Troy's song Scream is actually one of the best numbers in a Disney musical and defintiely one of the best scenes in the franchise
Kelly Wilson Ikr
My favorite Troy Bolton song!😍
In my opinion, the best songs come from the third movie.
My favorite song
As someone who doesn't live in the US, I am 100% certain that this is exactly what American high schools look like.
Yes.
Very correct. *BREAKS OUT INTO SONG*
S A M E
Used to look like. Not like that today
Androo Gnoix just add some cops and metal detectors and you are set
only in some schools. you do realize that everything you beleive isnt what exists, right?
HSM is corny but at the same time HSM is the only disney channel teen musical I can remember caring about and the fact that the got me caring for 3 movies is quite impressive
MakeAcid I agree!
I really liked the first Camp Rock even though it’s not as good or iconic as HSM
I may not care for any of the High School Musical movies nowadays, but back when I was younger, I really enjoyed them. As you said, they are corny and dumb, yet they also harmless and they show a lot of creativity. The reason why I don't care for them nowadays is that I've seen a lot of other movies that are a lot more fun than these movies. Nowadays, I see High School Musical as something fun to look back on. I don't think they're worth watching again, but they will remain good memories to me.
Same here. I watched it in seventh grade and got into it. Peer pressure is what made me hate it. Now i look back and theyre not thaaaat bad
+Jack Stevenson when i was young i watched them and i was bored out of my mind it didn't entertain me when i was 6 and it doesn't entertain me now
Jack Stevenson I remember when I was eight, my cousins gave it to me as a gag gift... but when I watched it... it didn't....suck....that bad
I loved them and I still do. I loved them because of the corny dumbness. It was delicious!
Everybody in the comments keeps saying "it's not December anymore". These aren't from Disneycember 2015. These are videos from previous Disneycembers, these are years old reviews that Doug is just now re-uploading. That's why they're coming out on January.
TotalSaxSap i swear he has uploaded some of his videos 2 - 3 times already
+MRacer001 I think it's because RUclips has taken some of them down I think. Some of his fans have also reposted some of his reviews.
+TotalSaxSap To be fair, the description still says it aired in January.
+TheDanteEX True! The confusion is understandable. I hope things are cleared up now :-)
+TheDanteEX After Disneycember he sometimes does a few "by popular demand" reviews in January. They're still a part of Disneycember technically.
When I watch the movie now, it is actually true when Doug said that this and many High School entertainment are time capsules. HSM 3 came out when many older millennials (1980-1990) and the younger millennials (1991-1999) were going through transitions. The bad economy was just hitting and this movie came out when the whole millennial argument was beginning to take shape. Many young people were having possible optimism of the future ahead. But once the 2010s hit, it crashed an burned. In many ways, HSM 3 showed the closure of millennial idealism. 2008-2009 was the end of an era. Despite that those born between 1991-1999 would be graduating in the 2010s decade, they were growing up with their older millennial peers from the 80s.
80s and 90s are not millenials. 2000s are literally millenials
@@macrocosmique Absolutely wrong. Millennials aren't people who were BORN in the millennium year, but people who became teenagers/adults on or around the millennium year. Therefore, millennials are those who were pretty much born between the early 80s and the early 90s.
I remember watching all 3 HSM movies and thinking high school is gonna be just like this,it's gonna be amazing. Once I got to high school I was like "damn I was off" LMAO 😂. I still like high school musical though
Heh, highschool is nothing close..hell, I haven't seen a highschool show that is close.
Oh gods, the only way a show can be close to high school is if it's filled to the brim with nervous breakdowns about your future and college applications and seeing if your grades are good enough to pass the year
But then again, I went to an ultra competitive one way back in the day
Hats off to you. I love all three of them.
Same
+Ms. Service Not me!
The second was bad...but one and three are pretty good.
