to me and you have saved me from tearing apart my machine when, not if, it jams. Thanks again. I'm going to post this link on FB 301 page. It's info all need to know.
Is it still possible to ask a question? I was doing some "air sewing" the other day :/ knew I had run out of bobbing thread. But try as I might, I can't get the bobbin to come out. Have watched quite a few of your videos, and this is the closest one I've seen that might help me. While you don't have a bobbin case in there, you talk about the hook assembly & how it has to fit into the slot when the throat plate is removed. Why is it that my hook assembly is spinning freely before removing that throat plate? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. 🙂
Wonderful video, I just ran into this problem with my just purchased my Featherweight and ooopppss....where can I order this tool, I sure need it asap. I am not going to fix anything until I get this fixed first.
All of the products featured on our videos are available on our website. In the search bar on our site, query "Thread Jam Tool" and it will come right up. Happy to help and happy Featherweight sewing! :)
I just got a Featherweight from a friend that was her mother's. It has a thread jam!! So far I have done everything that you have suggested, but the thread is really jammed in there. I have let the oil puddle for over 48 hours and it still won't budge. I am on a fixed income and can't afford your tool, so do you have any other suggestions on how to get it to move??
Help! I removed the bobbin case, as shown here, removed the thread jam, quite a lil birdee nest, However, now I can not get the bobbin case to go back in, and stay in :( What do I do next? I'm not sure where I went wrong, I have re assembled exactly as I took it apart, now the bobbin just falls out, when I upright the machine, Can you help me?
I just inherited a lovely feather weight Singer, and would love to use it, only its missing the bobbin case :-(. Do you know where I can order the proper case?
Anyone have a reference URL link or know the mic (micrometer measured or dial caliper) size of the spindle of the bobbin case for a 221 featherweight? I bought Mom a bunch of Amazon-sourced bobbins and they're just a hair too tight to slip into the bobbin case without some fiddling. Mom is in her 80's and doesn't want to fiddle. I'd like to know the size of the spindle so I can get a cheap chuck reamer off Amazon and make those bobbins a bit more 80-year-old-finger installation friendly. Thanks!
We do NOT recommend altering the original bobbin case base because the issue is with new, poorly manufactured bobbins (and not with the manufacturing of the original Singer part) and comparatively, an original bobbin case base is very expensive to replace. Rather, it is much more economical to purchase bobbins from a reputable Featherweight source that specializes in the model specifically. Amazon is wonderful for many things, but not for service or quality parts for the Singer Featherweight. Here is the link to correct Featherweight bobbins that will work properly in the bobbin case: singer-featherweight.com/products/bobbins-roll-of-10 Here's a link to our blog post about bad bobbins specifically: singer-featherweight.com/blogs/schoolhouse/bad-featherweight-bobbins
The Singer Featherweight is a straight-stitch machine only, but there are many attachments, including zigzag, that can utilized. The Attachments section of the Schoolhouse will have more information on the various accessories available: singer-featherweight.com/blogs/schoolhouse
Hi, Frances Lunyou - we carry those on the website. Searching the website for "Service Mat" will bring it up for you: singer-featherweight.com/pages/search-results-page?q=service+mat
Follow the link above in the video description for the complete tutorial and links to the two different styles we carry depending on year of Featherweight. Happy to help! :)
An 18 needle would be the largest I would attempt, on a Featherweight, but I would do so gingerly. A size 16 would be the most comfortable for us to use. We are not familiar with that size thread, but if it's really thick, that may cause problems around the bobbin case. Report back with what you discover.

Just used this tool on my machine. It took about 1 second to get the bobbin case base out.......great tool!
Just used this tool on a thread jamb in my 301A, worked like a charm! Thanks to Burl in the Featherweight shop!

The "Thread Jam Tool" is the other suggestion for when puddling oil does not work. ;)
Great informative video! Thanks 😊

Hi shop
My bobbin had broken. How can I get new one for my singer 221?
Thank you
Hello - we carry them on our website at The Featherweight Shop: singer-featherweight.com
Could the 221 featherweight have a zigzag stitch or just straight stitch? Or is it the 222 one that has the zigzag stitch?
The Singer Featherweight is a straight-stitch machine only, but there are many attachments, including zigzag, that can utilized. The Attachments section of the Schoolhouse will have more information on the various accessories available:

WHERE MIGHT I GET THE BLACK MAT THAT YOU HAVE UNDER YOUR MACHINES WHEN YOU DO A VIDEO PLEASE
I WOULD LIKE TO GET IT IF IT DONT COST TOO MUCH
Hi, Frances Lunyou - we carry those on the website. Searching the website for "Service Mat" will bring it up for you:

How much is that tool removal i need it badly!
Follow the link above in the video description for the complete tutorial and links to the two different styles we carry depending on year of Featherweight. Happy to help! :)
Getting it soon. 😂👍
It's so hard not to reverse, it's almost an automatic reaction!
Do you think the featherweight could handle v-92 thread / #18 needle?
An 18 needle would be the largest I would attempt, on a Featherweight, but I would do so gingerly. A size 16 would be the most comfortable for us to use.
