Then they all go to the bar/pub together, sing songs, get drunk, and do lots of man hugs. Seen it SO many times, hic! Also, the British Army and the Royal Navy regularly have Rugby matches against each other and they're brutal, but again, they all go to the pub afterwards and 'sing Klingon songs of warriors and epic battles' :-)
sounds like they have a great time! :)
We had to play rugby at school from age 11, in the middle of winter... great fun 😂
It was like that when I played school rugby. You would often get stamped on or have your ear bitten in the scrum.
I had a friend who showed me films of old school rugby like this I was always amazed how some of these men got back up after being hit like they were . I played American football and got my bell rung several times , but never without padding ... and it still hurt like hell !! All respect to them !! Thanks for the video Amanda ! 😀
not wearing padding is absolutely mental haah
If follow up on a ball kicked over the try line you can score by either picking it and then touching it down, or by diving on the ball to 'ground it, under control'
Thank you so much for your comments, I appreciate you taking the time to explain
Rugby Union has changed lots of rules and one of the best sports in the world and I have great respect to Rugby players who risk their health for entertaining fans. Thanks for your reaction Amanda 😊
That's how Rugby used to be played when I played it at School....it's why a lot of us laugh at NFL with all the protection they wear 😅
i get that hha
very true
Rugby and Hockey at school...The only time you could legit hit a teacher. 😁
I'm a devotee of rugby since 1966. I don't laugh at American footballers wearing padding; it's their game. Laughing does not enhance my game one iota.
Hey Amanda! I am old enough to be your Grandfather, so I can say this without getting any nasty comments. I love to watch your videos, whether they are music, sport or anything else that surprises you about we Brits, I ALWAYS watch your clips on whatever you choose to put out here for our viewing because sometimes you open our eyes. You are a really open minded young lady and you do not pre judge what comes up in some of there clips. Keep up the good work......I am sure that we ALL love you. God bless you.
thanks so much Terry, i really appreciate that :))
@@AMANDARAEUK I once lived in New Jersey, (I was a director for the Liz Claiborne company). and in some of your clips you say just how certain things "passed over your head" when you first hit our shores, so it will no surprise to you that I felt the same on my introduction to the USA. I sincerely hope that you enjoy England as much as I enjoyed the USA......As the old saying goes "We are two nations divided by a common language" I do not know how long you have lived here, what I DO know however is that you have given a shedload of Brits a taste of your humour and adaptability. Good Luck in whatever you do. My best wishes. Terry.
You cannot stamp on, or rake a player with your studs, in a ruck anymore. It used to be regarded as 'rough justice' for someone 'laying on the wrong side' of the ruck to block access to the ball. It will get you in big trouble now.
Amanda . Most of that footage was 30 , 40 years old , some going back 50 years of the Welsh greats &British Lions but played to the rules of the time . all amature , Half time was 2 or 3 pints of beer and ciggeretes , after the game , a warm bath then in the Bar having a Beer or 5 with the other team sharing each others cuts and bruises . The game has evolved a lot from but played in the same sprit
that's how you recognised Rugby players outside the game....missing front teeth and cauliflower ears
haha that make sense
Don't forget the misshapen noses
The tackles where the ball carrier gets lifted off the ground and dropped onto they head is now banned. The situations were the guy on the ground is getting stamped on is called rucking the player and is also banned!
haha well thas probabyl a good thing?!
The one kicking it and scoring was JPR Williams for Wales. You can always kick in rugby but if it goes out without touching the floor you've made a mistake and the opposition get a throw in from where you kicked it. If you have a penalty you can kick it into touch on the full though and if you reach, you get the throw in. The worst injury I've seen is Chris Czekaj who snapped the top of his leg when loads of huge players where on top of him. Grim.
thank you for taking the time to explain
:)
Sorry forget my last message look for the Wales v England in 1987! The battle of Cardiff!
Off subject: just looked at your photos on instagram - what a beautiful woman, love the tattoos! You're a work of art.