+Rachana Baditha The second one was my favorite. Although the Sharpay revision of You Are The Music In Me has ALWAYS made me cringe. I was around the age of 10 or 11 when HSM 2 came out and now I'm 19. I found it cringe-worthy when I saw that scene then, I find it cringe-worthy now. The rest is good, though. Great, even. Bet On It used to be my favorite song and it's still among my top 10 or top 5.
+Ms. Service Dreamworksuary - Shawn the Sheep
Damn I wish high school was actually like high school musical. Would've been much easier considering it looks like the characters take 3 classes tops lol
Neon. Lol Fr. Like why did they have Ms. Darbus for two years and what exactly was she teaching? I understand she teaches theatre but why were the basketball players in that class in the first movie if they hated theatre. I’m sure theatre isn’t a required class. And also if only I could be in class with all my friends. I’d have to get lucky enough to be scheduled in a class with at least one of them.
I'll be honest, I've seen the first two High School Musicals, but I've never seen the third, and I'll always remember the ones I saw as decent. They weren't fantastic, they weren't horrible, they were decent. But I do have something to admit:
Despite all of this, High School Musical will is very important to me! Why? Two reasons.
When I was young, my grandmother was getting married and she wanted me to sing at her wedding. I of course did, and what song did I sing? What I've Been Looking For! And it broke her heart (in a good way)!
And when I was a Freshman in High School, the director of the School's annual musical convinced me (almost forced me) to audition for that year's musical. Take ONE guess as to what it was... High School Musical! I auditioned, got casted to play Ripper (the skater who played the cello), and had more fun in 3 months than I had ever had in 9 years of school! Now I'm going to be an actor!
High School Musical may not be the greatest movie Disney ever made, but it will always hold a certain spot in my heart. It let me take part in my grandmother's wedding, it started my career as an actor, and I will never forget it!
Will you watch the 3rd one?
Vits Vicente Torres I want to. I'd like to see how it all plays out. I was a kid when the first two came out, and I loved them back then. It's be nice to see a proper ending.
I should also make time to watch the third one since I also never saw it
Wow, HSM inspired you to become an actor? That's a feels good story right there!
Ok I'm gonna be honest here. I'm a straight guy, saw all 3 on my own, it was my decision, had no Girlfriend yet ... & I actually enjoyed all 3. Admitedly saw them out of morbid curiosity build up from their infamy but... Yeah I liked them. Not gonna watch again, will make fun of them. Still actually liked them. Did Anyone else had that too?
+yugoxgc I like them all too. All the respect!
+yugoxgc no point in clarifying you're straight.
Rafael Arévalo How would I find out if there were more straight guys who liked these if I didn't say that? -_-
+yugoxgc Because gender preference isn't a deciding factor in what people like other than gender?
Miranda St. Claire Again just Saying what general Kind of parson I am to see if more ppl like me respond. Is that really so hard to understand?
The High School Musical movies were such a big part of my childhood that they will always have a special place in my heart. I still actually have an annual of these movies just because of nostalgia. (Also I still know all the songs by heart!) :P
I can definitely see this film becoming a Broadway production in the future
High school musical wasn't meant to make kids think this is what it'll be like to be a teenager, it's meant to make kids feel like they are teenagers.
I haven't even seen all these movies but I still know the songs
Sorry Doug, but I'm part of the angry, vocal group of people who HATED 'High School Musical', and others like lit. (Including 'Hanna Montana', 'Lizzie McGuire', 'Camp Rock', and all the other 'tween' junk that Disney Channel has been spewing out this past decade.) I'll give you props for explaining your reasons, but those movies are still crap! Even if I was in the target demographic, I would still call it garbage! I'm sorry, but after seeing this crap, my response is 'Can we just have The Disney Afternoon' again?! Disney Channel is an embarrassment, and they need to STOP making this stupid 'tween' bullshit!
+Marc Baker I agree fully.. just wanted to say.. wish I had the money they wasted on these things, I'd actually use it for something useful..
Also disliked Saved By The Bell, and Grease, and I'm not that much younger than Doug..so I supposed it isn't a generational bias..
Miranda St. Claire While I'm not a fan of 'Saved By The Bell', or 'Grease', I'd rather watch those over 'High School Musical'.
