    This is a very inspiring video. I think I may go at a small undertaking like this at my uncle's farm, which is struggling of course. I have grown shitake's from a starter log kit and wondered if something like this would be feasable. You have inspired me to get farming!

    thankyou 4 inspiration. RUclips has given way for videos that will inspire the survivors of the next generation. Thank you 4 this video. I hope it will inspire people that think they can only survive on food stamps, or church hand out's.

    This was really interesting. Thanks for showing this. I always wondered why Shiitakes cost more than most others.

    I like to make a soup from Shiitake, Enoki and Oyster mushrooms. It's so good... if you want you can add some white truffle oil at the end but it's really not necessary because they already have such a rich earthy/nutty taste.

    Nice to see this sort of venture, creativity, and enthusiasm. Pretty neat. I will always buy US-grown shiitake rather than ones from China. Nothing against Chinese people but I can't trust products from China. On principle I want to buy local and eat fresh mushrooms rather than dried ones anyway. Nice work.

    They keep producing for several years. To get the to fruit you soak them with water. You can get up to 5 yeras of good production from some logs

    Guinea fowl are excellent for pest control, and they don't scratch up the place and make mud pits. Also I use hydrated lime to control slugs..spread directly on ground...plus mushrooms like the PH

      There are a few ideas to try
      pick the best variety - there are lots available.
      grow them in the right conditions - some such as oyster muchrooms like cool humid conditions and can be put outside (I discovered these and the reasons they work on Gregs Mushroom Grower site )

    Damn guys, that's to much work with all those holes. Try shaving about one 10th off a single side of each log, place one flat on the ground with the shaved face facing upward, place your inoculated / colonized medium on the top and sandwich it using the other stump. Can be done vertically too although obviously something is required to keep them tied together. Alternatively keep them flat until properly colonized and then place them vertically. So much simpler and yields might even increase.

      +Stefan Bachrodt
      The lifespan of the fruit production might decresae though, I don't thinking making holes is hard at all given you have the proper drill bit and drill for the job. Might be an idea worth trying though

    We have lots of poplar. I wonder if I can grow mushrooms on them?
    As for slugs. Beer is an expensive way . They go for the yeast. put a teaspoon of yeast in a jar of sugar water and let foam. Ducks are great for slug control.
    Also ,under cover, dogfood mixed with crushed barley bran. You have to pick them off and best drop them into hot water.

    once you get the plugs,how much time do you have to put into a log-- before they go bad??

  • @Aftergloh

    When Forcing the Growth, are you soaking the logs w the plugs in them or without?

    • @reformationinc.3376
      @reformationinc.3376 5 лет назад +1

      Aftergloh
      With. You don't take the plugs out once you pound them in and wax over them. Plus keep the logs off the ground always. Competing fungus contamination could result from ground contact. Good Luck

    Hello American colleagues! I solved the problem with slugs, as the field is leveled, making sand, and network Agretela top gravel. Otherwise, the mushrooms will be damaged to 50%. Ice melting in the bath for 24 hours rank places. Success !

    How do we know that the mushrooms there are edible or poisonous or not.... Is there a way to detect poisons in mushrooms and to neutralize the poisons, if any....?..

    • @empanada65
      @empanada65 6 лет назад +2

      Teh Csiamg they know because they were the ones that planted the spores and mycelium of the shiitake mushrooms in the logs. They only grow shiitake. They don’t harvest anything that isn’t Shiitake even if something else did grow on it the log. They know what the shiitake looks like and no. There is no method of removing poisons from a poisonous mushroom. The only way to eat a poisonous mushroom and not get sick or die is to not eat it in the first place. But yeah, they don’t guess and hope that what grows is shiitake. They plant the mushroom mycelium themselves. It’s the same way farmers don’t clear a plot of land and hope the whole thing will fill with crops. They plant it themselves. That’s how they know it’s safe.

    2.5 pounds over the life of a log; each log lasts 8-9 years. That's $3.9/log/year. He's inoculated a total of 1150 logs over 2 years. That's $4,485/year gross...that IS child labor even in volume.
