Cocktails & Corals: Training Coastal Communities to Rebuild Reefs

Ocean First hosted Krista Shoe, the Mother of Corals, for a virtual social on July 23, 2020.
Krista Shoe has built 5 artificial reefs in Bocas del Toro, Panama in collaboration with Caribbean Coral Restoration.
International demand convinced Krista to open Mother of Corals, a nonprofit organization, to teach coastal communities how to restore their own reefs and share this knowledge globally.
Corals are animals that live in colonies and have a symbiotic relationship with the algae that feed them. During this social, Krista will explain the problems corals are experiencing, what the causes are, and why we care. She'll also go into detail about artificial reefs, what they are, the economic and sustainability impacts, and why they're a solution.
