Mysore's Anthem 'Kayo Shri Gowri' in presence of royals Trishika Devi and Yaduveer Wadiyar

Mysore was annexed from the Wadiyar family by the British in 1831. After five decades of struggle, Maharaja Chamaraja Wadiyar X regained sovereignty in 1881. He wanted to invoke divine blessing on the occasion of his coronation.
Mysore court poet Basavappa Shastri composed the poem in three stanzas, ‘Kayo Shri Gowri’ (Protect the King Goddess Gowri). This Mysore anthem was a very popular amongst Mysoreans for seven decades. The anthem ends with praying Chamundi to provide cover over the Chamendra lineage.
Maestro in Mysore court, Veene Venkatagiriappa added the tune in raga ‘Shanakarabharana’

kayuv sri Gowri was our mother s prayer in school. She is about 90 now. She had the privilege to attend the durbar with her grand father who was a judge. It is such a lovely prayer🙏👌
