A lot of dancing that goes along with Pop or Rock music shows off how good the dancers are.
Which is great. It's fun to watch good dancers.
BABYMETAL seem to have two main priorities with their choreography.
    1. Express a narrative
    2. Involve the audience.
Yui and Moa (or Moa and supporting dancers) generally lead the second.
Facial expressions are very important in Sakura Gakuin.
When Moa was a member, MIKIKO would often point her out to the others as a great example.
She considered her a natural Idol.
Yui was known for her precision, and was always aware of how every member should be positioned.

    Awadama Fever:-
Awadama Fever is a song from BABYMETAL's second original album, METAL RESISTANCE. The same composer who wrote "Gimme Chocolate". This song was written as a result of backlash from the BABYMETAL haters that BABYMETAL are a bubblegum pop Band. When the breakdown happens, you are entering "DOOM" territory. This genre can be considered Industrial Metal like Rammstein from Germany 🇩🇪 & Reminiscent elements of melodic speed metal. "Awadama Fever", like "Gimme Chocolate!!", follows genres of drum and bubblegum... - melodies over thrash metal", the group's song, "Awadama Fever"
exemplified the genre, the song contained "slabs of angry... their regular number "Doki Doki ✩ Morning", becoming heated on the floor. "Awadama Fever" has Su-metal performing call and response with the audience shouting...
    SWEETS:-
Pine Awadama: The Pioneer of Fizzy Candies in Japan. The Awadama soda candy (Weight: 120 g/ Price: 162 yen) is from Pine, an Osaka-based confectionery company known for its pineapple candy named Pine Ame (パインアメ).
Awadama (あわだま), literally meaning Bubble Ball, is a kind of Dagashi. First released in 1987, this product is known as the pioneer of fizzy candies in Japan.
Awadama Soda Candy, Apple, Pineapple & Grape Flavors.
Since fizzy soda candies weren’t around at the time, these treats soon became popular, and Dagashiya candy shops dotted around the city carried them.
Today, candy shops are rarely seen in the city, but instead, Dagashi treats like this are available at supermarkets, convenience stores, and drugstore chains.
    Awadama Candy from Pine
The Awadama soda candy comes in three flavours, Apple (アップル), Pineapple (パイン), and Grape (グレープ), which are neither so sweet nor intense.
Once popped in the mouth, these Ame (hard candies) give a slight fizzy feeling, and the slow fizz lasts till the end. They are not stimulating but refreshing, and I can’t get enough of eating them!

YOu are right: Mikiko said that SU is a natural, and sometimes she would go up to SU after a show ended and said she really liked what SU did there, and SU would be confused not even remembering what she did! It's just pure intuition and natural!!

  • @Wombatmetal
    @Wombatmetal Год назад +7

Mikiko says that Yui and Moa act like somebody on stage, and that Su is somebody. Su isn't acting on stage, she is channeling Su-metal. (Mikiko calls her crazy). Mikiko also says that Su doesn't count the beats like Yui and Moa, she feels the music.
The song is by the way one of empowerment. When they started out, there were a lot of people in the metal community that dismissed them as bubble gum metal. So they wrote a song about bubblegum and totally owned it. Everything people hate about Babymetal was turned up to 11 in this song. Take that haters

    Nice reaction/analysis again, thanks!
Yes, Su-metal is an incredible performer. A natural born performer I'd say. She rarely breaks her character, although when she does she's even more amazing hehe...
They perform with high energy, to the point that SG girls have a particular expression for that: "to burn with perfect combustion". Which means to perform all the show (or the season, the year, etc.) giving your maximum all the time just to burn your last bit of energy in the end of the final song or performance.