+Luke 'Caomhnóir' S-C frozen is actually more realistic and it was a Cartoon
I think a lot of the hate for this movie comes from the fact that this is the third film in a really cheesy trilogy. There's only so much corniness we can take. I'm pretty sure this is why Doug can't say he hates this movie.
If he watched all three together, he'd probably go into insane Nostalgia Critic mode here.
+Jonah Cruz You now have me hoping that he has a HSM marathon viewing and reviewing episode
+writerspen010 Now you have me hoping too.
yeah, but it's also good to take a movie standalone. So it shows that you don't watch more than just this one.
It's silly but harmless and there's so much worse stuff out there, and every generation has their stupid stuff.
hsm is this generation's sbtb. love or hate as it is.
+Jonah Cruz Please don't suggest that ever again.
That's like Nazi style torture.
+Jonah Cruz I like the idea of Nostalgia Critic being Doug's second personality that he snaps into when he's enraged.
My theater teacher made the class watch High School Musical back when it was new. Afterwards she gave us a quiz on it to make sure we paid attention and the final question was:
'What was your favorite part?'
And I answered 'When it was over.'
She got so pissed.
LOL Savage.
If I were a teacher, I'd give you a 105 percent for that answer alone. Though I would've shown something better instead.
I can’t tell which is funnier the answer you gave, your teacher’s reaction, or the fact that she actually took the time to make a quiz for this damn film 😂
I feel like the reason this movie got all the hate is because (as someone growing up with the first 2 movies), by the time this one came out, a lot of my generation was starting to realize how goofy and silly the first 2 movies were. So when they announced a third movie that you could only see in theaters, most of us were like, "pffft, hell no," and moved on.
totally agree! I was 10 when this came out and went to see it at the cinema but even at that age I was getting bored of the cliches of high school musical and it used to be good, I loved the second one, the third one didn't bring anything new or fun and yeah I was just too fed up with the third one and didn't enjoy it when I watched it
This movie hits me to hard right now because im a senior
Kelly H Same! I know I'm gonna go back and watch all 3 of these movies at some point before I graduate. Cx
David Pottinger its a tear jerker
I watched this movie the night I graduated and cried my eyes out lol
I jsut want to thank you for doing these every year. They've become part of my tradition of packing up to go home, and they help me stay grounded during the packing and chaos. I really enjoy watching disney vids with you.
I saw this in theatres in grade 3. I watched it again as i was graduating high school and I found I related to every aspect of the movie. Believe it or not this movie gives you something to come back to
i was 11 when this came out. i was in fifth grade and all my friends and families went to go see this. it was such a huge deal.
...btw, Nostalgia Critic and High School Musical officially take place in the same universe.
Troy and other HSM characters met Kim Possible in Just Dance Disney Channel edition; she met Lilo & Stitch in one episode of the show, and they are part of the Kingdom Hearts Universe, where there also are Final Fantasy characters; Final Fantasy characters also appeared in Mario Sports Mix, where there also is Wario, which had a crossover with Bomberman on Game Boy; Bomberman met the Destructoid robot in Bomberman Live! while the Destructoid Robot met none other than The Critic's nemesis (or one of his nemesises), The Nerd in AVGN adventures.
So there you go: same universe.
... Why does that make so much sense?
+KrossoverGod Oh, that means Hannah Montana and Nostalgia Critic are in the same universe too, because in a Disney Channel promo, they did a crossover where Troy and co. met up with Miley, Lily, and Olliver and taught them All In This Together.
TallMist
Well, to be honest in that promo they never called any of the characters by name, so we can't say for sure that it's Troy, Gabriella and Sharpay rather than the respective actors...
But either way Hanna Montana is in Just Dance Disney Channel Edition too, so she's still connected by the same link.
This of course also connects Zack & Cody and Wizards of Weaverly too, since they had a crossover.
