I come from the days when you had a Tedder & a Windrow and you *always* burnt the stubble, which was a sight to see as the fire-line crept across the field and all the hands keeping an eye on the line of poplars at the edge of the field . . . But I digress. Interesting machine, that. I see there's a bit of faffing about, but better one machine to do the job of two. Thanks for the U/L x
We are approaching our second summer in our Cornish small holding and have bought, but yet to use, the same hay bob for our MF135 (thank you for the great video you did on how to change the oil). This is a really helpful video thank you!

I remember when haybobs arrived lol. They almost took a day off the time to win hay. The old Dickie turners used to leave wet bits sticking to the ground which would lift when the swathes were worked for second and third time , meaning damp pouks in the hay. The haybobs also made the Lely Acrobat redundant as they rowed up so efficiently there wasn't enough left to be worth raking! Main problem was the tines breaking off and breaking shear bolts in the baler or damaging the bale knife. I think later models tried to tie the tines together so that if they halved they would stay on the machine.
Hello mate, I'm rufus from London England, and I've worked on farms all my younger years, I put an advertisement in farmers weekly, and got two farmers who were willing to give me a try, one was dairy and the other dairy and arable, 360 cows, and 40 acres crops and grazing, I drove tractors, combine harvesters, 360 excavator, backhoe, but the best was getting up at 430 am to milk the 360 cows every day, the bail hay, or spread silage
I have had simular problems after a drought with dead looking areas, undersowed the paddock with Italian rye grass quick establishment and bulk grass for winter and spring.

Cool. We used to have a couple Haybob's, great for guys that just have a smaller operation or don't want to spend the money on 2 machines. With that said, I'm glad we now have both a tedder and a rake rather than a Haybob lol
Great video - helpful to me as someone gave me an old haybob to have a go at haymaking. Gives me some idea of what to actually do - LOL!! The close up shot of working diagrams are very useful as all stickers on my machine are non existent, top link diagram needs thinking about for me, well done thanks .
Pretty interesting, never seen a Tedder or bob, we used a rake and turned the windrow a couple of times before baling, love the video and subscribed for more

Adjusting the wheels is important. You have yours set in the mid height. It will not do a good job rowing if they are left in the highest setting (wheels full height from ground)
im a crofter and im 16 and we use a massy 35 for ours and its my faverit job and in the next coople of weeks we will be doing hay aswell just wating for the weather lol
The Seangan Crofter I sure hope you went to school in these last 3 yrs or at least took a spelling class my 8 yr old can spell better than you did at 13
hola como puedo mover las ruedas ? para que vayan alineadas con las ruedas del tractor . Hello, how can I move the wheels? so that they are aligned with the tractor wheels
Have you ever had to change those little horizontal springs on the shafts that keep the tines in the air. Your springs on that model look like a bit different set up then my Sitrex HM300.
That's an itty bitty tedder! I'm so used to seeing the huge ones we use here, I've never seen one that small. How big are the fields you're typically running in?
really explained what i was looking for , ie the position of the tines for raking and tedding, what i didn't understand was you said about the position of the top link when you change to raking was very important can you explain the two positions of the top link please, im just about to start making hay for the first time !!! thanks
not telling you what to do but from experience of round baling and using a haybob 350 rpm is plenty for rowing and turning it leaves less lumps in the grass and leaves it a lot easier on the baler man :)
I guess a live-drive pto is more important than hp. As long as the tractor can lift the machine, and keep it going, you can get good results. Experiment in your crop, what pto speed and forward speed suits best. In windy conditions slower forward may give a neater row when windrowing. Lovely to see a haybob again!
@@thefunkyfarmer I tried it, I think it is stuck with the oxide, I thought it was necessary to remove a nut or something like that, I am going to try to destroy or heat up, thank you very much for answering! greetings from Guadalajara Mexico
great hay making videos Richard must be a relief to have the hay all done while the weather was good have you ever bought a new tractor on the farm or do you buy all used people I know have different opinions on which way to go with machinery replacement some buy all new on finance and other buy used outright and don't like finance
Hi Paul. We have only ever bought a couple of new tractors, the rest 2nd hand. But with the price of new tractors now we can't really justify a new tractor any more on a small farm like ours. As you can see we use mostly contractors for a lot of the jobs on the farm as the machinary is so expensive. We buy both new and 2nd hand machinary but it really depends what it is, obviously you have to be carefull with 2nd hand that it hasn't been hammered to death. I would buy new every time if i could justify the cost as we tend to keep our machinary a long time
thefunkyfarmer No, just select 1000 not 540, not all older tractors have that setting. My old David brown 995 does. I find it's a lot quieter, less diesel. Love the videos keep them coming.
Do you really need to run it at 500rpm? As Sam says, it's harder on diesel and noiser. I find I can run at 400rpm and about 4km hour. But I guess maybe you are moving faster?
Well done Richard. We are all blessed to know you and your fantastic family.

