Thanks for these videos. As a long time Lions fan it is pretty amazing to see how much this defence has improved since Campbell’s hiring. Yes, the talent level has improved immensely, but most of the guys starting or playing a lot of snaps on defence now, were not highly rated outside of Hutch, Campbell, Branch and Sutton. Cominsky, Buggs/Benito Jones, Anzalone, and Charles Harris, were all cast offs from other teams, and Jacobs, Melifonwu, Walker, Rodriguez, and Barnes were all drafted in the third round or later. Amazing to me how Holmes acquired these guys so quickly and Campbell, Glenn and company have coached them up as well. This unit is currently missing their two starting Safeties, and possibly their best CB (Moseley) these last two weeks. Can’t wait to see Moseley and Kerby Joseph on the field hopefully against Carolina.
As a part-time critic of Aaron Glenn, this was a masterpiece! He game-planned for the team in front of him. I welcome all criticism of my previous stance if AG brings this each game win or lose.
It’s wild the lack of common sense people use when criticizing people. The first two seasons was an extreme lack of talent and injuries. Belichick would have struggled under those conditions. The issue AG had is Ben Johnson had the offense running at a pace we had never seen here. That was the problem.
@@adgee5401 except that's not true. Last year they were in the running for one of the worst defenses of all time until Aubrey Pleasant got fired then they got their head out of their ass. There were no major people returning from injury or no new additions to the team.
Sorry Aaron, what you just said is wrong. The Lions played without R. Okwara, C. Harris, J. Jacobs, and T. Walker for most of last year and had new players at every position except for Alim and Anzalone. It took some time for Glenn to sort out who to play and how to use them. By the end of 2022 that defence was much better than the 2021 unit. The 2023 defence has a whole new secondary, but the D Line and LBs have all been with the Lions for at least one year …… except for Jack Campbell. I expect the Lions D to be in the top eight of the NFL by the end of the year.
Coach, I've been following you since your first Lions video! I would appreciate a deeper look at Chase Lucas and his special teams play. His impact is jaw dropping! His play in the first half alone is game ball worthy.
Hutch has been held so many times this year. I know holding happens on nearly every play in every game, but it’s getting ridiculous how blatant and right in the open it is.
A fan texted 97.1 (my local folks will know I’m legit) about Jerry Jacob’s getting lucky on the tipped interception. Thank you for pointing out people doing their job. If Jacobs isn’t where he’s supposed to be, he doesn’t get to use the tip drill. I hate what stats and fantasy football has done to the game. People are killing Gibbs because he hasn’t hit the big play yet, but not many people are talking about his impact to winning. He has often turned long yardage situations into first downs or third and shorts. That keeps chains moving and leads to points which leads to wins. But because it isn’t a highlight, people are calling him a bust. It’s wild in this stats driven era of football.
Refs have been screwing Hutch all season. If they called it fair, our opponents would either be backed up to their goal line all game through penalties or Hutch would by far lead the league in sacks. Let the star play naturally and fair and we will see him clearly in the S-tier of pass rushers.
Detroit is my only team, but if you watched Dallas, SF, PIT, or CLE games you’d see that any elite edge rusher is held almost every play. That’s just part of having a great edge guy, sucks but it’s far from just Detroit getting screwed
take a shot every time all 22 says "if you ask me" lol I'm just giving you a hard time- thank you for the break down for a fan who is very new to the sport. I appreciate the no-frills approach to the videos.
Emmanuel Moseley should be able to start playing with tge Carolina game. And Julian okwara is eligible to return from IR for the Carolina game. Julian had a 3 sack preseason game. I want to see Harris and Julian on the edge and Hutchinson and alim inside. That would be nasty along with the offense having jamo available with no restrictions for Carolina
Not in the scope of this video, however the question commonly asked about these Brand New Lions is are they Super Bowl contenders? Answering yes to these two questions (to me) results in the answer "Yes, they are SB contenders": First, are they on pace to make the playoffs? Second, CAN they beat anyone they play (not WILL they, but CAN they)? Both answers are yes. Think about the bad teams. Chicago, Denver, Washington, Carolina, etc. Answer to first question is no for all of them, so they are automatically disqualified. Mid teams like Houston, Tampa Bay, Dallas, Arizona, New England. Answer to first question is maybe (not projected locks, but not mathematically disqualified) and answer to second question is probably not if both teams are healthy. First place teams like Detroit, SF, KC, Miami, Philly, etc.: Both answers are yes. Sure within this top tier of teams, there appears to be some separation from SF, Miami and the rest. COULD Detroit beat either of them? If they play their A-game, they can win against any team in the league (the refs also have to let Hutch cook). Debate?
The games have to be played. Nobody is anything, except for their W/L record. Remember Detroit 1-6 last year & folks (you, too, perhaps) counted them totally OUT. Yes, they were OUT--not by much though--made a serious run for it.
He led the team in tackles yet was injured for a good portion of the game. He's an absolute beast and of one the major reasons this defense has improved so much this year.
I know it's early but if Detroit can continue to play like this & win the next 2 games they could have the inside track to a bye wk. If you look at Philly's, San Fran, Dallas, Seattle shedules, which any of those teams can beat one another & all have to play ea other this year. So those games are all a potential lose for any of those teams whereas the Lions only play Dallas and played Seattle. And I also think that even the AFC teams that they play this year should be in their favor whereas the other mentioned NFC powerhouse teams play most of the AFC powerhouses (Miami, Buffalo, KC, Cleveland, Cinci) this yr. But lions have to stay healthy and consistent and i think that the lions are just really starting to gel.
Jammo back; ...reads the field, sends it back even more on his side of the field. Lions have yet to put up a decent 4 quaters of offense. Not even close!! Wait till it happens... 46, 52, 54, 57 points are the result. Goff 5 tchdwn. no picks.. gibb/Montgomery 253 comb yards. Then Detroit will be playing PAR for the course!! 57, 34. JUGGERNAUGHT IS IN EEFFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He really seems to be hit or miss. I was worried after the first 2 games, I don't expect them to keep up this kind of play but I feel way better now.

You break the video down in a very clear and concise way. Really good job.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love how Hutch gets no called held on the regular and puts his head down and go to work next play! No arms up begging for flag ala Aaron Rodgers

Agreed. It is pretty consistent on him

Spot on 💯
Well stated!
Team was built right.
In the middle of the video I need a shameless plug. If you want more Lions content hit the LIKE. Now back to the video.

In that last play of the video. GB doubled Jack Campbell and failed to block everyone else.

I noticed when branch went down the defense kind of let up a lil bit crazy the type of impact he is having for us
He's like the spark-plug, yes?

Branch is an impact player, he can cover someone but knows when he can & should make a break for it & he seems to have that Leadership ability

Funny cause next week they will be attacking and calling for Aaron Glenn's job 🤦🏾♂️
Jordan love does not know how to sell the fake on play action
Jordan Love and Fields nearly the same player. 0 awareness, vision, or ball skills.
If we play the lions we goin have our hands full their oline Dline not to be F*** wit
They are playing extremely well right now, no doubt about it.