KrossoverGod That also connects That's So Raven and Cory in the House, because TSR had a cross over with Suite Life. Also one of the brands that London Tipton likes to wear (Artillo Vertali, I think) was mentioned in Jessie and the fact that I hear Jessie actually visited the Tipton and spoke with Moseby where Moseby calls Cody and said Jessie looks a lot like Bailey, meaning that's connected to Wizards of Waverly Place since Wizards is connected to Suite Life meaning Good Luck Charlie is a part of it too, because they had a crossover with Jessie and Good Luck Charlie had a crossover with Shake It Up so THEY are connected too.
Jesus Christ almighty.
+TallMist yep they are connected to Hannah Montana because it had a crossover with "That's so Raven" and Suite Life of Zack and Cody called That's So Suite Life of Hannah Montana and it is also connected to Shake it Up because Good Luck Charlie had a crossover with Shake it up so Shake it up is in the same universe as Jessie and In Zack and Cody, Wizards of Waverly Place Wow we are such Nerds Horray :D
I was really young when these movies came out, but I never stopped watching them throughout my childhood. I was really snotty kid who hated things when they got too popular, but these movies were always in my heart. Up to this day (I'm fifteen) I still watch them with my friends and we all know the songs off by heart and sing along. Almost everyone I've met my age has a similar experience with the trilogy, regardless of gender or whatever else. It's like the glue of my generation. Ugh, I just really love these films
Knowing that the first High School Musical came out 10 years ago kind of breaks my heart. Lol, I still remember being like 6 years old watching High School Musical the first night it came on Disney Channel, it was a huge thing back than. It really makes me think, where did my childhood go?
Interestingly, I half-grew up with these movies. When I was in elementary school, these movies were the big thing with my classmates... and, honestly, that was my first experience with ELITISM. As in, my own elitism. I felt like I was "too good" for HSM and refused to watch the movies, even though all my friends loved them, and I didn't like to admit when I actually liked any of the songs when I heard them. It was a strange precursor to the elitism I later had in middle school (which was of the more extreme anti-millenial variety despite having grown up in the early 2000's myself).
Heh, that reminds me of my childhood "elitism". I also didn't wanna watch shows like this. It was too corny. I was into cool music like trip hop and art rock. I didn't wanna submit myself to over the top pop music unrealistically performed by people at the most random times. I was definitely out of place amongst the class.
Thanks Doug, now that song in the backgroung is stuck in my head again. It's cheesy as hell but by god is it catchy !
High school musical was the shit in grade school. First saw it in kindergarten, rewatched the whole thing in sixth grade
lemon kirby same but now in sixth grade it makes me literally vomit
Just stopping by to tell you that this was made for people your age. For some reason your generation feel like you have to grow up way too fast. It's ok to like stuff like this, you don't have to rush into adulthood!
Never seen a single one of these when I was a kid and still don't care.
Do you want a cookie?
Ryan Gorman I wouldn't mind one
Can i have one too?
+Jose Marques I'll give you one.
HSM2 was the most watched Disney Channel program of all time. Last I checked at least.
My 80 year old father loved the High School Musical movies and so do I.
Y'know, I watched High School Musical movies to laugh at in college, but really, they were pretty entertaining. They did all the cliches, but seemed to really put their all into it and they were colorful and upbeat. Really, movies like this both interest and irritate me. Maybe irritated because I did like them more than I thought I would. No lie, if I was asked to be in one, I'd have jumped at the chance no questions asked. No matter how cheesy, I'd like to be one of those impossible pretty cast members. And dancing is always fun. Every character is just the most enviable version of their stereotype you could possibly get. You hate them for it but secretly wish you were one of them.
I was way into HSM as a kid and my mom and I went to see this in theaters and we were both so into it...a couple weeks ago it was on TV and we watched it together again, it was really fun to revisit now that I'm almost out of college...I'll always love these movies
Hates Moulin rouge, but likes this? Your a phenomena Doug.
