- Extremely rare home movie footage of "Swamp Thing" filmed on the 1993 Mark Burgess & the Sons of God "Zima Junction" tour in Germany.
www.stereohands...
In the early 1990s a few years after THE CHAMELEONS and THE SUN AND THE MOON had gone their separate ways, Mark Burgess was determined to find the right musicians to go out and tour Europe, USA and the UK one last time playing mostly CHAMELEONS material.
The reaction from the German audience at the end of this classic live set opener speaks for itself......
MARK BURGESS (vocals & bass)
NEIL DWERRYHOUSE (space echo guitars)
YVES ALTANA (guitars)
JOHN LEVER ( drums)
p.s the master copy of this is in sync!!!
No doubt with this being youtube it will play slightly out of sync.
That Riff is from another world holy shit
You know, not enough Chameleon fans comment about how amazing Mark's voice is!!! He sounds just as powerful live as he does on his recordings. Hardly EVER misses a note or sings out of tune --- which can happen during a live performance if the singer can't hear himself too well. I mean, Marks voice always sends chills up my spine.
@Something Real1119: I agree. I've always thought that too. Deserves to be much better known.
Agree!
Even with chewing gum he sings like a God
I wish I knew more people who loved the Chameleons as much as I do
This is why RUclips is so great. Years and years later you can experience something you’d missed years earlier. Swamp Thing has been a favorite since the late ‘80s!
Stunning version. John Lever - completely frictionless. Brilliant stuff.
I saw this show in Detroit, and it was SO epic it literally changed my life. After the show I had the priviledge of talking to Mark and John for over 2 hours.
They were so gracious and kind and giving to all of (us) fans. I think the only way I'd top this night would be talking to Bowie for 2 hours :-D
Swamp Thing by The Chameleons is the greatest song ever made
My library used to hire records. This one is the first I rented aged 14. It changed my life. Thanks Chameleons xxx
Apologies to Reg and Dave, but this might just be the definitive live recording captured of this unbeatable classic. It's basically flawless. Altana and Dwerryhouse absolutely kill it.
This is easily one of the highest quality live performances I've ever seen posted, regardless of the fact that it's one of my most loved songs of -All time-. Kudos.
mine too... of any band
Love those drums!
100%
Masterpiece of a song, masterpiece of a performance. Absolutely brilliant!
Love me some younger Mark Burgess here. Too amazing!
My favorite band ever!
'Half alive in a 9 to 5'.. Great line👍🏻
Checking out the band, and it's a fucking amazing song!, its hard to believe its a goth anthem, atleast in Toronto!!
One of favorite songs of all time!!
@pagepmeyer its a sad but at the same time a beautiful treasure that some of us know this band....love the fact that they are and always will be underground..
Beautiful song, great performance..
Quite simply, one of my all time heroes, and he's a City fan.
The sound is incredible!
I want to give this 100 stars
John Lever what a drummer 👌
Soooo friggin good. Remember hearing this for the first time from the Chameleons. Takes me back
Superbe morceau ! Pour moi ce fut un moment de ma vie (1987)...Merci Birdy
My favorite song, thank you.
Thanks so much for uploading this. I remember this tour very well. I have to say that I enjoyed these concerts much more than the shows on the reunion tour. Why? I still remember the last Chameleons concert in Bremen. I had the impression that no all members of the band were enjoying it. At least one of them had a clear lack of motivation and you could see that he was only in for the money. Very sad. They split again soon after that.
This is what I love.
Absolutely fantastic!!!
One of their best songs and fantastic live, thanks for posting
Mark is one of the columns of hercules. Beyond them we discovered the music.
Such an amazing band ..Mark wrote better songs than U2 back in the 80's . Awesome.
Yep I hear still hear it pumping out of the speakers at the club!!!!
can you hear the thunder?
brilliant!
No one doubts that Monkeyland's intro vocals are out of key, but it took me a while to realize that Mark had done this on purpose, as the backing melodies are moving around quite a bit. He was even able to repeat it the same way live. Look up live versions. Other than that, he's always pretty spot on in his typical head-first way. Great band all around!
Nothing better than this
LOVE you Mark Burgess!!
thanx for posting this mate...
I nearly forgot how good this band was!!
so great
Only Mark can hit all those notes whilst chewing gum.
Perfection
Mark I love you
Damn, I miss this band!

Epic song!
This song still gives me goose bumps! I discovered this song at my favorite club of all time, Manray in Boston, which sadly closed in 2005. Is there a good quality posting of the album version on RUclips per chance?
I agree :)
GOOD JOB
yesssssss
Fucking Wow!
This is god.
sorry dude, but you must be tone deaf. Burgess' voice is spot on and always has been.
Great version even without Reg and Dave. Brilliant song. Burgess is legend!