Thanks so much, I really appreciate that :)
The red & orange reminds me of JPR Williams. IIRC one match, (NZ?) he got scraped by studs - left a gash on his face. Pulled off on a Blood substitution.
Trouble is JPR Williams was trained as an orthopedic surgeon. Got a shaving mirror & the thread from first aid to sew up his own face. They reversed the substitution.
what really?! thats insane
In those good ole days when we played, if a guy lay on the wrong side, it was legal to 'ruck' him out, was great, no ref interference. I lay on the wrong side once, they split me behind the ear rucking me, I knew what I was doing and deserved it. LOL 🤣🤣🤣
I wish you had seen the clip of JPR Williams getting studded and a gash opened in his face. He just walked off of the pitch , took a seat and had his dad sew his face up... Then went back on to play... ( I think it took around 30 stitches in several wounds).
As for personal injuries, I once had a heavy hit on my neck (Iwas fouled) . Couldn't breathe. Our trainer/coach trotted up, had a quick inspect, informed me I had displaced a disc between two vertebrae in my neck, he could feel the lump. He then slapped me on the back of my neck, twice, and I could breathe properly again. Then played on ... Well , I had to 'thank' the bugger who had fouled me.
I was 15 at the time , fifth year of secondary (high) school ...
All good fun...
Mind you , now in my late 60's I can feel all that collateral damage.
Player safety has come into the fore these days as players are fitter, faster and bigger than they were in the 60's, 70's and 80's...
that makes a lot of sense thgouh
Briefly showed Jonah Lomu the All Blacks legend. He decimated England in the 1995 World Cup. Everyone just bounced off him lol.
haha ive heard his name somewhere .. soiund so familiar
Was certainly some challenges going in there. You can actually get sent off in Rugby but don't think it happens as much as in Football.
ahh okay 👍
The kicking along the ground is perfectly legal and is known as "fly kicking" and is often sneered at by "old school" players as being " not proper Rugby". Personally I think whatever is legal to get that touchdown is totally fine! 😇😇😇
hah yeah of course, dangerous though
I've got a scarred lip from playing rugby, elbow to the face ripped the top half of my top lip ripped open.
Played on of course, whilst my twin brother had the exact same injury but went off.
that is nasty, hope that you are alright
@keancv I have a weird half smiling top lift so don't smile.
They refused my job title as a hit man for action man(uk) GI Joe (USA) because of it. Lol
ouch! that sounds awful, glad youre okay!
Hey Amanda, so the guy kicking the ball ahead, agreed difficult to see what happened, but so long as the ball is picked up and then 'touched down' to the ground, in hand, after the try line, then a try is scored. If you're lucky then it will bobble up just enough to be collected at pace.
ah thats interesing, thank you! :)
Why don’t you watch a video of the England ladies team v France played yesterday? Yes, LADIES!
i might do in another video :)
They used to say rugby was played by gentlemen for hooligans . Whereas soccer was played by hooligans for hooligans.
Both desiplines now have ladies teams so guess ifs been cleaned up a bit since my days in rugby, i used to play for richmond upon thames then Brighton in my youth.
Try royal navy field gun comptition hms excellent portsmouth. Its on youtube somewhere i guess.
I'll have a look for it :)
You need to check out the French prop Gerard Cholley who i reckon is probably the hardest man ever to have played the game. In one match, versus Scotland, he knocked four of the Scottish players out!
You should look at the masters vs students game in the film if.
Hi Amanda I played rugby in the late 70’s through the 80’s, player safety was not a priority. Now is a different game. You can kick forwards but not throw. He did get to the ball first and all he had to do was place pressure downwards on the ball to score. Love your choices and videos. Xxx
thanks so much Ian, :)))
Injuries are part and parcel from competing in sports, but contact sports like Rugby, you're taught how to tackle to hopefully avoid injury .. Much like in the NFL .. GO DOLPHINS !! .. However, in Rucks and Mauls, injuries do and can happen, Like stamping on an opponent .. unintentionally .. tho sometimes it IS intentional.
yeah thats fair enough, i get that... it just looks extra in rugby haah
You need to check out England v Wales from the 70's the battle of Cardiff!
