@@funklover24 I just looked who I typed at, and it doesn't appear to be you. It appears the guy I typed at, is the one who claims this virtuoso on piano was his piano teacher. Who are you? man i saw this gig in geneva , new morning , i was very young but it was great ! michael urbaniak on violin , cobham , stern goldstein and timlanders on bass !
AND, Mike is getting ALL the feel and tone out of that Stratocaster to do what he's doing too. What's the matter? You don't understand? No surprise there. Most of you goofs on youtube, who think you know about guitar, who never have, and you never will, think you have it all pegged. You goofs think you have it all figured out. @@gilldavidmour4199 Well, ya know, it's a very long subject that has really never been covered. So much detail. Therefore, perhaps you could help me out with the title of my book. The present title of my book is: "What Guitar Players Think They Know About Guitars, but Very Very Few of them Actually do Know Anything, and They Never Will." That's kind of a long title, isn't it? Therefore, just like music, I have to figure out a way of condensing it and rephrasing it. Just like phrases in music.
No, the best thing that can be said of Mike Stern is that he writes great tunes, mixes rock and bop deftly, is a wonderful teacher, and is nicer than you.
Insane. What f#$&ing band! Mike motherf$#&ing stern! Seen him a million times but not this long ago. My god. The hair and fashion on violin dude awesomely dorky too. Thats that polish cat-i forget his name…anyhow. His beret and cheesy tux shirt give jazz and fusion a bad name but he plays his ass off! Lol
Cobham one of the greatest drummers of all time . The piano solo was a good example of early 20th century classical composer and theorist Walter Piston's combining tonal and atonal music. Only reservation I have about "jazz fusion" like this song and that of lets say John McLaughlin's is the overdrive tempo . for me anyway , the intense speed takes a bit away from their playing

great to see hear Gil Goldstein who was my piano teacher around that time!!
You mean to tell me this virtuoso actually managed to find the time to deal with the likes of you? Are you flippin' serious?!

i was waitin to the new morning door mike stern came , man he is very tall ! i remember , a tall guy !
and he played a strat not a telé !!
Cobham is a Giant. Maybe the best stick man ever along with Tony Williams
Two of the greatest I have been listening to Miles Smiles what a killer album
yup, Billy and Tony what a pair, I saw Tony multiple times, never disappointed. Billy once , he was incredible with M O.
Don't forget Lenny White
I don’t think Billy Cobham has done anything new on the drums since 1973. Tony Williams kept on growing.
Ever hear of Buddy Rich? Steve Gadd?
Music is art. Art is music. No place for competition in art. Nevertheless, fusion sprouted from heavy competition. It was fantastic.
I wanna play geetar like that.........!!!
Me too!
Great piano solo followed by duelling drum and guitar solo finished off with swinging violin solo. Great Stuff.
Nice to hear Stern without the chorus pedal for once.
You want to hear a video where he is with Miles again, dimwit?
ha ha - yea
That was very funny!
Mike actually had some meat on his bones. Big fan.
@@OldRunt Yep hence his nickname "Fat Time" given to him by Miles Davis.
What a band. Amazing piano
ya think?
Amazing performance!
A young Mike Stern.... he's coming to Oakland California in a few month's.
Where’s saw him, well, technically, it was up in Concord . . .
This is great. Thanks for this.
Here is why Miles gave Stern the nick name "Fat Time"
A great band. Mike on the best form I’ve heard him.
Masters.
Mike Stern with Strat

Good God, Mike Stern is killing here!!! Pat Metheny must be a very proud teacher!
He sounds better without chorus 🎸😉
List the musicians for gods sake
Billy Cobham - Drums; Michal Urbaniak - Violin; Mike Stern - Guitar; Tim Landers - Bass; Gil Goldstein - Piano.
Masters of their Instruments! Modern Jazz
It sounds like "Return to Forever"
"Their". "They're" is the contraction for "they are".

Sterns guitar speed has to be explained using one of those Einstein speed of light physic equations
Mike before he got sober, lost weight, and discovered chorus pedals 🤭
2:20 early 😁Helge Schneider on piano? Cool!
Tim Landers on bass

Michael Urbaniak on violin
And here's the info which I was seeking. Thanks, mate!
To all the chorus effect commenters, development of the chorus effect was anticipated by Mike Stern's playing style. Yeah.
Ritchie Blackmore on the bass and Frank Zappa pounding the piano...
and I thought it was tim Landers and gil Goldstein.....HUH! fooled me!
Lol....I had to do a double take! 😎✌️
It's Gil Goldstein
🤣😳
Neil the Hippie from "The Young Ones" on guitar. Bubba Smith on drums.
Sounds like NJ Turnpike, morning rush hour 😢
That would be Gil Goldstein on piano

Hey i just thought something. Stern looks like Ozzy here 😳
Great concert. I prefer when Mike played on Strat his tone was more brillant and accurate.
I guess this is before Stern could afford a chorus pedal.

ouch
Gil Goldstein can’t swing… problem
