That fiberglass mesh tape also comes in yellow, which would make it easier to see when you are demonstrating.
Since the camera wasn't overhead, it might have been helpful to paint ball or use marker to show where you were placing tape. White on white hard to see for visual learners. I was very happy to see a video from you. Recognized your name right away! I have always wanted to do this--couple bowling balls in basement waiting.
So it sounds like you could actually build up certain spots if you want it to look different than just a ball. You might want to sculpt it into something else.

Could you just have dunked it in the cement and rolled it around since the cement was so liquid?
would it fit better if the tape is less than one inch wide? My vision is very poor, so keeping it flat against the ball would be very hard for me.
I can’t see the tape, it all blends in as it’s white

Isn't fiber glass dangerous? Is there something that can be used as a substitute for the fiberglass tape?
It’s the fibers themselves, the tiny fragments that float in the air when using fiberglass insulation, that is dangerous. When inhaled, they can cause very serious lung damage.
Ya know, I would use something more solid as a base(substrate) other than a Styrofoam ball? Like a an old bowling ball, ceramic, etc...after all, mosaic glass is not cheap and ya want ya creation to last.
The prep is important and should hold up. Styrofoam is lighter.
can you paint on Thinset instead of the cement ?
Hi Michelle, There are “cement colorants” that you can google online and purchase in liquid or powder form and mix into thinset. There may be a youTube video for that you could watch. Hope this helps!
And you might as well put the ball into bowl first, turning it inside, and after that spread the mortar on its surface with the brush. It would save you at least 5 minutes of your precious time.