👍
You'll notice that many of the clips are much older than your normal rugby videos. Most wasn't illegal then, "stomping" was known as rucking the man, there wasn't meant to be downward force but lateral. The old adage was if you weren't lying on the ball, you wouldn't have got rucked.
A lot was very much still putside the spirit of the old game
ah okay, thank you :) its amazing ot watch
The rugby I grew up with, my Brother played so sort of got used to it.. the rules have changed and player safety is taking centre stage now. Still love watching rugby to this day.. in my 70's I think the last football match I really watched was the World Cup in 1966.. so happy now I'm older rugby is televised more, my Sons played for a while too. many a cold wet muddy match on the side lines watching them...
ahah i bet, it must have been fun thoguth
At school I almost had my left ear torn off from a head clash in a scrim
well that sounds awful! lol
Love your reaction to old school 70’s and 80’s rugby Amanda 👍 There’s a reason many rugby players come with cauliflower ears and broken noses and that’s it ! Sadly, on those injuries, there’s also a reason every match sees certain paraplegics ex-players sitting pitched in wheelchairs having paid the price for their love of the sport. Keep up the good work. Great channel.
THank so much Andy, i really appreciate that :)
There's a well known anecdote of an international game more than a few decades ago, that was televised, and the camera picked up an enthusiastic call from the sidelines from one of the team's management.
" Kick ahead, Ireland, Kick ahead. Any f'ing head"
ouch!! lol
@@AMANDARAEUK 🤣
Basically Amanda, it's kick or carry forward ... & pass back
simple and easy
I would start crying 😂
lol!
In rugby, players respect eachother but the most respected is the ref,if you disrespect the ref,you are done.
i think thats great 👍
I HAD to play this at school on Wednesday afternoons, I used to call it 'pass the parcel with violent intentions'! I hated it, cos it disrupted my embroidery class.
thats a great name haha
Don't forget that rugby boots have studs on the soles. Usually aluminium!
wel that makes is worse ! haha
Oh this is just good old rugby, you should see the video when rugby players get aggressive, they knock the shit out of each other
haha so i've heard :)
The player in gold was not stomping on the player on the ground. He was rucking him out of the way, or more colloquially giving him a good slippering.
Now illegal, but even back in the day illegal if you stamped on the head or a knee, elbow or similar.
They have cleaned up a lot of the laws to make it safer for the players, and it’s worth watching a modern game - a lot of what you saw is just not there are more. But there are still big, strong men and women hurtling into each other at speed, and injuries are common.
ah thank you, i didnt realise that :)
Lol.
Watch 14 minutes of epic rugby fights and brawls.
ill check it out :) thanks!
Amanda I love your voice and smile. You are VERY Beautiful 😍
I went to watch a fight once. And Rugby broke out LOL
lol!!! 😂☺️
amanda its called rfu rugby football union
👍
Rugby - a game played with odd shaped balls
lol!
My girlfriend at college used to come and watch me getting out of bed the day after a game as I was a mass of bruises and stud marks from getting a good raking!
lol i believe that !
we put it all on the pitch
The headgear is just to keep the ears being ripped off in the scrum, it's not padded.
👍
I'm an American that was 20 when I started playing Rugby way back in 72.
That wasn't 'stomping', it was stepping. At that time, by Law you were not allowed to be off your feet anywhere near a tackle. By Law you were required to get away from the tackle area and failing to do so would get you penalized. The people on their feet had every right to be there. Rugby was a game played on your feet and so, if you're on the ground near the ball you were not a player, you were ground.
Players had no interest in tackling someone to the ground. What you wanted to do was more akin to a mugging. Hold them up and take the ball away. Tackling was a last resort option. When you did take someone to the ground you either got away as fast as possible or did your best to cover all the tender bits you could.
The thing is, if your team was winning the battle in the tackle area, the people stepping on you were your own team.
Now, actually stomping someone (intentionally) was seriously looked down upon.
That wasn't horrendous. That was fun.