Good reaction and analysis. I never really took a lot of notice of dancing before I fell in the Fox Hole and admit I know nothing about it at all, but I like the fact the BABYMETAL choreography and dance is not the same as every other act that uses dancers.
Most dance acts I've seen just do a lot of the same things and eventually you can't tell them apart, they end up doing all the same movements as each other, just in a different order, and that's all it is, movement, no real relation to the music beyond following the basic rhythm or the beat, just a way to fill the stage ... as far as someone like me can tell anyway.
BABYMETAL's choreo and movements are far more expressive of and fit better with the song. The fact that they don't do what all the other acts do (or would probably do with BABYMETAL songs) makes someone like me take notice, it is what makes it stand out and adds to what makes them so different and unique.
'Awadama Fever' is a great song - possibly (I would like to think - in reality probably not) a push back against the critics who said they were "just playing Bubblegum Pop-Metal with squeaky high voices" ... OK here is a song about bubblegum with everything you criticised turned up to 11 ... you are welcome to climb aboard our mint flavoured time machine and see how far this dream might go, the only limits are your imagination.

Awadama Fever is a hidden gem, to me it's the ultimate presentation of Kawaii Metal. I think the lyrics are beautiful with the idea of flying off to reach your dreams by chewing on a bubblegum that becomes a mint-flavored time machine. The melody and choreography are just as amazing, I could listen to an entire album of this style. I think their choreography isn't just a showcase of dancing, it's also entertainment. They learned in Sakura Gakuin the importance of making sure the crowd has fun, which is probably why we love seeing them.

This was always some of my favorite BM choreography. It's such unnatural movements. I can't stop watching it.

  • @cuttysark8017
    @cuttysark8017 Год назад +12

BM/SG choreography emphasizes kawaii and an almost amateurish dance style...SG did get a bit more technical later on. It's all very much about being regular girls who just happen to sing and dance so the "dancer aesthsetic" is discouraged and Mikiko saying that Su is a "natural" is a great compliment. I'm really interested to see how/if the dance style changes for the new songs and tour now that BM are in their mid 20's.
The lyrics to Awadama Fever (Bubblegum Fever) might just be the cutest middle finger ever to the critics who said Babymetal wasn't metal and was just "bubblegum pop". That's how many fans interpret this song anyway - BM have never said anything to that effect. Babymetal's "mint flavored time machine" takes us anywhere and I take that to mean that BM/Koba have the freedom to do any style of music they want and we also have the freedom to dream and do what we want. This is a common BM theme. But the ironic pop/rave references start even before the first words with the drum beats which are the now almost banal "amen" drum break. It was also used in the opening theme to "The Powerpuff Girls"...who are also three cute girls who are strong and fierce. So we get a very "bubblegum pop" first half of the song and then maybe the heaviest metal breakdown in BM's catalogue. The only more rave/dubstep/ironic song BM have is "Headbanger Night of 15 Mix" which is definitely worth a watch as it is purposefully mimed and, as I suggested in a previous post, it would be fun to compare that with AG's "Pineapple Kryptonite Yohji Igarashi Remix". But you should also react to BM's greatest achievement "Tales of the Destinies", even though that's more about the music than the dance.

While not officially confirmed, many have speculated the Awadama Fever was also a big (yet polite) middle finger by the songwriters to the critics and gatekeepers who call Babymetal "bubblegum metal" and the opening of the door choreo at the end was a "You just got served" message. 😁 🤘🦊🤘😁

It's been some time since I saw it but I remember Mikiko saying she approaches the dance for Perfume and BABYMETAL differently.
In Perfume the dance is choreographed and taught to the ladies to dance to precision.
In BABYMETAL the girls first come up with the dance moves that feels right with the music and she comes in to give it a final polish.

Nice reaction as always. This is one of my favorite BM songs and I love their routine in this and also in Yava. I've been watching some shorts of Tibetan dancing that is very entrancing and graceful. I know it might not be in your wheelhouse per se, but this dance is going wild on RUclips. It's not based on modern music, but on Tibetan folk-style music. But it is so interesting to watch. They are usually in a plaza with crowds of people watching and quite a few join in to try to learn. It's not frenetic at all, but very enjoyable. There are a few channels, Welcome To Chengdu, Yangkyi, Choeto and Yongji Gouzhuang. There is also another Chinese dance style, called the Dandan Shuffle that is also blowing up. They are more in your style area. Enjoy.

I don’t really understand your comment. A choreographer would watch me now and say certain things, then go back and watch me at 16 and say different things. The One asked me to go back and I’ve assessed based on my professional opinion. Opinion. I’m not sure you realise that choreographers don’t do background checks on everyone they meet, we literally assess what we see.
