TROUT FISHING Small Streams

- Trout fishing in small streams is a BLAST! I caught some nice Rainbow Trout and some Brook Trout on my favorite spinner, the Rooster Tail. I used both black and white Rooster Tails spinners in this video. I put on my chest waders which made navigating the small streams easier. Wading these small streams is a lot of fun and even if you do not catch fish, the beauty of nature is truly rewarding.

One of your best vids ever! The fish, the nature, the slo-mos, and bringing your dad along...that says it all!
Thanks man! I really appreciate that. Means a lot!
That small native rainbow was beautiful. So makes me want to get out and stream fish. Thanks.
This kind of fishing is incredible because even if you don’t catch fish you still have a lot of fun
I agree 100% .... Thanks for watching!
I love that you show the cool little oddities of nature, like a spring flowing out over a rock, or a flower growing out of a log in the middle of a river.
Thank you! I have kind of gotten away from that. I need to get back to putting some of that into my videos.
Healthy look'n "Rainbows & Brookie's " ! 😆👍
Beautiful shots.
Looks like western PA only place I ever trout fish. Love doing it
I'm going fishing near Robinson twp today for some trout!
Love your vids man!! Loved that you were fishing with your pops. I never had a chance to fish with mine, but have been fishing with my kids now and they love it. Thanks for the tips!

That sounds like a blast! Thank you! I've always wanted to fish Canada. I have some friends that go for Pike and Smallmouth. Tight lines!
Every time I watch your incredibly well filmed videos I think wow that water looks familiar. While I'm pretty sure I have fished some of the same exact pieces of water, it just occurred to me that most of the small streams in the national forest on both sides of the mountain have the same look and feel. It is basically what I consider heaven. I'm taking my two young sons out that way on a camping /fishing trip this week. I hope that love of the wilderness will take root with them like it did with me.
Thank you! Yes they do look very similar. Good luck on your trip. I'm sure it will take root. Keep fishing!
You HAVE to come finland lapland, here we have VERY BIG browntrouts on smal lakes and streams
Looks like a beautiful place to catch fish.
For sure! One of my favorites!
The trout killer enjoyed very first clip. Trout hittin small gear/rod gave me goose bumps
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks man!
Love it man. I do the same thing. So much fun in creeks you can easily walk across if you get snaged. Haha
Absolutely! I hate losing lures. Thanks for watching!
Wow so picturesque!
Awesome, heading to Williams River this morning

Can't beat light tackle while fishing for trout amazing action and awesome video.

Thank you!
nice hunt was a nice video congratulations👍🎣
Very good
Got it...thanks for a fine explanation !
haha no prob man. I was wondering how my feedback was showing as an emojii / symbol lol
What size lure do you use for small shallow streams like this? I found mine sank to the bottom as soon as i got it cast and snagged on everything this afternoon
1/16 oz or 1/8 oz
The 2nd spot was beautiful
For sure!
Nice video
How beauty it is! That fish! That view! I wish I could be there! ....cheers from Poland!:)

