ok, but Sherri was a stranger to her. John was her husband and he goes on vacay with this woman? "They had a happy marriage" I strongly disagree with this statement. He ignored her concerns and slept with the woman who was scaring her. I don't believe he was not involved at all. That's some bullshit. First of all, there is no telling at what time she was killed. Second of all, he did not have to murder her himself to be involved.

LiwiaGoszynska Yes! This is what I think too! There’s no way I would be 100% happy in my marriage if my fiancée had slept with the woman who was threatening me, all to give her “closure” ?! What scum! He may have not been the one to kill his wife directly, but her blood is on his hands for sure. He should have stopped that psychotic woman and protected his wife.

He had to find out thru the police dept. and when he did call John to find out what was goin on John hung up on him!🤔 Shady as hell imo! He definitely is hiding something! So sad😞 Scary when you cant even trust the one person you vowed your whole life to😳🤭👎😞

angel emberson I know! I hate stories like this where the person who should have been protecting their loved one doesn’t! I wish Sherri hadn’t gone through with the marriage and had instead found someone who wouldn’t dream of entertaining a psycho thot from his past. Also, how did Stephanie know that Sherri had stayed home on that particular day? This story is a reminder that crazy exes aren’t just annoying, they can actually be dangerous sometimes.

I also have a suspicion that John and Stephanie had a more serious relationship than he let on, he probably tried to downplay it. That would explain why she reached out to his mother and was so intensely jealous.

I seriously think this is rubbish many women have a history of doing things like this, this is where the term bunny boiler comes from. John takes no responsibility whatsoever stop trying to pass blame because you sympathise with the woman and prefer to say the guy is a villain. He did nothing wrong,. Even if he had played her, she has no right to kill his wife, then you expect him to take the blame. Stop, leave this man alone.

@@rocroca7459 Totally agree that she is the primary one at fault, but the fact remains that he played the wrong person. He either liked the sex, or the attention, or who knows what, because to me Stephanie is a pooch but who knows, maybe she was a freak in bed. I don't think he was in on it, I don't think he plotted with her to kill his wife, nothing like that. But I DO think he truly messed up and led her on, and this was a consequence of doing so. No matter what, Stephanie is still the main person here who f'd up, that is just common sense. But if you ask me Travis Alexander did the same thing. Played Jodi off as a casual fling, whatever, to others or to other women but kept her on the line or treated her 1:1 as someone more serious. If you get the wrong woman mad, sometimes it can be deadly. Sadly this time it was.

That is the one thing I don't understand about him (and made me have little sympathy for him during the trial). His marriage certificate had also been stolen something a burglar would have no reason to steal. That should have made him suspicious enough about her to avoid her. I'm glad at least that he didn't give her the commitment that she wanted. It's bad enough that she got to have a great life.

    A couple of thoughts:
I don’t trust that John shouldn’t be looked at because he wasn’t ever a suspect when the investigation was completely corrupt. I haven’t seen an estimate time of death, so we don’t know if she actually died before John left for work. I don’t trust him to try to help Sherry after his lack of action previously.
You said they had a happy marriage but go on to describe a tense situation. Sherry found out her husband had cheated on her when they were engaged. He was ignoring her concerns for her safety. He was spending time with his ex. She was telling her father about it instead of him. That doesn’t sound like a perfectly, normal healthy relationship.
I believe Stephanie killed her, but I am not convinced John knew nothing about it. If he was unhappy and wanted an out he could have used Stephanie to fix the problem for him. She might still have feelings for him which is why she never told anyone that he knew.

Exactly. And that was within a marriage that only lasted a few months total. They should have been in the "honeymoon" stage, but it seems they had A LOT of problems. Way more problems in their few months than I've had in my 11 years of marriage. 🤣 That's not to say he is a murderer, but I for sure wouldn't ever paint this as a happy, unproblematic relationship. John seemed to be a lier, a cheater, and completely unconcerned with his wife's safety and emotional and mental wellbeing. I'd even go as far as to say his actions were pretty manipulative and potentially emotional abusive, due to the way he seemed to disregard her opinion and her needs and safety completely to the point she no longer felt it was safe to or worth the energy to confide in him when Stefanie was showing up and acting in a threatening way, going as far as to even use her police gun as a means to dominate her and scare her. That's a freaking MESS of a scenario if you ask me, and would have absolutely warranted police investigating John further. Not to mention the fact that Stefanie shouldn't have known Sheri would be home from work that day, and the neighbor said she saw both cars were gone and garage left open around 9am. So who knows how early that morning this actually took place. Seems Stefanie would have had to show up pretty soon after John had left for work that morning. Or is possible this happened even sooner than that. And how did Stefanie get to the home without neighbors noticing a cop car or other vehicle there? Did she park further away and walk to the house? How did she get in? Who drove Sheri's car away from the home and threw her purse and was that possible for one person to do alone without transferring any of Sheri's blood or DNA to her car and purse, all within the short time after John left for work and the neighbor saw the garage open and cars gone at 9am? Just too many questions and too much covered up and left not having been investigate.
I guess we'll never know what really happened or if John had a part in it or not, and that sucks either way you cut it. Either a guilty person is left free, or an innocent person will always carry this shadow of suspicion around with no way to prove his innocence. The police really fucked this one up pretty bad.