*you're
Didn't really say he "liked" it. That he can tolerate it as harmless fluff is the gist what he said. That's a far cry from truly "liking" something. He said he wouldn't watch it again, but he also says that those who do like/love it are not really wrong for doing so(then again it should never be wrong in the first place as it is all subjective opinion). I myself love all three still and I was 20 going on 21 when the first one came out and I love them for their fluffiness. Sometimes it's just what the doctor ordered.
I can't believe they looped "Now or Never" for the whole 7 minute video. I didn't even register it properly until the end when it hit me the song had been playing constantly the whole time. Guess I'll just have that stuck in my head forever now...
I think this is the best HSM movie! The songs are amazing and I think the story is pretty good. I left school a few years ago and I know the struggle they're going through (I feel it until this day). I can relate to it very well.
High School Musical first came out while I was in kindergarten, and ended when I would've been in, what you Americans say, 2nd grade. I liked it back then because
A) It was on Disney Channel, which was practically the Nickelodeon of the mid-late '00s
B) I found the songs to be pretty decent, and
C) I was also fond of shows like Hannah Montanna, but then again, I was 7 when the High School Musical franchise ended.
I now hate it because
A) The plots are boring and pretentious
B) In 3 or 4 years, people are going to be nostalgic over it like crazy, like Nick earlier this decade, and
C) Most of the actors hadn't really found their voice/gotten good at acting, yet.
Funny how time flies.
BTW, Happy Tenth Anniversary, HSM1!
Wait, this movie is 10 years old? How!?
The first one is.
Okay it's not going to surprise anyone that I, like 99% of the human race, don't like HSM. However I don't like it because, looking past the cheesiness and such, it simply misses the most important part of high school in my experience. The discovery of personal vice. To me the geist of high school is learning what will hold you for the rest of your life and how to deal with the fact that there are things in this world that you will love to let harm you. Everyone has them and everyone I knew in high school was finding these things at that time and at least beginning to learn how to handle them.
I just wish someone would make a movie about that, while still keeping the lightheartedness and charm of something like HSM so as to appeal to a younger audience. Kids should go to high school realizing that they will be handling things they probably swore never to touch in earlier grades and they will have to cope with the psychological and physical stress of these vices.
Or maybe that's too much for younger audiences and that's why I don't make film.
Hey! That's the same percentage as terrible people in the human race! Is this a secret masterpiece!? Heck no!
+The joys of Anal Rape So... Degrassi?
+The joys of Anal Rape I say watch Perks of being a Wallflower. It's NOT for kids, but it's really charming.
FireofGia One of my friends actually suggested I watch this too after I bitched at him about the same thing. I started reading the book back in high school but it didn't catch my eye because I had just come off of Slaughterhouse Five, but I think I'm gonna catch the movie.
JFairy idk man I don't think degrassi was quite as mature as I was thinking but maybe I just haven't watched enough. I mean if it can spawn Drake...
Tí mó tàihòu shū. I wasn't asking for a Disney adaptation, just a film adaptation by anyone other than me essentially.
The joys of Anal Rape Sweet. It's one of my favorite coming-of-age movies.
I was 8(and a girl) when the first came out. Saw all three on Disney Channel, listened to the soundtrack with my friends, was in love with Ryan, had a best friend who was in love with Troy, knew all the songs and believed high school would actually look like that. IT WAS AWESOME. NO REGRETS.
Whenever I read "High School Musical",I think of 2 things:
Zac Efron-Cool dude
Vanessa Hudgens-....>:)
ofcourse doug has good things to say about a musical
+lain iwakura You must not have heard about his review of either Mamma Mia or Moulin Rouge
Um...what?
+Patrice Jean-Baptiste nope . omg its like he's like a movie critic or something xD
lain iwakura Are...are you trolling or something?
replying to get alerts on this epic saga spanning the last 30 minutes or so
I can just tell that in a few years or so their gonna make another one of these and it's probably gonna be called: High School Musical 4: The Reunion.
*they're
The closest we got was a Sharpay spin-off
I honestly missed the whole review. I was just singing along to Now or Never. Such a good song.
