The entire interview was pure gold, absolute road map. Thank you kindly Mr. Garner, many times over. Learned a lot as always, but the last 9 minutes were amazing. Might have saved me 5 years of grief if I am being honest.
I hear searching for American bullies info. I’m new to it but to run across and hear about all these pitbulls made me smile. My older cousin and my barber back in 1995-2005 had hundreds of pitbulls. I love those dogs special companions and game dogs
I would just like to leave a comment about Mr Garner's character I am not much but he took time out for me years ago and answering questions and I am forever grateful for him for being the type of person that he is
Snooty-Eli was the cross when I got into bulldogs in the late 80's, but not for the reason most people were saying it was done, Tom told me it was done because the Eli dogs were fairly inbred and not very durable, he added the Snooty for "roughness", as a greenhorn I didn't know the difference between "hard mouth" and "rough" and Tom explained it to me, Spike and Chinaman were both Snooty-Eli crosses, me personally, and I'm not a dogman by any means, but that was my first love in bulldogs
Invaluable information. Salute to all of you. Would love to hear about different fenotypes and the advantages and disadvantages. Different hunting styles and styles of past dogs whilst hog hunting. Certain genetic traits that certain dogs possessed.
By far the best Dogman conversation and class at the same time to date.. From an old TN mountain boy. Thank you Mr. Garner for keeping the knowledge of our world going.
An easy way to look at phenotype vs. genotype is the phenotype you physically see (like blue eyes). The phenotype can be influenced by epigenetics and the environment but generally doesn't change the DNA sequence. The genotype is the possibilities (alleles) between both parents that potentially can be expressed (seen/phenotype).
Im thoroughly enjoying these interviews with Tom, although I've been out of the dogs for about 8 years now after 29 in the fancy. I've really got to commend Tom on this point. Tom is doing what Pat never did with greats like GR CH Buck from his line. By bringing back in blood from GR CH El Titere, and others of a bery high caliber, the selection stays at the top tier. That's the difference of keeping a sustainable family instead of being too arrogant or cheap to go outside of one's own yard.
Joe Bates did the Alligator x Eli crosses in the 90s. Ntense Kennels had Bates' Pork-E-Gator. After Bates went M.I.A they continued the breedings with Alligator x Nigerino crosses.
Thr Boudreaux/Carver cross was a great line also. Grady Cummings had those dogs. I had two of them and they were both keepers. Had a dog off of the Chinaman blood that was a superdog. Been a long time now but I've got a scatterbred housedog now. She'll keep the strangers honest and the coyotes know better.
Thank you for the response earier in the week about my Haystack dogs, I'm clear now on my direction to breed. I'm going to secure the future, with that being said in the event that Ray or Akuma aren't available physically will you have semen collected from each? Thank you
All I have is Alligator bulldogs from Hammonds. Tom's stock speaks for itself, but it was Hammonds Alligator stock for me. Nomos Hill Bulldogs of TN Home of the Hammonds strain of working Alligator bulldogs A.D.B.A Registered Kennel Real American Pit bull Terriers
This is a great question! I would love to know Tom's answer to this. It would start by deciding on what phenotypically ideal is. Most peoples standard is the Chinaman dog. So then what? Breed to more of that phenotype within the bloodline, or outside the bloodline? Go back and forth between Bullyson and Eli Jr type dogs? Go completely out for 1 generation (Hobbs Tuffy) and then back to Chinaman, but for how many more generations? The pedigrees show you what was right, but what should be done now?
I fed Ch Paladin for 9 months. His blood crossed extremely well into Eli blood, particularly Chivo and Midnight Cowboy. The shot of Reno (Sad Sack/Cotton's Bullet) in his pedigree sets the Eli blood on fire.
@@tomgarner54 I hate to hear that I figured it had to be something. It would've been great to have access to that blood as well as chinamans. I know if the cards were right you would've made it happen
Do not limit yourself to one or the other. Consider both. For example, Akuma and Drogo same genotype/pedigree (El Negro) different phenotype/individual (tall, fast, powerful wide receiver vs strong, rough, durable inside linebacker, respectively). If you want to win the Super Bowl you need both. Whether you get them from different bloodlines or within the same bloodline is a luxury we now have. I would lean heavily on the pedigree because that shows you the long term success that an individual cannot. We live in a YOLO society of right now, with 100,000 people having great individuals and only half a dozen people with 30 + years of building families, so of course everyone would like you to believe the individual is the only thing that matters. It gives them value that they do not have to work 50 years for. These are the people that say pedigrees don't matter.
Another great video, I would love to hear about some of Tom's favourite dogs he's had on his yard over the years, we know Frisco was his all time best producer but which dog would he consider his P4P best performance wise. Also what is the story of how Bolo ended up in a DMX video thanks.
I don't know why people are so concerned with the Rex dog, he is bred similar to the Red Boy dog, he just has T- Bud on the bottom.. Cottingham always used Eli blood nixed with the Outlaw dogs to get their hunting dogs.. What they never accomplished was a sustainable line off the crosses.. Good individuals pop up but not consistently.. As I was told by an old timer almost 50 years ago.. The test of time, will determine the value of the dogs or lines... Many lines are gone, either not valued at the moment and scattered or removed totally..
Across the Chinaman blackjack dog to one of your dogs the female governor dog and produce four of the best-looking dogs you see just did the same breeding again and got three great ones