I think John had a part to play in this. Something just isn't right about it. How would Stephanie know Julie was at home and not at work? Unless Stephanie just decided to snoop on the empty house like a stalker or something looking through their stuff and Julie was just incredibly unlucky to be home on that particular day and not at work. Perhaps Stephanie was watching the house and saw John leave and got tired of waiting for Julie to leave? Or was it possible John and Stephanie had planned it and john rang Stephanie to tell her Julie was home.
Was it just a huge coincidence that Stephanie picked the one day Julie was sick in bed or was she told Julie was in bed?

This case has always frustrated me.
While I don't think John was involved in Sherry's murder at all, I I do believe he encouraged Stephanie, and made her think she meant more to him than she actually did. I think he lead her on, and made her think she had a chance, then acted like she is just crazy and obsessed with him. Don't get me wrong Stephanie was absolutely obsessed with him, and she is nuttier than a squirrel sh*t. Every video I've seen of her makes my skin crawl. She has a very creepy, cold stare, kind of like a shark. So if John is guilty of anything, it would just be for leading her on. The video of her interview is interesting to say the least. The best part is where you can see the exact moment she realizes they know it was her. Priceless!
I'm so happy Sherry finally got the justice she deserved, and she can finally rest in peace. As well as her dad and loved ones. They too finally have the answers they've been waiting for and deserve.

John was a lousy boyfriend and husband to make his poor wife Sherri deal with his demented unhinged "ex friend with benefits". This ex was JOHN's problem, not Sherri's but he either blindly ignored the problem (her coming around all the time) because he was lazy and didn't care how Sherri felt or more likely, he secretly enjoyed the attention of having his ex kind of "pine" over him. He didn't do this to Sherri, he didn't get her killed but in not protecting Sherri and putting a stop to this woman's "visits" makes him responsible for what happened to her. He should be ashamed

I think she went to the house to taunt his wife. She found the door open and crept up on her and in fright, his wife retaliated and they ended up in a scuffle. His wife must have been in a rage and the cop shot her. So delighted at injuring her she continued torturing her and then shot her again at point blank. The cop knowing her colleagues would never investigate, then tampered with the evidence, but she could not have known about the freezer. Gotcha you evil excuse for a human.

Sounds like you're blaming Sherri for her own murder. Stephanie Lazarus was off duty the day she entered Sherri's home. Stephanie brought her police weapon with her. I think Stephanie intended to do more than taunt Sherri. Stephanie Lazarus was ultimately convicted of first degree murder.

Another case that proves police departments cover their own, I'm not saying all however it happens a lot.
*_Justice is justice no matter what_*
John, he should've stuck with his wife, he should've understood her feelings and not make the situation worse.
Step watched John leave, believe she waited.
I'm happy Sherri got justice she deserved to have that justice.

Honestly, it is one of the most interesting cases you've covered so far, sooo tense. I couldn't help thinking that such an ending could never have happened in my country, which is corrupted to the bones. If it ever happened in Russia, a killer would be free for the rest of his or her life :(

In the UK I think they have police officer’s DNA on file for elimination from crime scenes, so if they did that if LA that would’ve saved a whole lotta time. I hate it when you hear the police covering up for other officers, like, if they did it do you really want to be working with them, and if not then no harm in investigating them.

Not sure how well-known this is outside the US- or even outside of California for that matter -but the LAPD of the 80s and 90s was renowned for its corruption. It still is, and likely was long before, but especially in this era. What’s amazing here really isn’t the complicity, but rather the fact that this case was ever pursued to the point of prosecution.

Sonia Poseidon you do but they are more then happy to take on people that are somewhat sociopathic. Usually very successful police officers who are high ranking don’t have the same level as empathy as others. I mean you either have to have no empathy or be able to detach yourself and disconnect from the trauma you see during your service. Police officers usually have to be very black and white and enjoy power. They would be less likely to hire someone who shows high sensitivity and prefer those who they know will probably have an emotional breakdown after a dozen of seriously sad cases
