I’m finding myself so pleasantly surprised by Jason’s level of engagement here. I feel his intent to be honest with Ali and us the audience, ask questions he’s truly curious about, and it helps that he clearly is a real fan of Ali’s show Beef. As someone who also loved Beef, a show that is about so many things, Jason’s main takeaway being that we are all ultimately the same, I feel, sheds light on his resolve towards empathy. What a lovely interview.
"When you’re around somebody you admire, don’t be a fan, be an interviewer and ask them every question that you think will be helpful to you on your journey." Solid advice :)
same. he has this air of just being so into his work without being obsessive nor snobbish. this is just a really passionate guy that loves music and acting and creating content.
I freaking love Jason Segel. This guy is a powerhouse of an actor. Every since I watched him play David Foster Wallace I am fascinated by his honesty and humility. I think his whole transformation into becoming an actual dramatic actor has really shown people how capable and authentic he can be when he gets the opportunity to play something that really touches peoples hearts.
I agree, she was really great but Elizabeth Olsen will most likely win that. This year has so many incredible performances, I personally want Bella Ramsey to win something.
Yeah, what is going on here? Is this where the simulation gets crossed up and we only get this interview between these two incredible actors!? A series and movie please!
Ali looks so freaking beautiful omg and the way they spoke and listened to each other is just really captivating....seriously imma need to know who the hell is behind the pairings of the Actors on Actors because damn seriously just loving it
this is hands down my favorite in the actors on actors series. very genuine and earnest, like two friends catching up with each other. it almost felt like a therapy session. maybe because both of their voices are so calm and relaxing? 😂
I simply can not rave enough about Jason Segel. He is the most genuine person, his work the last couple of years has been so great, so personal and touching- we need to see him in more things like Shrinking, he's got it.
Beef and Shrinking were both excellent series. Shrinking will go on, Beef was very interesting and unique in a way. All the best to you both Jason and Ali. Thanks for this conversation and all your acting and comedy.
These are two of my favorite entertainers of all time. Heart centered Jason and firey Ali. Thanks for this Variety and u two for helping me feel my own emotions.
This is the interview I was looking forward to the most! These have become my favorite series of the year. The honesty in their conversation was UGH AMAZING! Jason Segal is forever the best human.
out of every ‘Actors on Actors’ thus far (save for Chris & Scarlett, Emma & Timotheé, and Jennifer & Viola 😅) i have never wanted a conversation to go for another 12+ hours. this was such a perfect paring. someone PLEASE get them in a project together! their minds combined might create actual magic.
I’m so mad at you for still being in love with a heart who hurt a better heart this much. I hate this for you. When I literally could have recruited models to arrange a Beiber marriage for you. Unbelievable that you never protected your twin heart. Simply in UTTER disbelief about how dumb your smartass could be. Tried so hard for years and many mental illness kid cutty times to convince myself it wasn’t the case and you still to this day on Repeat. It’s sickness and the truest definition of insanity that you’re not at my house quelling my rage about it right now. It’s more Horrible friendship from you.
I’ve watched many of these and this is my favorite. Both were so engaged and articulate. They come off as either goofballs or abrasive and both were so soothing to watch.
Very engaging conversation! Love these couplings that Variety comes up with. FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL is a favorite movie, one I can watch repeatedly, lol. Jason Segel’s voice in this conversation surprised me - doesn’t sound like the same voice (lower) in the movie. I wouldn’t have recognized it if there was no video.
Thank you Ali, for being an inspiration to be bold and a force of nature, and thank you Jason for opening your heart and soul. So emotionally intelligent and giving. I find him really touching. Incredible energies and interaction here. Beef was GREAT and I can't wait to unfold Jason's performance in Shrinking. I loved him since HIMYM and always thought his comedic performance (timing and devoted intensity) was on a level near David Schwimmer in Friends or Max in New Girl. Still laughing thinking about his face's expressions as Marshall lol. Really excited to see further his range
I would've loved if he talked a bit more about growing as an actor while working on HIMYM. In season 6 Jason really proved that he can do way more than great comedy and also make us sob like a baby.
