Fun watch. For our family, travel is nowhere near the top of our priority list at the moment. We really enjoy reducing stress and planning, and getting to enjoy the little moments closer to home.
One thing about Shayla, she gonna keep it real and come through with legit tips🥰
Living in Hawai’i with kids, (currently 2 weeks PP with #5) has meant we haven’t traveled off the island in years! In fact the last time I left the islands we had 1 6month old. But my family on the East coast is BEGGING for a family reunion so I’m trying to mentally prepare for an intercontinental trip with 5 kids 8 and under! 😱 These were helpful tips for traveling FROM Hawai’i too! 😄
Tbh, I didn’t notice the trash bag. lol! but that’s real life though. You’re moving stuff around, it makes since to have things laying around.
Thank you for sharing the journaling idea! I love that for getting in the right mindset. My husband, my two-year-old, and I travel a lot for work and family. Flights stress me out so bad! I would LOVE tips for entertaining kids and managing stress in the airport 😅
Great video and lots of general travel good tips wherever you go. Last year we did 3 weeks in Puerto Rico and we brought my mom to help - this was a great idea! This winter We took our toddler to Mexico for 6 weeks (we work remotely) just the 3 of us, while I was 20-26 weeks pregnant. I highly recommend Mexico with kids - we were going to do all inclusive then realized for the price of one week we could do 6 in a nice 2 bedroom condo with a pool walking distance to everything. Also the food is so good and cheap and restaurants and food stands are everywhere so food was very easy. We did make breakfast in our condo everyday - so much fun walking with my daughter every morning to the nearby fruit market and tienda for fresh ingredients . We did not bring a stroller and did not miss it: if u decide u need one there are super Walmarts and coscos in Mexico too! Next year we are planning 6 weeks in Vietnam with our baby + 3.5 year old. The scariest most stressful part is before you leave your front door!
I love the trash bag in the background! Yesterday I walked through my livingroom, and there was a dirty diaper on the floor, and I was like, "what is happening today!?"
Filing away these tips for our upcoming first trip with a baby/toddler!
I actually was thinking as you talked about how you didn't do a lot of activities beyond going to the beach/pool that going to Mexico would be a great alternative and probably much cheaper. Look into Puerto Vallarta for your next trip! I might be biased bc it's where I grew up, but I think it is similarly cool to Hawaii with the lush jungle mountains meeting the sea and all!
This is actually very helpful, we’re due with our second baby in September and planning a trip to Curaçao from Canada with family in November. So we’ll have a 1.5 year old and a 2 month old. I’ve never been on a trip before so have no idea what to expect and the thought of running on an almost newborns schedule while on a “relaxing” vacation with a toddler sounds stressful. But when you said travelling with a baby under 4 months is ideal, it made me feel better and gave me some motivation lol we are staying at an all inclusive! Hopefully we won’t be locked to our room and can enjoy the beach and sun as much as possible.
No way! Strap that baby to you! Baby will nap anywhere before 4 months usually!
Super helpful. Super encouraging. I'm working on getting pregnant with my second and we're cosleeping with my first for probably all the reasons you are (attachment, emotional development, convenience, etc)... And hearing you talk about cosleeping with both of your girls is super helpful and super encouraging. I know that's obviously not what this video was about, but I cling to every word you ever say about cosleeping and laying with your girls while they fall asleep because it's my reality right now. My heart tells me it's not time to "train" my babe to sleep on his own but literally everyone I know thinks I'm nuts bc he's 17 months old now. BRB gonna rewatch your cosleeping podcast lol.
Oh goodness! My heart hurts for you knowing people are telling you to train your baby to sleep. I got a lot of judgement for cosleeping. It wasn't until my 3rd baby that I just owned it. He sleeps with me, he's 10 months, my 3 year old sleeps with us, and sometimes my 5 year old...
@@carolinastorelli5073 thank you so much for this comment!
It’s hard at first but bedtime is like a sacred time to me where we get to connect after the day and snuggle up. Read a book, we make up stories, pray or say our fav parts of the day or I say my favorite things about the girls and then we all fall asleep. Some nights are nuts but I really have learned to love it so much.