1:25 That boy’s towel is slung WAAAAY too low.
I think the reason Doug didn't hated it it's because he, like explained in the video, just see a harmless wish fullfillment teenage film. The problem is, to me it wasn't harmless because i survived the HSM phenomenon. This was wish fullfillment in the most shallow, obnoxious, irritating and unrealistic way possible. It shows every ideal about teenage life i hated when i was a teenager.
I think the same applies for me, that and that my brother and I were forced to watch it at at least one point. That drove the hatred for the entire series into us and we avoid it with a passion... at least normally.
I think the same applies for me, that and that my brother and I were forced to watch it at at least one point. That drove the hatred for the entire series into us and we avoid it with a passion... at least normally.
what sick fuck would FORCE you to watch that movie?
High School Musical 3 is 15 years old!
Everyone's facing the pressure and reality of graduating and found to prom and the film doesn't shy away from relatable dilemmas kids face whether it's deciding which college to go to, saying goodbye, or worrying if they'll still stay in touch afterwards
Maybe our hearts doesn't know what's in high school, we all wish it would all slow down, there will always be an emphasis on collective action and importance of group effort over individualism
The songs are way more catchy, more toe tapping, the sets are sparkling with rich detail and colors, the actors are still so charismatic (they're not bad actors even if they're playing one-dimensional characters), and this certainly feels like a closing chapter of a phenomenon
It is after all a thank you note to the fans
I suppose on another level that the movie is overwhelmed by so many subplots it's hard to tackle them all, then again the fans want to soak up every minute before it ends
And I won't lie I was in tears at several points even the ending which is hard to believe it's all over
Again it's an over exaggerated version of high school and cheesy but entertains still with its musical energy
It's a series that celebrates talent, enthusiasm, loyalty, and love not just for tween audiences
Plus it acts as a nice time capsule with a big budget
My second best movie of 2008!
I grew up with HSM and I am reliving the nostalgia now. 😢😊
i used to like these movies, right up until around the time this one came out. by that time, i was well into high school and saw these as getting childish. so originally, i skipped this movie. didnt go to see it in the theater, didnt buy it on DVD. funny enough, i did end up renting it from Blockbuster, if only to see how the trilogy ends. and i actually enjoyed it. nowadays, i look back on it as a guilty pleasure
I am now freakin' 22 year old, but I still can't help but sing along to the songs in HSM. They're just so damn fucking catchy. And the choreography obviously has a lot of work and love put into it. Every actor looks like they're having the time of their lives because they're allowed to be cheesy and over the top. It's just so fun.
As a person who likes things that relatable in an over the top way, I have a soft spot for this series.
I wasn't a big fan of the movies. I watched them with my nieces who weren't even old enough to understand what it was really suppose to be but they loved it. I will say that it does it's job of wanting to be remembered. It took weeks for me to get some of the songs out of my head and really that means it did a good job for the most part.
something i can highlight about this movie, the DANCING. And also the voices, but look for example at the dancing on "i don't dance". i'm 24 now and i love watching that clip
all three films are a huuuge guilty pleasure of mine. I absolutely adore them
I'm male, and the HSM movies came out when I was about to finish/had just finished high school, so I wasn't at all in the target audience, but at the same time I was too old to hate on them, I mean I felt like people were hating on it just because it's a "girly" thing or simply because it was all over the place, I felt like I had to know better. But my then-10 years old sister liked them, so she had the "Sing It!" HSM games for Christmas, and I kinda had to sing duets with her, but at the same time I felt free to enjoy the songs, which to be honest are pretty good. They're cheesy, but they're entertaining and fun.
Eventually I watched the movies, even just to find out how the songs that I learned word for word, would tie in to a story, and I'm pretty much indifferent to the movies. They're certainly better than the average high school romance movies, and in my opinion totally deserved to have the success that they had, if you consider them basically the female equivalent to how superheroes are all over the place. (and by this I'm assuming that the success of HSM comes mostly from girls and the success of superheroes comes mostly from boys, without excluding that either gender can enjoy either thing) Only they're not very much for me.