I'm new to fishing and I passed up a spot like this recently! I really dropped the ball I guess!
Nice greathings from Poland i wish my Waters So fishfull
Thanks!
Im thinking to get spinning rod for small trout streams similar to this. What lure weight range would you recommend?
Great video and footage! Couple questions if you don't mind: Are you sight fishing when casting? Seems many casts shown are downstream rather than upstream...did it just work out that way here or do you typically cast upstream or across with inline spinners? Thx again!!
I wasn't sight fishing. I almost always cast downstream and across the stream and bring it back across. That way, I don't have to reel fast and the current of the stream makes the spinner spin very easily and fast. Casting down stream I can fish "slower" and keep the spinner in the strike zone for a longer period of time. The current of the stream and the resistance against the spinner, I can keep the spinner in the strike zone and "steer" it with my rod. Sometimes I don't even have to reel because the current of the stream holds the spinner in the middle of the water column and I just use my rod to steer and move the spinner. I do know A LOT of people that cast upstream and bring it down because the Trout do face upstream. I just don't like it very much because you have to reel very fast depending on the flow/current of the stream. If you are fishing a very slow moving stream/river casting upstream would work well. Just my opinion. Hope that helps.
I've thought the same thing Fish Hawk. I do that as well when targeting bass with Senkos...I seem to get more hits and hooksets.
That's great! I love bass fishing with senkos
All that healthy food
Pretty catches!
Thanks!
Your welcome!
Got em!!!!
Is it best to cast against or with the current?
Thanks for the reply. I’m thinking under $50.00 if that is a good range.
I would check out the Pflueger President. You should be able to get one for right around $50 depending one what size you get. Also, a little cheaper reel that I use is the Okuma Stratus V. But it's only available at Dick's Sporting Goods. I own 4 of them. Haven't had any issues. They have 8+1 bearings. Very smooth reel. They are on sale right now too. www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/okuma-stratus-v-spinning-reel-15okuustrtsv10spnree/15okuustrtsv10spnree
Those streams are holding a lot of trout. Are there a lot of public access streams to fish?
Yeah, there are a lot of public access streams in West Virginia =] Thanks for watching!
awesome vids keep it up
Thank you!
Great video!
Thank you!
reminds me of the shohola creek , lol.
I LOVE BROOKIES AWSOME VID BRO
Thanks man! They're a lot of fun!
Awesome vid
Thanks man!
Grew up fishing streams with night crawlers. Most streams now you can only fish with artificial lures. What spinners do the trout prefer? Need to get back out on the streams but not to good with flies! 😎🤙
My favorites are: Rooster Tail, Panther Martin, Mepps and Joe's Flies. I like using 1/16 oz or 1/8 oz for small streams.
Panther Martin! Always works. Just use something small.
Stream fishing with Rooster Tails! That is how we dooz it out West here (Oregon). Are these streams in WV? Nice looking streams. Nice trout too! Little holes behind big rocks and pools below rapids/falls are perfect for Rooster Tails or Panther Martins.
Yes, West Virginia. I would have to agree. I really enjoy the streams we have. I bet Oregon has some nice fishing spots as well!
Fish Hawk Ummm... you have no idea. You may not wanna go back home!
haha that's what I was afraid of! I've always heard good things about Oregon fishing. Maybe I will be able to try it out someday.
looks A lot like Pennsylvania
James Mullis it's West Virginia. I haven't Trout fished in PA yet but I really want to. Thanks for watching!
Which Type Of
lure
U have Used In This Video..?
How do you keep your lure down in those fast moving waters? Or does it not matter if it comes to the top?
keep rod tip down and use a heavier spinner. if you cast upstream and reel it back downstream it is easier to keep it down.
Nice video 👍🏻
What size are you using?
I like the 1/16
I was using the 1/8. I pretty much always use the 1/8 or 1/16. Thanks for watching!
I always want to go out and fish when I see these but then I catch nothing lmao
don't give up :)
I could trout fish for the rest of my life
I plan on it!
tell me about ur rod and the material u use in hooks please
I am new to fishing in rivers and streams, what are you using to attach your net to yourself in the video?
it has an elastic cord that I wrap around my waist pack. It's a long cord and of course it is stretchy so it works great.
What reel do you recommend for trout fishing lakes & river, stream. A good all around so don’t have to invest a lot of money in reels. How many bearings should I be looking for. New subscriber 👍🏻
What price range are you looking at? Thanks for subscribing!
Sick by bro
Curious, do you have GoPro on hat or chest. I know when using hat mount hard to tell the angle to shoot at.. I trout fish in WV, nice shots
Chest mount. It's much more steady. That's cool. What part of WV?

