DIE LINKE Party leader Janine Wissler: “We now have to return to our left-wing content”
Janine Wissler, chairwoman of the Left Party, spoke at the federal party conference in Halle about the party's deep crisis. As a result of the split, the Left Party has, among other things, lost its parliamentary group status in the Bundestag. Wissler emphasized that the party has been weakened by internal conflicts and the quarrels surrounding Sahra Wagenknecht. The decline was already apparent in the 2021 federal election, when the party fell below 5%. However, Wissler sees opportunities for a fresh start by refocusing on social issues such as rising rents and health care. According to Wissler, the anti-Semitism debate at the Berlin party conference was not a breaking point, but an important discourse.