Oh, the headgear (scrum cap) has nothing do do with concussions. It's to protect your ears. Some positions are prone to cauliflower ears. Why people not playing those positions wear them I haven't a clue. Perhaps, since they are backs, they want to keep their hair neat.
thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions, i really aprpecaite it :)
The silkiest smoothest voice on t’internet ❤
thank you :)
@@AMANDARAEUK
Ever thought of whispered asmr. Got a feeling you’d be good at it! 👍
As long as the ball, after being kicked forwared, is then not past forward after being picked up from the pitch.
thanks Neil
You can kick it forward.
Great vid, the stomping is because the player on the ground is on the wrong side, he is preventing, the Yellow shirts getting to the ball, however the stomping is now illegal BUT a player going on the wrong side is more strictly goverened.
ah right that makes more sense
These are some seriously hard blokes. If you get the chance check out Australian Rules Football. They really are hard lads. Not sure of the rules but an interesting watch
ill have a look :) i dont think ive ever watched it
Rugby has evolved like all things and there is great emphasis on player safety. But it is still a hard physical game and of course the greatest game in the world! I confess a slight bias!
its always so fun to watch, you never know whats going to happen
Do you watch the Red Roses? They just took a triple Grand Slam either a six nations run of 29 games undefeated!
Amanda could you see the US NFL players playing this.
nope! haha
This is how I used to play rugby with no special softly softly rules and if one got hurt it really did hurt too. Even at school when playing there was always a situation where at least someone took a trip to the A & E afterwards some were taken there in an ambulance
In fact my Rugby teacher actually told us to wear steel studded rugby boots so when in the scrum he said to gain advantage then slide ones boot down your opponents shin and stomp on the top of their instep. The ref can't see what a hooker is doing from outside the scrum so can't foul the player. He also said about a rather intimate tip to gain control of the ball and he wasn't talking about the rugby ball either. It basically made the opposing hooker not even trying to go for the rugby ball in the scrum
well thats a bit scary haha
"I dinna realise you could kick id" I love that every video you are slowly mutating you accent to English.
Keep it up, love it.
loL! i dont even realise
@@AMANDARAEUK
Also it appears your spelling is turning English (no zed as in the American spelling).
Amanda, there's a top-flight rugby player who had his scrotum ripped-open and played on with one ball hanging out of his body. He did, however, have it stitched back in.
that was Wayne Shelford, who also had his 4 front teeth kicked out at the same time. he had his ballbag stitched up on the sideline and went back on to play. he was finally taken off the field late in the second half, after getting a knock to the head that concussed him and knocked him out.
@@jeanlongsden1696 That's right, couldn't remember his name. I played in Wales at school, they were pretty serious about their rugby in those days.
@@fishtigua I grew up in the 70's and I remember that Gareth Edwards was the best player and took Wales to the top of international Rugby tournaments.
@@jeanlongsden1696 Gareth Edwards came to our school to train us. He had retired and had a bit of a beer-belly. Still twice as fast as our backs.
what a guy!! thats absoluteyly crazy haha
We had a nickname for Rugby - Legalised thuggery !!
lol!
2nd game I played I was at tight head prop and the guy I was against was a 6’5” brick building…. I didn’t get into position quick enough and he hit head first straight into my sternum.. broke it with a hairline fracture that kept me out of the game for 4 months…. Went straight back to playing again as soon as I could…. In those times if you wanted to be in the team you played sometimes with injuries…. I was concussed twice while playing as well so it was different then…. But yeah when you are in a ruck (pile up of the forward players) you learned quickly to get yourself out or you were going to get in a pile up…. It’s a fun game….
That hairline fracture clearly affected your ability to punctuate like a normal human being.
Maybe look up the infamous '99' call.
okay 👍👍
The guy touched it down. Just quick
Our school coach... Don't kick the ball it's not football! 😅😅
Also it's rougher than American football also no pads or constant time outs!
Rugby remorseless violence on the pitch well calm crowds watching... Football played by premadonnas gently while their fans create violence (you know who you are)
A lot of these moves are actually against the rules and would be considered dangerous, as well as penalised.
ah fair enough!