But with this said, I will always be attatched to the HSM series, because of memories of having fun with my sister, and becase I still know most of the songs by heart.
Nostalgia Critic/Doug
The guy that liked Frozen more than Lion King and actually recommended High School Musical 3
Guilherme Almeida he's a... unique one, to say the least.
Phoenix flame Special Snowflake-ish even.
Guilherme Almeida an "odd ball", perhaps a "weird critic".
I've seen all the high school musicals except 3. well now I have something to do
My favorite DCOM series. >w
My cousin was so obsessed with HSM, she watched it on Disney Channel, she made me go to this movie, it was so sugar coated and weird, it felt like the Kids Bop, Wiggles, Barney and Elmo, all set in high school. It was cheesy fun, not horrible, but it's a tween movie.
Man, I remember when these movies came out and I couldn't stand them at all. The only character I liked was Ashley Tisdale's character because she was mildly entertaining.
High School Musical was a lot of my childhood growing up. I had the toys, costumes books etc. I based what I thought high school was based off this (I was still really young, and didn't have any older family members or anything) Looking back it's cheesy at heck, but I still love it, as it brings back so much nostalgia for me!
i remember how everybody used to hate the hell out of this just because it was fun to do so, but looking back, these movies are so stupid and over-the-top that i can't help but enjoy them another big reason is nostalgia, of course. man these movies, especially the second one, were part of my late childhood (i'm 20 now)
Thanks for showing the final shot Doug, now I know which characters live by the end.
I watched high school musical when I was 2 and I loved it now not so much
Fun Fact: The guy who directed all 3 HSM movies also directed Newsies. Do you think Doug knew that? Also this guy directed Descendants and it's upcoming sequel.
Something's bothering me.
How come Disney didn't make a stage version of High School Musical 3? They did that with 1 and 2. Why not 3?
I miss the SU vlogs
+keimi aqlan Same, but if watching the show feels like a chore for them, then it's best to not force them into watching it. Maybe the show is not for them.
+ANIMAYFAN123 Is that really why they stopped doing them? They seemed to enjoy the show.
oh no , Doug said on his Facebook that he will continue on doing the vlogs it's just that he and his brother are little sick at this time
Sorry, I guess I was mistaken, then again i shouldn't have based my response on youtube comments that I have read, on older SU vlogs
+ANIMAYFAN123 I think they just got wrapped up doing Disney-cember and the Shamalan (spelling?) stuff for january :\ not to mention the stuff with the Shut-up And Talk thing with Don Blooth (again, spelling? xD) and probably other things
I was about 10 when these film were huge. Now that I’m 20 and have recently rewatch them, I have realized how heavily glamorized, romanized and glorified these movies are. As a kid, I saw it as harmless crap and I still do.
Every time I watch this review, I shiver every time he brings up the basketballs falling and the room spinning. That was such a well done scene. I mean, a lot of this is well done, but still, that stands out.
To be honest, I don't think anyone ever argued these were masterpieces. I hated them as a child, because that was the popular thing to do, but looking back on them; they were harmless and happy and cheerful, and I think that's pretty good. I actually do think it'll go on to be remembered as a sort of Grease for the new generation.
I grew up around these movies, so I'll always have a soft spot for all three, they were a lot of fun even if they are cheesy disney channel fluff
I had no idea the first two weren't theatrical
I absolutely LOVE these High School Musical movies.
I was kinda looking forward to hearing him rip this to shreds...but no...he did it to Big Hero 6 instead ;__;
Matt Gamble of course he did he still surprises me still love watching his videos though
Matt Gamble he said Big Hero 6 was just okay
His thought about movies will always surprise me XD we think he will tear a movie apart and surprisingly he likes it. My older sister loved those movies when she was a teenager, and i hated them, but it's funny to see a critic that i respect so much liking this kind of movie^^
I actually had a problem with the ships in HSM 3; which is weird, because I didn't care about the other movies (I love the music)
I was in elementary school when this came out. Actually had a friend who's Dad was the theater manager, and my friend group got to see it in a theater all by ourselves.
