Muppets Kermit the Frog and Rowlf the dog sang "Rainbow Connection" at the 2011 D23 Expo during the Legends ceremony in honor of Jim Henson.
You can hear the puppeteers were beginning to break down, that should say everything about Jim Henson and how his work affected people.
It was probably hard to do this with out crying. I love how whom ever was doing Rowlf here took time to have Rowlf make a couple wise cracks
Rowlf only got choked up cause Kermit accidentally was singing his line. Rowlf was holding back a laugh. Kermit part ur probably right

It's a blessing how his influence can be felt even to this day.
Jim's work really meant a lot to Kermit's puppeteer here Steve Whitmire that Steve took Jim's values and morals to heart with The Muppets but Steve ended up getting fired for sticking to what Jim knew about The Muppets.
You can hear Rowlf starting to lose it at 1:20 and then Kermit does too and they defused it with a joke to release the emotion so they could keep going. True brothers.
they really are first two original Muppets known each other forever rib each other and laugh it off because they knew they was getting choked up but wanted to finish it.
"Hey listen, do you know what the frog and the dog have in common?"
"No I don't."
"Well.... I think it's that guy up there!"
That line gets me every time cause Kermit and Rowlf were played by Jim Henson
Also, it's said that Rowlf is Muppet that Jim was most like, with no fancy catchphrase, outfit, or gimmick, just a floppy eared dog that played a mean piano.
the thing that brings tears to my eyes is, Rowlf was Jim's signature muppet, and Kermit was his favorite...

I want an MP3 of these two singing this together. The original version is special, but when you hear Kermit and Rowlf, Jim's first two characters, both of whom embody Jim's spirit, singing what's probably Jim's trademark song, it just makes it all the more special and magical.
And the fact I saw this live and as a total surprise just gives it an even more special meaning to me. :)

This song is me and my other halfs song i dedicated it and sang it for her at the school talent show and won i got my friend from school my neighborhood friends and my brother and his gf at the time to help me sing it i was tearing up singing i even had the judge crying because that song hit her and took her back she let me know she was a huge muppets fan
Amazing how a puppet can illicit feelings that a lot of times human characters can’t. It’s not that human characters aren’t good I think it’s just puppets are bigger versions of stuffed animals. Reminds us of a more innocent time in our lives. When we were little what were we doing with our toys that had faces? Making them talk, doing EXACTLY what puppeteers do and we didn’t know it then. Seeing the muppets and others like them awakens long forgotten memories of our childhood
I just love how the audience started to cheer after listening to only 2 seconds of the song. :)
This song transcends the generations. Henson's magic now inspires my children as well.
When Kermit was being interviewed on Johnny Carson the sound people were so engrossed by Kermit, that they had placed the boom mic over Kermit's head instead of Jim Henson who was underneath Kermit's chair.
The craziest thing was that he wasn’t sitting behind the chair, he was sitting in it holding Kermit. He was right there, but everyone’s attention was on the frog. Magical.
Doesn't that just show you what a genius Henson (God bless him) was? Amazing.
I remember sitting there singing along, and when they told everyone to join in, I didn't know how many people actually would. Then I listened. When that whole arena started to sing, it brought tears to my eyes. Such a magical ceremony.
After this Kermit said this about Jim Henson in an interview with D23. Kermit, "Jim & I were very close, He Elevated me to new heights in my career and had a hand in virtually everything I did"
We Love Kermit and hope to have him on the show one day.

Actually, although the voice of Kermit was Jim Henson, the song was actually written by Paul Williams, who says it's one of his faves. And for someone who's written so many, that's quite a statement. It's often dismissed as sugary, or a kid's song, but I disagree; the lyrics are great. The only thing I'd say is that it's often covered by singers whose voices are "too good" or who try to do too much with it - or who do it too slow. It's waltz, not a dirge.
I'm also surprised that it hasn't been covered more as a jazz number, because it has a nice simple base that could be easily worked on.

Jim Henson wasn't Kermit's "voice." He puppeteered Kermit first, and the voice was secondary.

I get the deepest feeling of love from this song. Listening to Jim Henson's soul gifted to us through the muppets. One of the most inspiring visionary dreamers of our time. Tears and smiles all wrapped in one song with a frog and a dog :)
This makes me want to cry so hard. I grew (and am still growing) up on the Muppets. They just... wow... I don't know what to say
I was in attendance. I still remember how overly emotional I was that this was happening before me! This still remains among my top five favorite D23 memories, for sure!
I was there too and it was a wonderful experience. One of my favorite memories of this event.
This song could be sung by anybody in the world. Anybody. But when it's sung by Kermit, that's when the tears come out.

Finally. BOTH of Jim's first two big successful characters performing again. It's been a while since we've really heard from Rolf.
And I don't know about you guys, but I lost it when the camera panned to that image of Jim.
I was there on the floor witnessing this in person. When everyone in that arena started to sing along, I teared up big time. This made my entire D23 Expo experience.
I was singing the whole time and remember seeing this movie as a kid in the early 90s. Everyone singing at the end in the crowd made me just smile widely. Thank you Jim Henson for everything you have left here for us to enjoy and remember our childhoods fondly.
I can't watch this without crying. It's beautiful. Jim Henson being serenaded by his own creations.

YAY! Rowlf, it's So good to see you again! Since Jim Henson's death, I felt like he disappeared along with him. He really is back! It's awesome Kermit and Rowlf performed this classic song together! Jim would be SO proud from heaven!!! XD

At 1:27 you can hear Kermit almost start crying
This is one of the most heartwarming songs out there.
And performed by what I think is the most heartwarming duo from the muppets. Kermit's character goes without sying, but I thnk Henson was exceptonally clever creating the warm, gruff and likeable character of Rowlf jus how one would imagine a dog to be. Rowlf is one dog I ould love to have a few beers with.

Rowlf is one of my fav muppets. I love duets between Kermit and Rowlf. This is beautiful ❤️. I also have love it when they do “I hope that something better comes along” I’m glad I found this. More Kermit and Rowlf duets ❤️.

@AwesomeActress101 Rowlf was Jim Henson's alter ego and was not performed for a long while after his death while Kermit still appeared. Glad to see Rowlf again and sounding great here with Kermit.
