    I just opened my new Cobbler's (Chinese) sewing machine
    (I ordered it a month ago)
    this morning! While searching, I came upon your wonderful RUclips Channel.
    I have never had a sewing machine before.
    I just retired and am starting leathercrafting as a serious hobby/or even maybe a future business.(And hopefully make a little extra money after I have made several mistakes and then have learned from them! Lol)
    Right now, though, I am donating everything I make by hand - leather cuffs, wallets, and key fobs, using a friend's original logo I put on them by using my Arbor Press and a special ordered brass stamp, to stamp his logo directly on the leather (deboss), or I can make a rustic looking heat stamped logo into the leather.
    (I also got the optional hand held attachable heating iron.) I am donating all of my handmade items to my friend so that he will be able to offer as free merch gifts (and possibly he might sell merch in the future...as I learn more through tutorials) for his growing RUclips Channel, too.
    I am only on RUclips, though.
    I'm not on Facebook, or any other social media channel,
    so as I hear you explaining how you offer your advice, I think all of a sudden I might have a disadvantage from the very beginning.🤷‍♀️
    Boy, do I need all the help you have so generously offered through your other free tutorials on RUclips, as I start to learn to figure out how to use my new Cobbler's sewing machine!
    They say it is a gamechanger.
    No more stress on my achy fingers!
    Thank you for sharing your videos.
    (I am hoping they are still free?)
    I just love your RUclips Channel! Again, Thank You!

Maybe a video series put on dvd or download, thats another great idea for conflicting schedules of the person needing help and the person providing it. You'd think that a person could just watch videos on youtube, but not everyone has a lap top or portable computer in their work space for sewing,...I just love videos, how to's I've bought over the years on various things, I like to get em on dvd for some reason.

    Thanks so much for making these videos. They've helped me a lot. I know they are not easy to make (I considered making one or two). Just wanted to say, I appreciate your efforts. One issue I have, and I've looked and looked for a solution, is how to tighten up the thread in the stitches. *Usually* when I use a lighter or thinner thread it sews but the stitches are very loose. Any ideas?

    There are ~100w sewing machine motors commonly available (e.g., Amazon), one I looked at was about $25. Unfortunately, these motors seem to be 6000-9000rpm ... and not much torque at low speeds, which seems to be exactly what we don't want with this sort of machine (we want high torque matching what we'd be able to do by hand, at lower speeds). Some of the sewing machine motors meant for industrial sewing machines, have electronic settings for maximum speed (and, if they don't have mechanical things you can do to limit the speed, like limit pedal travel and getting smaller motor pulleys). These motors cost nearly as much as the sewing machine, though ($65 & up)....
    Am curious if any viewers had any luck doing a similar motor-ification as you did?

    • @MainelyAcresFarmBrooks
      @MainelyAcresFarmBrooks  4 года назад

      Yes, I have seen another person using the same motor I am using, but set up completely different. Join this Facebook group: facebook.com/groups/1646031288779869/ and look for Delbert Forpahl. I am thinking about upgrading to a servo motor

Anyway, I have one coming to me, a chinese one, paid $103.99 shipped off ebay from a company listed in California but it is shipping from Kentucky, bought the five piece sets of bobbin, shuttle, carrier for $17.99 out of Hong Kong, along with some waxed threads of course and a three strand heavy duty thread for shoe repair.

      @@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks Then I discover there are two other variations of this chinese shoe patcher I never seen before, one a SL 26 post bed style, and a SL 28, meant to sew thick leather and the top outer edges of shoes. Both are way more expensive than the regular shoe patcher(or its because hardly anyone is selling these variations and there isn't enough demand, dunno), I saw the sl26 on ebay out of china at $389 and that is the cheapest I saw it, considering I saw it on alibaba and ali express, the sl26 post bed nd the sl 28. I guess the problem is are they really worth it at bout $300 each,...though they have the hand wheel grooved for a motor drive, they show a table with electric motor but at that price I doubt the table assembly comes with those machines, maybe the $600 plus listed same machines with tables shown. • @MainelyAcresFarmBrooks
      @MainelyAcresFarmBrooks  5 лет назад +1

      They recommend not using waxed thread, but I have used thread I waxed myself and had no issues. The thread I waxed was the T-138 when I was sewing through the tires. I am guessing the trick is to not have the thread overly waxed. That way it doesn't gum up the tension disks or bobbin.

      The only issues that can cause that to happen is timing, needle bar depth, or pittman rod needs to be adjusted. Most of the time it's the needle bar depth. I have three videos on that topic: Bobbin issues:
