If we're talking propaganda films, I prefer the 1940's racially insensitive batman.

I saw Momotaro Sacred Sailors a number of years ago, but there wasn't any subtitles, so it's the only Anime I've ever watched raw. Though I got the gist of what was happening because as you say it's not a complicated story.

Momotaro Sacred Sailors is one of my favorite black and white anime classic film of 1945. And you, BobSamurai, you need to do the review of Lycoris Recoil real soon.

I just watched this one a couple of weeks ago. I was expecting it to be animated like Astro Boy and Kimba, but I was pleased surprised.

3:36 Given that Goa was a Portuguese colony, and that the movie specifically mentions the size of his nose and that he's a merchant, I'm pretty sure it implies another group.

I might have to check this out. I'm a big animation history nut.
Also, I can't believe it was released in North America on Blu-ray, and by Funimation of all companies!

The parachute scenes are based on actual Japanese military operations.
Indonesia was a Dutch colony for 400 years.
Indonesians were part of the Dutch slave class.
When the Japanese army attacked the Dutch army, they carried out a parachute operation.
Around the middle of the war, the Japanese Empire decided to make Indonesia independent, trained the locals, and created the Indonesian Army.
After World War II, the Dutch reinvaded Indonesia and committed genocide.
However, the Indonesian Independence Army and 3,000 remaining Japanese troops fought the Dutch.
In this way, Indonesia won its independence.
The Dutch had invaded Indonesia while they were trying Japan for "crimes of aggression in Asia" at the Far East Military Tribunal.
Western countries, including the United States, severely punished Japan, but tolerated the actions of the Netherlands.
    Isn't this unfair?

Both the Dutch and Japanese were terrible for Indonesia. The Japanese were no better than the Dutch, and it could be argued that they were worse because of drastic wartime measures.

If this movie was released in the spring of 1945 that matches with the Japanese measures to defend the home islands from the Allied invasion planned for that fall: in April of 1945 school was cancelled for 7th through 12th grade and the children were brought into training for military support, and sometimes actually military, roles.