In his book ‘The Sears Baby Book,’ Dr. Sears says they’re ready to sleep on their own at around 2 or 3 years old
My four year old still sleeps with us. It's been so special. Plan to continue for as long as he wants to! People think it's weird but I think it's weird to force kids to sleep alone if they don't want to, and then to have to get up out of bed multiple times a night to comfort them! Much rather he can just crawl over to me or my husband and feel safe and supported. It's also so great if he's ill because we're right there with the bucket, or the drink or the medicine. Go with your gut and be proud you're making the decisions that are right for your family ❤️
Great tips! I came back from Portugal and had similar way to think. Mindset is the biggest as you said!
The advice about traveling within the first four months with your first is SO true! I remember thinking it’ll forever be simple to travel with a baby …and then he got older. 😅 Love your videos!
Haha right?! Once their mobile you’re like woof this is a different ball game. Then they have their own opinions 😅😅😅😂
Would love another video on baby led weaning
Shayla, on point with your advice 👌 as usual.
Leaving for Tuscany next month with a 17 month old. I'm having kittens about how I'm going to keep her entertained (and seated!) on the flight. Journaling in advance and mindset, noted! You're the best, thanks Shayla!x
American Airlines specifically is a stickler about the wagon is not a stroller. We bought a wagon that collapses down as small as a carry on and we always carry the wagon on now as one of our carry ons, because of having been made to check it before.
We went to Taiwan for five weeks with our four year old and one year old this February. I was 30-35 weeks pregnant during that trip. Jet lag was definitely a Factor, but it was totally worth it.
We leave to HI on Saturday with my 15-month old. so this video couldn’t be more timely. THANK YOU!
I like the idea of journaling as it happens ❤
Thanks Shayla- I’m currently trip planning for my toddler who is 18 mos… We went to the Caribbean when she was 3 months and she was great on the plane and the beach. I was worried about traveling while she’s 2
Thank you so much for the tips. My wife and I started back traveling when our daughter was 6 months old. Would have sooner, but she was a pandemic baby.
We are starting to plan our next baby. We know we want to take a trip to Belgium soon to stay for a bit. Trying to decide if we should pre baby #2 or post
We took our 15 month old to Oahu for a month last year. We flew from Texas so it was also a long flight and big time difference. I definitely feel like the number one tip is to manage your expectations. Our daughter is a very challenging sleeping and she didn’t sleep at all the entire flight there and didn’t take a single car nap the entire month we were there. We were mentally prepared to be at our place for naps or an early bedtime. Traveling with toddlers is pretty hard, but definitely worth it. (She also got 3/4 molars on that trip which was great😅)
Agree 1000%
I’m glad you had a good time! 🌴 🌊
100% mindset is #1.
We were there 🥰 it’s their vacation 😂🎉
fun
Sending this video to my husband!
More on the sleep situation! My little one will be 20 months when baby is due in August. He sleeps in a sidesleeper next to our bed, but comes up halfway through the night. Nurses sometimes, but not all of the time at night just to get settled. He won’t just cuddle with Daddy, so I’m not sure how this is going to work! I’m scared!!! He naps in the crib during the day. Maybe he will have a big shift in the next month or so 🙏🏽 He has slept through the night just once so far, but he is getting close!
It’s kind of incredible how it all works out. Don’t get me wrong there is an adjustment period but they understand a lot. Figure out your ideal situation and keep that in your mind
I got a flip book! 😀😀😀
Yay!!!!
Oh man, so with your hubby (if this was his reasoning 😹) helicopters are a NO for me. So. So dangerous. That being said my dad flew me and my sisters up in one when we were little! 😹🤷♀️
I had a question pop in my head today, can you use a carrier while pregnant? I never thought about it!
Depends on the carrier! I use a style called onbuhimo lots of brands have this style. And that has no waist band.
I’ve also seen ppl do the waist band under their belly for a back carry.
So yes and it depends lol
@@heyshayla ok, thanks! I feel like I just have to dive into the sibling journey slightly blind, this helps!
Dont know why im watching this. I libe in Europe and dont plan on flying anymore.
Cause shayla is awesome! Haha