Now I'm in highschool, working part time, few friends, and no hot boyfriends to be found.
I grew up with these movies and they were such a big part of my childhood that I went to see the final one for my 10th birthday party. Even though I know they are cheesy as all hell I can't help but love them.
Honestly, my high school experience was a lot like these films. I mean, I didn't meet some guy at a New Years party, but the cheesiness, the music, almost everything else was what I experienced at my school.
Edit: And yes, my graduating class originally chose "We're All In This Together" as our senior song (even though it ended up getting changed)
I used to freaking love these movies OMG xD But even now, I still enjoy the songs. You can't deny that they're catchy!
...I was obsessed with the first movie. I didn't think I'd like it as much as I did and then felt ashamed when I did but damnit, I still love We're All in This Together.
And now, as of this moment, it is the 10th anniversary of the first High School Musical. Amazing how time flies, huh?
WHAT TEAM?! WILDCATS! GETCHA HEAD IN THE GAME!
I was in high school when the first High School Musical came out, and a lot of the girls at my school were OBSESSED with it. I was neutral towards it, but it always surprised me that so many 14-18 year old girls liked it so much.
I was in high school during the high school musical era and my high school's high school school musical was high school musical the musical which i was in so my high school experience wasn't too far off from high school musical's depiction of high school.
"Tv taught me that high school is like some sort of musical" (Mabel Pines)
I love how even GF makes fun of High School Musical. XD
tried to watch this when I was 13. Fell asleep before the half way of the movie. That's my review :,D
Still have this recorded on my TV, I have the DVD SOMEWHERE though. I love this film! :3
I love these movies. I loved them unironically as a kid and I love them for their extreme cheesyness now.
I lived in the US throughout elementary and middle school and in Peru for high school. Every time someone asked me a question about school in the US, like lockers or school lunch or dances, they always said High School Musical was the reason for asking
So happy with this I’m glad that doug didn’t just discard it because of its reputation
i'm so glad Doug actually liked it. i loved the first and third ones and the second one was good. i know he played the booing after he said he may be giving a positive review, but i actually went "Yes!" the moment it happened.
I love the High School Musical trilogy and the 3rd one is definitely the best! xx
0:40 Please don't, it's one of my childhood favourites.
0:50 Oh, thank fuck.
I used to be obsessed with these movies
"Yes, it really ends that way!"
Always cracks me up!
I first saw this movie on my 10th birthday, and it caused me to panic when I thought about what the Hell my future would be like, what things would come and go, the whole kit and caboodle. And it was all because of this goddamn movie that I had my first existential crisis. Jesus Christ, man.
not sad to say I love all the high school Musicals. Especially 3.
lol. This franchise is one of my guilty pleasures.
Zac Efron has been my crush since Kindergarten lol now I’m a freshman in college and I’m still in love with him
I used to think the logic was “if it’s starring teenagers, then it must be FOR teenagers”, and because of that, that makes it even much worse because it reflects nothing like how i felt as a teenager, and it made (teenage) fans even stupider. But now it makes a lot more sense now that you mention “it’s for children who fantasize about being teenagers and romanticizes high school”, as I’ve completely forgotten how fixated I was on being a teenager as a kid myself, once I’ve became a teenager myself. All that mattered to me in my teen years was Nintendo Wii and anime (especially Naruto).
This might piss you off as it did me, in the 2009 Kids Choice Awards, HSM3 beat out The Dark Knight for Favorite Movie.
+Christian Tyler Hannah Pretty sure those two didn't come out the same year.
ShortcakeBun Yup, they both came out in 2008.
Really, who cares about kids choice awards? I mean, The Dark Knight is not a kids movie, not at all. This is definitely more cheesy kids movie that would end up on that list. Im surprised TDK even made it there tbh
I remember that. I was pissed. I was 12 at the time.
I was a freshman in high school when this movie came out
Auslly Love 1000 Same!
