Hi Chris, once again you take it to another level!! It's great that you take so much time during these builds to show us all what it is your doing and how to do it. You are a master at your craft mate, look forward to seeing more of this one. Watching from half a world away in the land down under!
Chris, you said you needed a win, and well, you GOT IT brother! What a fantastic rendition of the venerable Ford! Good job my friend, glad to see this plane coming along. Can't wait to see your panel lines and additional detailing. All the best to you and yours!
The George Barris of rc aviation.... so fun to watch you create and perfect detail. I have spent many hours on real show cars and this is the creativity level needed for success. Great work Chris. Love the video story component too.
Application is the evidence of learning the skills it takes to do such an amazing job on your model. I enjoyed watching the video Chris. The fact that you did need to touch up some bleeds is a reality of painting and masking. Excellent work indeed on this video as to me it was inspiring,
Wow!! What a Stunning paint job and choice!! You make it look so easy. I would love to be able to do your type of high quality work and painting. Not to mention the decals, and detailing work that you do. Awesome work and job done on this beautiful project….
Thank you! Be sure to download my free painting guide www.thercgeek.com/trcgscaleguide. That’s a good place to start and I actually have a lot of things in the works with the goal of helping folks like yourself to walk through how to do this, but that’s coming soon still. 😊
Great video Chris , been learning so much . Thanks for showing us how to get an accurate looking aircraft. Looking forward to the next instalment. Greetings from New Zealand.
Man you got skills. Its been awhile since ive done painted markings....your talents will come in handy for the next size up.😊 Cant wait to see future vids.
thats very nice , a small tip when you use metalics ,go first with a gloss black then add the Metal ,first of all you are using half the material because on the black it covers faster and you get true metal effect !
Thanks! The black is definitely required for the high shine Alclad2, but isn’t necessary for the standard aluminum colors which is what I sprayed here. I’ve tested and painted alclad a bunch and there’s no difference in the sheen when doing that with the base aluminums.
@@Thercgeek around the front of the fuse when you where painting the transitions from white to grey it looked like you rolled the tape to soften the line. I could be wrong but that's what it looked like
Awesome work as always Chris and that mesh system for graphics I will definitely try. Now get that respirator on when painting brother. Take it from a pro that's painted for 30+ years.
What an amazing job! It looks so good and the attention to details is amazing really looking forward to seeing more videos on this jet. Take care PS. I use aluminum foil for complex corners when masking. It saves so much time
Amazing paint work! I love MRP paint and paint plastic models..(have flown some RC as well). Can I use that stencil technique with GIMP to create custom insignias? I'm usually building 1/32 scale models these days. thanks
Thank you! I’m not familiar with GIMP, but the material can be used for any type of masks, so using it for custom insignias should work great! I’d definitely recommend playing around with it first before going all in just to make sure it gives you the results you want. 😊
Cool! I read that the 70's Navy jets were the light gull grey, FS36440. There seems to be a lot of variation in the gray color in actual photos. Some look like the gull gray where others look different. Have you noticed this variation of color in the 1970's era Navy jets? @@Thercgeek
The 1970’s phantoms were most definitely gull gray (36440) over white (37875). As they entered into the 80s, the schemes started to evolve into the low viz grays reminiscent of what you see nowadays. There were even some experimental schemes painted on them as well in the 80s.
Hi Chris, great video! Just wanted you to know that I tried to subscribe in order to get your scale painting guide but it failed with Firefox 119.0. Tried Google Chrome and it worked fine. Maybe a mistake on my side but maybe a browser problem. Keep up that great work, it's just so very inspiring for us scale modelers!
Looks awesome Chris! What airbrush do you recommend for these bigger paint jobs? I have an iwatta eclipse hp-cs and it took forever to paint the proper green on my Seagull FW-190. Thanks!
Thank you! The airbrush I used in the video is this one amzn.to/3RCdfsi that I combined with their fan tip amzn.to/456bJ4G it does well for larger surfaces. Otherwise, when that’s insufficient I have a devilbiss automotive touch up gun that I use. But that doesn’t facilitate the use of plastic model paints unfortunately.
Looks great, Chris! I've learned a lot of great tips watching your videos. I hope to apply some of them to the 150% Jetworks SLUF I'm slowly (slowly) finishing. :)
Hi Chris.. Great job man.. A lot of good tips I'm learning from you.. That will help me when I get back on my Mig-31 Firefox that I've been working on and off for a long time now..
I love MRP for that tedious reason. If pre shading, it works great because you never get too much paint at once....so yeah, it can take a while.😂 Just finishing up a static 1/32 F-105D all with MRP. And yeah ...my hand was hurting.

Thank you! I’m using a prismcut machine from us cutter. I’ve been very happy with it!
RBC Wood kits do a nice CNC kit of the F4D sized for 90mm edf. Would be an excellent basis to copy the paint job Chris has done here. Well done . 👍

This is the stuff amzn.to/3SiWhQ2 (oracal oramask 813)