Thanks dude, v helpful video. Need to invest in a secondhand haybob for a few acres of hay and this really explains how they work!

You should worry about the wheels. You will pick up more if you put the wheels up so the tines or lower to the ground and will rake up more

Hello, how can I move the wheels? so that they are aligned with the tractor wheels
That looks like a nice crop. How many bales?
Have you ever had to change those little horizontal springs on the shafts that keep the tines in the air. Your springs on that model look like a bit different set up then my Sitrex HM300.
yes they are a real pain to change
That's an itty bitty tedder! I'm so used to seeing the huge ones we use here, I've never seen one that small. How big are the fields you're typically running in?
its only any good for small fields. we use in fields of about 6 acres
makes sense for a field that size! I've pulled bigger 4 or 6 wheel rigs in fields that size.....it sucks trying to turn!
Do you start in the middle or the outside of the field Do you go clock or anti-clockwise
middle first, headlands last. going anticlockwise
really explained what i was looking for , ie the position of the tines for raking and tedding,
what i didn't understand was you said about the position of the top link when you change to raking was very important can you explain the two positions of the top link please,

thanks
you need to extend the top link a bit when you are raking otherwise the tines will hit the ground and break
good luck with the hay
thanks for the info Richard will keep an eye on your channel
so what your saying is with the hay bob you can ted hay and rake the hay with the same implement ?
Yes that's right. It's a great machine
that is pretty cool... wouldnt work good for us bc we do about 500 acres of hay and we use a 12 wheel and 16 wheel H&S wheel rake
30 ft
It's a shame there isn't a big version of this machine
@thefunkyfarmer there is. I had a 4 head Zweegers haybob years ago. Iirc it did a 16' swath.
Here's the haybob in action with our trusty old Massey Ferguson 265
Tedding and raking for hay with a Massey Ferguson 265
I remember this tedder from when i was a kid, and it,s still used. It,s a Dutch machine, so......
I want a hay bob
Robert Hoetmer was it a fransgard?
You should use the 1000 rpm pto then you'd have way less revs way less diesel burnt 💲 ! I always use my square baler this way
not telling you what to do but from experience of round baling and using a haybob 350 rpm is plenty for rowing and turning it leaves less lumps in the grass and leaves it a lot easier on the baler man :)
+finn tiney fair comment
Cracking video. What horse power is required to drive your Haybob?
+Nippy Fox dont need much at all we have used 72hp (leyland) but you could use less than that
We don't use a lot to f horse
I guess a live-drive pto is more important than hp. As long as the tractor can lift the machine, and keep it going, you can get good results. Experiment in your crop, what pto speed and forward speed suits best.
In windy conditions slower forward may give a neater row when windrowing. Lovely to see a haybob again!
all three great vids what tractor would you have if you could have any??
not really sure Bob but any new Massey would be nice
oh right cool. im more of a John deere fan
I'd have an old Reaunalt TX :)
What happened to spectacle funky farmer?
it's weird but i stopped needing them

undo the handle at the top of each drum. Then you can move the wheels up and down

One question, how to adjust the height of the tires?
joel lopez similar to the tines - pull the pin out on top of the machine above the wheels - then slot into the different hole (3 vertical holes)
Random question for you Richard do you shoot I have a 410 shotgun it is a revo k226 410
i used to do a bit but now i stick with clays as now i'd rather see things alive on the farm
Hi,
You ever considered running it on 1000 rpm with half the revs?
It really doesn't take much hp to run,
Just askin
never tried. wouldn't that involve putting on a different shaft?
thefunkyfarmer
No, just select 1000 not 540, not all older tractors have that setting. My old David brown 995 does.

what gear were you in
2nd or 3rd high
+thefunkyfarmer how many tines to you brake
Not many if you set the top link right
1
Jeans and a t shirt
12 bore double barrel or single or what
12 bore side by side
What shotgun do you have
only an old cheap thing my dad bought years ago
Some haybob s you can take off the gates
do the gates not come of ours does
+Matthew Irvine yes i could take them off but it doesn't make much difference to the throw
As long as I wouldnt own less then 100 m2 grasland I would prefer a combination of a CondiMaster and a SwatMaster any time over this rattlebob.... ;)
or fold up for a wider throw
Put some vids on of jack
So another word for it is a Tedder
Daniel Cocozza not really, a haybob is a tedder and a windowing rake.
You went far to fast you have to go slow for the haybod to be able to bring In the hay
well it all went fine at this speed
+thefunkyfarmer what speed did you go?
I couldn't tell you, no more than 8mph I guess
Ok no problem
I don't get it, like a junky rotory rake?
Just buy a real reke wth?
To each his own I guess
The leaf loss must be simply awful.
Put a video of u shooting please

Yeah I shoot pigeons to protect the crop and pheasnt on a shoot then me a dad do clays