Amanda ... did you never go and watch the Siam Cup? which is between Jersey Vs Guernsey (Beans Vs Donkeys), when you lived here.
If you were on the wrong side of the ruck, your back was going to get raked.
that sounds awful !
You should check out buck shelford for tough barstards he was old school 👍
Please do a MotoGP / superbikes one
ill have a look :)
Look at the training you can loose fingers on this. Can be brutal.
Gaelic football
Guys in your next RUGBY REACTION please respect Rob Burrows (RIP)
Hi Amanda, the point of using your feet, is that you are not allowed to use your hands in a ruck, so when you see players stomping on other players, that was legal in the day, and if you were caught on the wrong side of a ruck you expected to feel some studs.
You are allowed to kick the ball forwards in rugby, but the ball must not come forward from the hands....
thanks very much for clarifying that :)
@@AMANDARAEUK all they were trying to do was get the other player out of the way to get to the ball..... looks brutal, was in fact, still have stud marks on my back 20 something years on..... but that was the rules
well, a lot of those games are very old games, and a lot of that tackling is illegal today. You'll be immediately sent off the field. I remember the times when stomping on players and all that biz was happening. You wouldn't think to do that today.
BRUTAL😎
haa i thought so
u can't forward pass but kick is ok
New subscriber here. I just wanted to take the time to highly recommend that you go down the rabbit hole with mr ballen videos. His youtube channel is called Mr Ballen. He says he is a former navy seal turned storyteller. Every single video hes ever posted are all true stories told by mr ballen himself in story format. Many of these true stories are insane and i think its great to react to. Its up to you but i definitely recommend it.
Thanks so much for recommending him, i will absolutely check out his channel :) I hope you have a lovely dya
@@AMANDARAEUK No problem! You too darlin!
Did you say ""That's mental" and "Oh my days"? You are a Brit for sure now Amanda!
lol! :)
can you do some reactions on springbok highlights plz?
also do you watch rugby in england?
yeah ill see if i can find a good video :)
❤ 😊 ❤ 😊 ❤ 😊 ❤ 😊 ❤
:))
Do a video with just the skills and speed from the game.
ill have a look for one :)
Good god Amanda is gorgeous.
League is harder, i played union but too scared to play league lol
Amanda I'm not sure if you know but they used to have aluminium studs and they used to use them to stomp on people's head ouch it put me off and not sure at some points it seemed like the audio kept going in your video
ouch! i can see why they would have done away with them hah
Fantastic video 😮 scary
Thank you! :))
Amanda hope that you where not too traumatised by what you watched
hah nope im good :)
But we could hack our ale 🍺
👍
Your British accent is starting to slip in. LOL.
lol
Those aren't rugby hooligans...we called them players back in the day. You don't get many hooligans in rugby.
ive actually heard that before
A real game played by real men , Unlike premier league football ⚽️.
American football players would not stand a chance against these guys .
I'm not a rugby sort, but why go to a socer match for a puch up when you can go to rugby instead with impunity added in?
No! No! You will not start playing Rugby.🧸
lol!!
Not sure I like the terms ‘rugby hooligans’. Old skool yes. But they weren’t hooligans. Just a very rough sport. Glad for the reforms. Tempers flared. Players are more restrained. But you get no or very little disrespect towards the referee. All rather civilised really. Hooliganism is something g I associate with the very worst days of football (soccer) support: in town, on public transport. At one time soccer hooliganism was Britain’s most shameful export. You can kick forward, an important part of the tactical game. It was original Rugby Football with soccer called Association Football.
thansk so much! i appreciate you taking the time to reply
get a try at all costs
👍👍
Rugby is rough lol ill never play it lol
Hello Amanda, that doesn't look like much fun ! Are you tempted to play the game ?
haha not at all ! :)
@@AMANDARAEUK I think that's sensible. There must be better things to do than get stamped on while lying in the mud.
Hola heheh
Not sure why it's called Rugby Hooligans just straight forward old fashioned rugby 🏉 before health and safety went to far 🙄