@@ThePantheons I mean I’ve just never heard of them mentioning each other or being in anything together so it just seemed pretty random to me lol. I’ve always liked them both but it just never crossed my mind how cool it would be to see them together. It’s a great pairing.
Over the years I've heard of so many stories of encounters fans had when they saw Jason out in public. None of them have been pleasant. But the stories truly felt and came off like he was struggling with something internal. Then he disappeared for a long time, and I honestly wondered if he was okay. He's such a deep and passionate person, I love thats getting acknowledged more often now and that he's doing more interviews and shows. He's definitely one of the good ones. *** I'm not implying or suggesting he owes random people a pleasant and happy experience just because he was reckognized on the streets or simply because he's famous, he doesn't (nor does any actor!). Sometimes fans don't respect boundaries.
He wanted to get the heck out of LA, moved to NY, and wound up in a relationship with an artist woman for 8 years. They broke up in 2021, during the pandemic. So it took a while for him to get past, and in the process, at some point, was approached by Bill Lawrence about co-creating what we know as "Shrinking." He moved back to Cali (his parents still live in LA), but has said he has a place in Ojai. He also said in "Shrinking" interviews that he has a place near Pasadena. He's got demons like everybody else...and also happens to have tons of money to allow himself to take his time creating new things.
Loved this episode so much. Jason is forever so loveable, thoughtful, and present. Ali is forever my twin (girl I fully want to be Harrison Ford, sitting, telling jokes lol). Ali is so authentic and honest. Comedians always know how to get an audience invested. (some of these episodes with some actors are soooo boring and way too artsy you have no clue what the heck they're talking about). I could listen to Jason and Ali talk about almost anything for hours!
I loved BEEF so much. Great acting, so funny and touching, complex, with so many layers... Probably the best thing I've seen this year (along with The Bear (which I saw this year lol)). And I ADORE Jason. He's so honest and soft in the best best ways, I can't wait to see Shrinking.
This was really good. A fan of both, particularly Jason who I had 3 different callbacks for, for the show Dispatchers From Elsewhere. Love to see Artists being free and interacting with each other. Kudos🙏🏿
i couldn't imagine any other actor as Marshall, he did an amazing job! I definitely have to see his recent work and Beef, but i loved this one, probably one of my favorites, their conversation felt very genuine and they were listening very closely to each other, it was great! :)
I love both of them. But my question is for Jason. When will we get a stand alone Dracula musical? Whenever I have a bad day, that clip always cheers me up.
Same, Jason. I might be a mess in my personal life, but professionally, no. And I'm a Shrink! No, zero, issues in my work. Love your new show! Love you and Ali!
Love them both as actors so much. Ali really made me think that maybe the things you can’t do, are just things that aren’t meant for you, and that’s okay
I love the guy who is the husband of his nighbour ...I guess hes also his neigbour but he goes "GREAT ASS but DO SQUATS" I'll remember and will use it for ever
You guys - I love you both. Ali - I'm really proud of this anger we have to strangers but the truth we find in "they are just like us" - if only, if only this nugget would catch on.

😮. I m okooo😅
I could listen to Jason talk all day. He chooses his words so thoughtfully and has a way of expressing himself that hits me in the chest.

I have such a soft spot for Jason. He seem so kind and gentle but with an underlying melancholy.
He seems awesome.
Yes! .. melancholy is the word I’ve been looking for
helps that hes a babe lol
Ali Wong deserves the Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for Beef. She was incredible.
I agree, she was really great but Elizabeth Olsen will most likely win that. This year has so many incredible performances, I personally want Bella Ramsey to win something.
It’s not a limited series it has a second season in the works
@@thiccyniccy4013that's great news!! I thought it was a mini series
David Choe stole the entire series
Lol
BEEF and Shrinking are easily 2 of the best shows of the past decade. Love these two so much, their talent is off the charts
Okay, give them a show together IMMEDIATELY!
Yes, please! ❤

A movie as well!

Her hair was so on point. Who doesn't love an epic good hair day?
And the lip color, flawless skin, and outfit.

Great assessment I sensed the same about them
This was my favorite pairing in this series this year. You can tell they had chemistry and flowed with each other in the topics. 🙌🏽🤩