Another great interview with lots of gems . Tom's knowledge on all aspects of the a.p.b.t is unmatched.
Other great breeders know this but Tom is intelligent enough and inquisitive enough to verbalize breeding pros and cons. Best APBT podcast out now
Wanted to say thank you to a legend. That bloodline is the truth.

The Breeding info in your video is 2nd to NONE. It's easy to understand the Ripple effect of your strategic planning. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for explaining this. I gotta come back up there
Another great 1 that's where I got lost in the lines but I think I did good but this knowledge is definitely key

Eli/Carver/RB/Jeep cross is a game changer
Liked how you explained phenotype vs genotype. Good analogy. 👍
Can you drop the time stamp so I can always go back in and reference it?

I wanna know what that jocko cross was
I'm about the age it's a bit late to secure the future, so I'm looking to enjoy the present🙂
Can we get some insight on feeding the yard, kibble or raw and the RF1 supplements.
Use all

Could you talk more about the Hickson dogs. Never hear much about this strain
Is there any way possible that we can get some info on the Cardenas blood he has? Good breeding matches? What his thoughts on that specific bloodline?
Looking real hard at adding some of your redboy to my yard… kinda torn between that or Ray Lewis… great podcast
I have enough red boy i need some of that ray lewis myself big fan of him
Both have some great blood, so you cannot lose.
My first time running across pitbulls was when my neighbor had snakes and this one brindle in Broward
Nascar is high drive he reminds me of ch gator and Marlowe's Mr bulldog just high drive animals
Thanks 💪🏾💯
Awesome video. One thing I would like to hear about is how ch chinaman was conditioned n what feed n supplements were used???
Damn that's an entire formula
Will u be able to keep the Titere crosses at 1500?
I would like to know what Garner thinks about the Golden Vein.
Also can you speak on Islero ? I had tried to breed to him a while back .

Was Ch Homer blood ever crossed with Frisco?
Good day sir. If longevity and solid temperaments are the traits youre looking for, which of your families would you recommend?
I think what people want to know is, when you find your phenotypically ideal specimen, what is the best way to get the most out of him/her.
I tolk Bobby Peru and put on the bottom he was very athletic had everything that you needed Conan I place him on the top he was very rough

What do you think of? Title bloodline
Are you sure you don't mean El Titere's bloodline?
What you think about tremor/chinaman
I would like to hear what Tom thinks about ch paliden
I fed Ch Paladin for 9 months. His blood crossed extremely well into Eli blood, particularly Chivo and Midnight Cowboy. The shot of Reno (Sad Sack/Cotton's Bullet) in his pedigree sets the Eli blood on fire.

So will you eventually use the Frisco semen yourself, or will it be passed onto the future generations?
