  • Campbell's is well known for their soups but that's only about a quarter of their business. This video talks about the various other brands they've owned over the years that we don't typically associate with them.

They've tried to create a whole bunch of new soup lines over the years, but I respect that they've never changed their existing core products at all, not even the packaging. There are companies out there that could really learn from that.

Agreed. Even if only from a cynical standpoint that existing market exists. Don't axe the known working good while diversifying, especially if the new product turns out to be shit.
The 'chunky' and 'progresso' soupes are actually pretty good, but c'mon. Red/white can. Not the best thing i nth world, but hot chicken soup, vegetable beef, hell even their tomato. Good stuff.
Plus c'mon. Their Cream of Whatever is a godsend for dish cooking.

There is nothing like a bowl or mug of Campbel'l's tomato soup, a grilled cheese sandwich, on crusty bread and French fries to comfort you through a cold winter day. About two decades ago, my sister was born. While in the hospital with my mother, I went off to get a snack down the hall from her room. The hospital had small cups of Campbell's chicken noodle soup that you could heat up in a nearby microwave. I grabbed a cup and heated it up. When it came out, I went to take a bite and noticed the chicken chunk was just a big ol' artery. I started to inspect the other pieces of meat, and they were all the same: Horrifying clumps of arteries and veins. I have no idea what happened to cause that specific soup cup to end up like that, but ever since then I've generally avoided anything with Campbell's branding on it.

My vote is for the Home Style soups. I like the Home Style chicken noodle better than the Chunky Soup version. It's got a thinner broth and more noodles. I've noticed it started disappearing from some stores recently. I hope that's from the crap going on in recent years because I miss my favourite canned soup!

I was waiting for you to make a video about Campbell's I figured it would be interesting.
I used to work as a delivery vendor for Snyder Lance when they were bought, I remember thinking it was a joke at first but then I looked into it and Campbell's history and it made sense to me.
You can go into your local grocery store and see their displays up, usually with Snyders Lance and Pepperidge Farm snacks and bread products displayed together.

Many, many would argue Rao's is the best pasta sauce sold in regular stores. It wins taste test after taste test. And it IS good. But 7 bucks a bottle is nuts. I like the store brand sauce from Lidl or Aldi. It's about a buck and it is good enough. Did not know they owned Open Pit. That stuff is awesome and I always wondered why the heck it had such a pickle juice flavor. They're part of Vlasic. I see.

I'd come over to their house with a jar and cook up some pasta, then force them to eat it. After they experienced the same epiphany all Rao's fans experience, they understand why I was so persistent. Best. Evar. I've even been to their restaurant in Caesar's Palace! I didn't know it was there until I walked by it and I nearly lost my mind when I came across it. Best day. Evar.

Disappointed that you didn’t mention Arnotts biscuits….
“In 1997, the Campbell Soup Company of North America, a shareholder of Arnott's since the 1980s, acquired Arnott's in full. Thus, in 1997, Arnott's Biscuits Ltd became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Campbell Soup Company. This caused a significant amount of controversy in Australia, based on the desire for such an Australian icon to remain in Australian hands, and a fear that Campbell's would Americanise the products.”

Campbell's is a long time military contractor with the United States. True fact. I know because one of my grandfather's brothers was a United States Navy Quartermaster and part of his duties was checking shipments of supplies. He even showed me an old supply log copy dating back to World War II which showed the ship he had been assigned to taking on a palette of Campbell's condensed soup cans. Of course, the cans the military get are larger and don't have the familiar red and white civilian labels on it. It makes sense because the cans stay shelf-stable for a long time, making it perfect for a long haul.

As a Brit, I've got to say, it's often annoyingly hard to find Campbells. It's probably there, but the store usually only has few cans hidden in the corner out of sight in favour of Heinz or own-brand. Those condensed soups aren't the best on their own but are invaluable as a sauce for other dishes.
