    Just wanted to thank you for posting this video. The 2nd row passenger seat on the drivers side wouldn't fold down & so I followed your instructions though the steps have to be done on both sides on that seat, & found the same problem you had although the fix wasn't as simple as your's since that seat in the MDX has 2 cables that run to the latch & the right side was broken. Tried to rig it, & after finding no way to get the spring to catch back in the plastic housing gave up on that, since the rig I tried didn't work anyway. Just left the ends of the cables exposed by not putting the latch back on & was able to fold the seat by pulling on them with a couple of pliers. I can deal with that until I order a new part. :D

    Thanks Joe. Used this tutorial to fix the same thing in my 2003 Pilot. The right side was no problem, however, the left is another matter. Because the left is 2 seats, there are 2 cables, so there is no second slot to use. You will have to buy a new part or repair the old. I am opting to repair because as of this message, the part is $192. Thanks again for the help.

    • @FloridaJoe3

      Whoa! $192. That's highway robbery. It would be cool if someone uploaded the plastic part spec for 3D printing. Just sayin.

    My Acura is a 2001 with 187K miles. The driver’s 2nd row recline didn’t work and the passenger’s slide didn’t work, but the recline is working. I asked the dealer how much to fix the driver’s side and it was over $300. I came across this video and I was so excited to do this myself. I took apart the driver’s side and one side was completely broken out and the other side had a fracture for the second cable. I thought all I need to do is swap sides because the passenger side is working. Took it apart and it had a fracture where the cable was and the other side was fine since there’s no 2nd cable. I ended up taking the lever assembly out of the housing and the sides off the lever assembly. Since the housing can be taken apart like I did, you would think you could just order the plastic keeper for the cables. No, you have to order the whole housing. With it apart like I did, it made it easy for me to fix by repairing it with a CD disk. I made to fit, glued over the existing plastic to cover the broken out and fractured sides. I drilled out the holes and shaved down the thickness enough so the cable would slip and click in place. I’m sure there’s better material to use. Time will tell. Getting the spring back in place was challenging because I had the whole thing taken apart then the video. I noticed the plastic that held the spring in place had broken. I wasn’t sure how to pull the spring out to latch once the housing is put back together. Since I took everything apart, I scotch taped the spring in place to hold enough until I almost the lever snapped back in where the holes lined up to place the pin back in and then I could finish snapping it in. The rubber band would still be hooked to the end where I could use tweezers and pull on the rubber band through the hole of the housing and latch the spring. I probably went too far and made it harder than it should have, but the video helped me a lot and I was able to fix it. Now I need to work on the passenger side to get the seat to slide forward. The slide cable is set up differently.

    I love You Tube and I love FloridaJoe3 for making this video. Started taking my chair apart for this very reason when I though, hey, I should check if someone has made a video on how to fix this chair. Guess who stepped up to the plate 4 1/2 years before I even knew I needed him...FloridaJoe3. Forty five minutes later, my chair is as good as new. Or at least new to me, which was used with 200K miles. But fixed. That's the important part, fixed. And I will say, if I hadn't watched the video and continued on method of disassembling the chair I was going on, I would have totally eff'd up my chair and it would still be broken.

    Do you think this fix could have been possible by just opening up the mechanism that was broken and doing the adjustments straight from the shoulder area without disassembling the whole seat? Or do you think theres not enough give in the cable to allow for that?

    • @FloridaJoe3
      @FloridaJoe3  4 года назад +1

      Interesting thought. I guess it's worth a try. Over the years I've tried many repairs without totally disassembling things and it can quite often be possible but much more painful to do it that way. So I lean towards more disassembly when things are tight. Thanks for the comment.

    • @mattyyoungcloudsart3008
      @mattyyoungcloudsart3008 4 года назад +1

      @@FloridaJoe3 Haha so after fighting with it for the past few hours on and off, I'd have to agree. It did *technically* work, but the tight space was incredibly aggravating, not to mention that I did end up sacrificing the spring being reattached, which was going to be the death of me haha.
      Ultimately I got it back together and functional but yeah...half way through I wish I had just disassembled.
      Really appreciate the video though! Great help!

    • @FloridaJoe3
      @FloridaJoe3  3 года назад

      Hmmm...That is an excellent question. I think if I remember correctly, I may have use a screwdriver to trip the catch but on the driver's side that may be a bit difficult. Perhaps if you raise the 3rd row seat and then see if you can get at the latch with a screwdriver. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

    • @FloridaJoe3
      @FloridaJoe3  4 года назад

      If you can skip everything and still get to the cable to move it over, more power to ya. I usually find that if I skip taking things apart for easy access, I spend more time struggle to get at the repair than it would have taken to just take it all apart. Good luck with yours.

    • @FloridaJoe3
      @FloridaJoe3  5 лет назад

      When I remove a part with screw holes, I just keep the screws in the holes that they came out of. If the part is not removed with the screws then I just line them up on a surface in the same pattern as they came out. I might even draw the part on paper and lay the screws where they go. Good luck with your repair.
