I love this group & the song! I saw the documentary on The Cowsills a month ago & it was deeply moving, I have such admiration for these family members, their strength is amazing. This performance is pure fun, wish I could've been there in person!
For tunes like "Hair" and "The Rain, The Park & Other Things" that are replayed heavily on oldies radio, it's great to know that this group can belt out "Love, American Style" as if it were brand new.
This song takes us back to the simpilar and fun times of the 1960s when you would sit back and watch a TV show that had a great opening theme song. The Cowsills did an amazing job then and now with singing this memorable song ! Very happy to see the remaining members still performing and having fun ! Epic video ! ❤❤❤❤
I forgot all about this song (and tv show). Really a nice song, with great melodies, harmonies, and lyrics that mix in lines like "star spangled" and "by the dawn's early light". Great feel good song.
On this day in 1969 {September 29th} the comedic TV anthology series 'Love, American Style' premiered on the ABC-TV network... The series ran for five seasons with a total of 108 episodes; 90 of the episodes were 60 minutes in length, while 15 were 30 minutes long... In the show's first season the family singing group, The Cowsills, sang the theme song; and for the final four season it was performed by The Charles Fox Singers... Sadly; three members of the Cowsills have passed away; mother Barbara in 1985 at age 56, Barry* in 2005 at 51, and William in 2006 at 58... May all three R.I.P. * Barry was a victim of Hurricane Katrina on August 29th, 2005...
In all the post Katrina chaos it took a while to find his remains, which had to be identified through dental records. The family had just laid him to rest when they got the news about Billy. So sad.
I'd forgotten that. It wasn't until recently that I'd learned that the theme from Laverne & Shirley was an actual song that had gotten airplay. I'd always thought that it was written for the series.
@@doughesson you might be thinking of the Happy Days theme song... The first season they used Bill Haley's Rock Around the Clock, then they had a different theme song that a real band used but that real band were different people social musicians and singers put together a specifically, from what I could gather, for the purpose of promoting the theme song and promoting the TV show.
@@MeMeDaVinci Nope, the Laverne & Shirley theme song "Making Our Dreams Come True" was released in 1974 or so when the show ran. Not a 50s song. I didn't know that until a year ago when a local station started playing the really old rock & it was on regular rotation.
The version of this song used in the original TV show was credited as "The Charles Fox Singers" but was really the Ron Hicklin Singers. The Cowsills recorded and released a cover version of the song back in the day...
Wow , all those brothers & only one kid SISTER. If they had not had her they just would not have that incredible rounded out complete sound!!! What she adds just can not be put into words. Like trying to describe the taste of ice cream. Not enough words
if the tv show LAS launched careers then they were finished on THE LOVE BOAT. Great rendition of the song even after all these years.Family harmonies are never forgotten.
They pretty much started the family band thing. After them you had the Jacksons, the Osmonds and ofcourse the tv hit Partridge Family modeled after them. They were pioneers!
Eric Springer With the exception of David Cassidy, the real Cowsills' voices were far better I'm guess the Cowsills didn't want to do it. They may have been offered. Acting is far different from singing. compared to singing, screen acting is a pain in the butt really
BroccoliBeefed Respect your opinion; we all have favorite voices. But, in my mind, Bill, another Cowsill brother and the original lead singer on Indian Lake, The Rain, the Park....., was the voice, and better (in my opinion) than Cassidy. Also, the Cowsills were going to be in the Partridge Family show, but when mama Cowsill was replaced by Shirley Jones, mentally deranged papa Cowsill got his feelings hurt and killed the deal.....for all the family. Too bad.
Yes, it was a fun lineup, though I recall the afternoon broadcast of Love American Style, right after Gilligan's Island. After L.A.S. came Get Smart then Wild Wild West. Man, they do not make TV shows like they did back in the 70's.
I always liked the Cowsills' version of this song than the one that replaced it a year later on the tv show of the same name. I always wondered why they changed it, too.
The documentary is on Amazon Prime and it's good. Doesn't really get into this particular song though which is kind of odd because for me it's the most memorable.
they need too be in the rock n roll hall of fame!
Robin Stelmach yes they do. They were so talented.
are you insane?
@@anotherjoshua no, actually they need to be in the rock and roll hall of fame

