Will, so sorry to hear about this "foodless" trip. 😱🤣. As an old timer, I learned many years ago that it's always a good idea to pack a picnic lunch with some beverages just for that unexpected journey where there is nothing offered to eat or drink. I always bring a little extra just in case my seat mate is without anything to eat. It's a great icebreaker also. Take care and have a great week.
Hi Im from Thailand and I’m very glad you like our train. It’s not luxury compared to other country’s train but It’s such a great experience trying it even from me. I’m waiting on other Thai videos. Great job❤🇹🇭
@@Trektrendy I was born and lived in Canada till I was 9 ( I've grown up as a Brit ever since) and back then you could easily take the train coast-coast. Living in Mississauga ( near Toronto is easiest way to explain I guess) but with family on the island in Vancouver some of my 1st travel experiences were taking the ride across the country and marvelling at the sights and diversity of vistas. Can’t wait for the Japanese train review, I love watching the Japanese travel RUclipsrs videos on them! (If on the Sunrise express, don’t forget to get your shower card as soon as you get on the train, I hear they are limited and go pretty quick!)
My wife and I completed this journey going the other way back in 2012 - We were in second class and that was when you could drink on the train - It was excellent fun and a great night's sleep being rocked by the train all night after a few beers and a few dirty shots of Hong Thong consumed with our fellow travellers :)
Back in 1996 I took the sleeper from Bangkok to Surat Thani. After they made up the berths for sleep, I sat on my lower bunk and watched the scenery out the window. At one point we slowly passed by an open field that was nearly covered with fire flies. It was one of the most surreal and magical sights I've ever encountered.
Thanks for this vid! Nice to see what first class looks like on the special express trains 9 & 10. Not really brand new as you said but still looking superb indeed. When I took this train a couple of weeks ago, it was much fuller already and you could order sticky rice with mango which they then had delivered to the train at one of the stations near Chiang Mai and they offered instant noodles and instant coffee (staff had a water kettle set up on one of the seats, the restaurant section was not there/not operating). If food is still not available in the train, you can get food to take away from the restaurant in front of the station before departure. Eat it quick before the air-con freezes your meal! There are power outlets in second class though! In the corner next to each window. Warning: this train is a fridge on wheels with air-con set to freeze mode. Bring a windbreaker or other clothing that will keep you warm. The blankets resemble a large towel - the cold air cuts right through it. Upper berth, slightly cheaper, is colder than lower birth. Another tip: bring a sleep mask. Lights stay on all night, at least in second class. Welcome (back) to Thailand!
Hi mate, the "ladder" to the upper bed are the 2 folded square metal steps just in the door frame on the right when you face towards the outside to the aisle.
Man love it, turning into my fav travel channel just because of the sheer variety of trains and planes especially trains, which are so unique in different parts of the globe. Keeeeep up the work, please and all the very best. Excited way too much for the orient express vlog, make it detailed please. Thankyou
Remember taking this train back in 2019. Awesome trip, however they refused to turn off the lights in 2nd class, and the airco wasn’t functioning that well. Rough ride but worth it!
As a south east asian guy, you smuggling a beer was the most accurate thing I've seen. Most east asian national transports don't really offer food so we find ourselves hiding food in our luggages. Cool video mate!
Love your channel, but every time you get a shot of you walking away I keep thinking "But does he have to go back to get it... let's hope no one takes it." 😂
💖This video is my home but I'm living in Bangkok Thailand. I'm mixed Thai Swedish Norwich and a mixed of Canadian. Chiangmai is lovely and good for honeymooners. For this Overnight Jungle Train, my mom and dad took it and were having fun plus a great time for the anniversary😊.
You are so damn creative it is quite crazy. The best creator on RUclips. Getting that clip and fitting it in at 11:53 is so underrated. Love your vids can't wait for the next :)
Shame about the lack of food, bet you were starved getting off that train! Great video, as always! Your videos inspired me to try domestic first class in the US. For the price, it was not great! But bottomless beverages and a rather tasty hot meal almost made up for the otherwise lackluster experience. Almost. 🤣
Done this one as well, the newer trains are amazing to sleep in. The food and lack there off was that 4 years ago as well. The bed and room for 2 persons we had was super for the price.
Bringing back great memories have done the sleeper berth a few times over the years on this train and the Bangkok to surit thani one. Really enjoying your channel .cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
I think from now on you need to make sure you always have some snackies in your bag. I would think they would have at least had some sandwiches or something you could have paid for. I always have snacks with me but then again I have a problem with low blood sugar so we're on top of it. I thought it was pretty cool when it was like the little jungle like area all the trees and the plants I was really pretty. Can't wait to see the next trip!
On normal rail journeys in Thailand, there's no buffet car but food sellers get on at most stops with some very interesting delights. Always advisable to bring something of your own just in case.
I can't stop watching your vids! In my opinion, this is probably the best channel out there for this kind of content. Thanks for another excellent video and keep it up!

I just found your channel while working nightshift and have been binging your videos and liking them as I go! Well done videos and excited to keep following you! Thailand is on my bucket list and I'll be going in February so thanks for the video!
Sorry you had no food. I've often done a train trip to the south of Thailand and the buffet car has a great feel about it. 2nd class sleeper seems the same as when I used it in the 90's except the material rather than plastic seating. Great review.
I drove with the night train as well in Thailand, second class, 3 or 4 years ago. It was an ok experience. For me the bed was to hard and the train felt much more shaky than trains in Germany. I had terrible back pain when the night was over and the lights are too bright at night, the curtain doesn't helped much against it. I slept not much or good, but my parents said they slept wonderfull in the train.
