Appreciate you sir regarding the differential actuator to check for in initial buying inspection of the GX. Just need to make sure it locks and not keep flashing. Grateful brudda. Nice GX modification. Thanks +Aloha -future GX owner
Just did mine. The o-ring and seal had gone. Mine came off pretty easy. The hard part was getting the new oil seal in and getting it back on the car with the right timing
The gear timing is marked by the factory but you will never be able to get it on the same mark unless the actual transfercase is opened. You can how ever slip it back in and run the diff lock hoping it clicks back in to the right spot
Appreciate your work. I check your channel first when planning any DIY with my GX. The center diff on mine seems to engage on it's own. No leaks though, not sure if it's a bad switch or actuator.
@@crutchfieldautomotive7936 That’s what i am afraid off! It’s a 2006 Toyota Sequoia Limited stuck in 4wd. Could i possibly remove the front shaft (short term ) and drive it ? Will the output stay in the TC and not come out if i do this?
I’ve seen people drive with the front driveshaft removed yes, can’t remember without looking at that one but it should be fine and not lose fluid. Does is bolt to tc or slide out on yours?
I'm in the process of replacing the same actuator on my 06 Sequoia. Do you know if it's the same procedure (i.e. turns of actuator) to remove it. It's definitely the actuator that's faulty because I've already plugged the new one in and tested it. It works!! I have unbolted the 3 12mm bolts, and pulled out the actuator, but it doesn't twist either way. Thanks in advance.
@@crutchfieldautomotive7936 Yeah, I think that's what I've researched. My plan is to open-up the actuator while still on the diff. Check the condition of the internals, and hopefully, I find something out of the norm. Also, I'm wondering if I can just swap a new unit without having to remove the 2 shafts 🤔🤔
Hi Ryan. Question: With the transfer case actuator removed, how far should you be able to slide the rod in/out of the transfer case? I'm surprised by how small the movement appears on Maverick; I'm guessing it's less than 1 inch (maybe 1/2" or 3/4"). The rod moves smoothly between the in and out positions, but it's not very far. The rod "clunks" solidly against something at both ends of its travel. If it's supposed to move a larger amount, is there a process I can do that will allow that full range of motion before I install a new actuator?
Thanks for the video. Out of curiosity, any updates on the eBay actuator? Do you think it’s a good product that will last or should I just 500 dollars a for Aisin?
I went test drive a 470 today and went to lock the diff and the light didn’t come on at all. The VSC light came on like it should have. What would cause the diff light not to come on. I didn’t recall hearing anything try to in gauge either. Can you hear it from in the cab?
Sometimes you can hear it but you’d test it best by driving after. You could tell when turning it would feel like traditional 4x4 lurching somewhat in turns
Hey man, my gx470 has the center differential flashing. It drives normal, but feels jumpy when you make a sharp turn at super low speed. The button is not responding. Is it ok to drive like that if its a daily? Or this needs to be replaced? Thanks
Do you still have your old actuator? mine still works but the plastic cover over the seals (held by the phillips head) is broken and I need a new one. Would you sell me thee cover off yours if you still have it?
I am a bit confused on the rod that is existing from when you took off the actuator. My new actuator has a rod as part of it, did you remove the rod from the car and simply place the new actuator, with new rod into the hole where the original one was, or did you remove the rod from the new actuator and simply slide it on to the original rod still left from when you took off the old / bad actuator?
If you can find a used actuator the rod is already removed and can be placed as such. If you get a new one you will have to remove rod or crack open the entire transfer case to use the new rod which is a big pain

Very well done…..is it possible to remove an actuator on a TC with 2 shift rods? Or do i have to drop the TC?