Love The Cowsills! So glad happy to see them preform on You Tube videos ! Wish I could see them in person !
My God they sound great!
I have always loved their original version over the other one.
Love it, miss the late 60s as a young teenager.
"Love American Style".....was a great show.
I remember loving this theme song and the show, and recall becoming very angry when they stopped using the Cowsills version.
Jeeeeez........best memories ever.....love their voices in harmony, I have a tear in my eye.
They sound just as good as they did back in the day!!!
I used sing this song as a kid !!! Loves the show !!!❤
I've loved Susan since 1967! I could watch her sing this all nite long.

I love this family.

Originally sung by the Cowsills. Also, great show. Im on the 1st time machine back to the 60s and 70s
Oh my, I am transported to Saturday nights in the 6th and 7th grade. What a feeling! ❤️
I remember that Friday night lineup. My two brothers used to get out of work at 9:30 pm and bring home pizza just in time for LAS.

They still sound great. Susan is still cute as ever.
Love them all so beautiful xxx
sigh...many memories of this Song and the TV Show....wonderful song!
i love this music and this band!!!!
They have a good stage presence
Susan ! Loved you in '67 (8th grade - 14 years old) Love you now !
Great song from a fantastic group with alot of talent and thanks for posting this wonderful song here for us all to listen to.
There's never been anything like this at Epcot when I'm there.
I loved this song for the shows intro. I had no clue that the group singing it was the basis for the Partridge Family that came on 2 hours earlier.
Susan Cowsill just needs a big hug. Love her.
LOVE how Susan sways to the music and the way her dress blows in the wind.
Me too
This is great! LAS launched so many careers and the pilot of "Happy Days" was originally an episode of the show...amazing...
I'd forgotten that.

Ryan does a great job on keyboards, but I liked Paul too!!

Can still see Susan Cowsill in New Orleans.........she is great during French Quarter Festival
Awesome.

this family was the inspiration for the Partridge Family
They should have just hired the REAL family to do "The Partridge Family"
I have to agree with that, I bet it would have gone over well

they would have nailed it! they just didn't wanna!
They did the theme for the show the first season.. After the Cowsills the Charles Fox Singers did the theme.
💖 when music was happy 💖
Damn, they sound good.
Susan is a hottie.
Yes, it was a fun lineup, though I recall the afternoon broadcast of Love American Style, right after Gilligan's Island. After L.A.S. came Get Smart then Wild Wild West. Man, they do not make TV shows like they did back in the 70's.
the good old days before the nightmares of today
so nice..around january 2021, the nightmare began..so sad.
TV is shit now, this was a great song and a great show.
Damn, Susan looks good.
Indeed!
Susan has ALWAYS been the coolest.
Kim Dopp yep, she's hot.
I always preferred their version of this theme!
I always liked the Cowsills' version of this song than the one that replaced it a year later on the tv show of the same name. I always wondered why they changed it, too.
ProudKansan08 I read that they used session recording to avoid paying royalties to Cowsills.
@@thomassullins8690 That's too bad. The dad had squandered all the money and the kids had to find their own way to make a living.
I find this to be damn entertaining.

I would faint if I ever heard a live band pop belt this out..
Susan's legs still killing me ❤
Is it just my opinion or is it a fact that in 2008 Susan Cowsill had the best pair of women's legs God ever created.
Holy s***
I didn't know they sang this song
So was this song released first then adopted for the TV show or was it written specifically for the show?
well at least epcot has their finger on the pulse of the music of the moment.
Did they do the theme to the tv show?
Yes, the first year it was the Cowsill's the other four was the Charlie Fox singers.
Only three left ?
These 3 plus John, who plays the drums for The Beach Boys.
I can't tell if they got their teeth fixed yet...lol
where's the mom
By this time of this recording, she had pasted.