Drizzle me shizzle bizzle.
This is so awesome fishing man. What stream are you fishing. I usually fish the cranberry and the elk and occasionally the cherry.
Trout Run. I've fished the Cranberry a couple times. We usually hike up and camp for the weekend. I heard the Cherry and Elk are great fishing. Thanks for watching!
Fish Hawk no problem. Very great content, keep it coming, I love watching someone native to WV put content on here. I subbed and notifications are on :)
I really appreciate it! I'll keep the content coming!
Fish Hawk You should try Waites run for a video...
I fish streams this big every day 😂
Nice! What state?
Pennsylvania
Nice! I'm in West Virginia. Not too far from PA
Nice catches! Enjoyed your video and I subscribed! Quick question-what size did you use for the white and black rooster tail spinner in your video? I am new at this and want to purchase the correct size. There is a small stream near where I live, similar size to the stream in your video. Before purchasing the wrong size, I figured asking. Please help!
I like 1/8 oz rooster tail spinners.
Fish Hawk thank you so much for taking your time to respond. It says a lot about you.
Cool video I like the b roll and the music in the beginning where do you get your music at?
Thank you! I use the RUclips audio library and the GoPro website.
Awesome vid pard!
Thanks man!

Nice video you have a new subscriber!
Thank you!
We're done live
Austin Bentley ?
hey what editor do you youse it would help me out a lot
Movavi
What bait do you use for these smaller streams?
Rooster Tail spinners, Panther Martin spinners, Trout Magents.
why are you casting the lure downstream? backwards
You're about the 10th person that has asked that. I have a video coming out this Friday and in that video I go over why I cast downstream sometimes. I hope you watch it!
But did you get him?
lol get who?
You need to loosen your Dragon up on your own spinning reel
👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌
Im new to this.. How is it you dont get snagged.
lots of practice. I still get snagged sometimes. You just have to adjust the speed you are reeling and keep your rod tip up.
Spent 2 hours yesterday in a stream like this one in MOCO.. Nothing!!!!!
Dangggg. That's how it goes sometimes. Keep trying. Don't give up :)
I noticed you were fishing downstream, most "rule books say, fish up stream so the fish are less likely to see you...any feedback for me on this ?
Definitely. They do say that. I prefer to fish downstream. The reason is because when I am using a spinner I can cast downstream and work it back across the stream. I can keep that spinner in the strike zone a lot longer. I can also bring the spinner right by their face and keep it there. If you fish upstream and cast upstream, the current of the stream is going to wash your spinner back to you very quickly. When I fish streams with a lot of fast moving water I like fishing downstream because of that. But if you are fishing still water it is just as easy to fish upstream because the current will not wash your spinner away. Also, when the water is moving quickly I don't think the Trout can see you very easily because the surface of the water is choppy or rough. If the water is still and flat on top, the Trout will definitely see you. I have always fished downstream and have caught a decent amount of Trout. It works for me but maybe not everyone. Also, these are stocked Trout so I'm not sure that they get spooked as easily as native or wild Trout. When I fish for native Brook Trout I try to fish upstream because they are much more aware of their surroundings. This is a long reply. I hope this helps. If you have any more questions I will do my best to help you out.
I deleted my "too quick reply"..hanks again and I'm now subscribed !
That rule mainly applies to fly fishing. When using a spinner it’s usually best to bring it up the current so that it has better action.
Thanks Julius!
Is that paddy run?
No. I have fished Paddy Run one time though. There were hundreds of dead Trout washed up on the bank. Not sure what happened. It was really weird.
Hi cool vid thanks for that what kind of lure did you use?
Thanks! I used Rooster Tail spinners.
Where do you base your fishing
West Virginia
You should do some on Montana
What rod and reel is that
Gander Mtn Vortex rod. Abu Garcia Cardinal SX10 reel. Thanks for watching!
Is there a reason why you dont keep them?
I actually did keep them in this video. I rarely keep them but when I fish with Dad we usually keep them because my Mom and Dad love eating Trout.
What kind of rod are you using? Thanks
It is a Gander Mountain Vortex rod.
Ok nobody asking for exact location...but giving us a state and county...wouldn't be giving up any secrets
