- THEMOVE takes the show on the road to George's Hotel Domestique in Greenville, SC. The guys break down the utter dominance of Deceuninck-QuickStep with 4 riders in the top 8. The great ride by Nils Politt under the direction of Dirk Demol and what his future holds. The guys also look at the history of the city of Roubaix and end the show with some live Q&A from the crowd.
Today's show is once again sponsored by ROADiD Starting on 4/16 check out their site wide sale with items up to 80% off and ID's starting at $15. You can also use the code Flanders for $10 off an ID.
You need to lock down George for the foreseeable future. I love the podcasts with the two main protagonists, , but there is no denying that George gives another dimension and dynamic to the conversation. Smart and articulate guy (George) .... as (of course) is Lance. Looking forward to your coverage of the Grand Tours. Should be one hell of a summer ! From London, England.

Get rid of JB and bring in Christian Vandevelde. Now we gotta team.
@@roadglide JB is like Lance's baby sitter. He keeps him from wondering off, keeps the show focused and moving along. Before JB Lance was all over the place making no sense and being incoherent - and BTW, George wouldn't do the same job because he treats Lance like the older brother.
Can’t wait for TDF, 3 weeks of you guys will be AWESOME, great show as always👍🏻
oh yes, absolutely!
Lance, George and JV... another awesome episode, your insights are like no other, keep them coming!
Gilbert is one of the first cyclists I was able to recognize as outstanding when I started to watch cycling around 10 years ago. Great to see him win this race.
Great show guys you 3 make an interesting team and it works, looking forward to the next race for your colorful commentary! Again thanks guys and great show as always!
as usual, very good one. Clear insight, honest words... keep on the great job!
Ah hey guys great video man, I love them. Ah, phillipe Gilbert rode the new specialized roubaix which as the front suspension and rear suspension. Also Segan ride this bike last year when he won.
Hi guys, just one word, WONDERFUL !! Thank you so much, Craig Murray
I reckon it would be great if the three of you take the the show to the arenberg forest, in 2020 it’s a brilliant atmosphere.. good show lads 👍👍👍
Love you! Thank you for your compelling coverage.
Great to have Goerge's perspective on this race ... what a great veteran of the Hell of the North!
Gilbert and a fair number of others in the top ten were on the new Specialized Roubaix with a front suspension that only travels above the headset, and it has a switch to lock out on the headset cap I think.
29:18 I remember US Postal at the front of the peloton on the cobbles destroyed Mayo and Zubeldia in 2004. In 2010 if i'm not wrong Lance was not lucky on the cobbles because of a flat tire, but he was impressive trying to get back in the race.
Specialized and Pinarello had suspension for Roubaix. The Pinarello was front and rear
So I hear the tubeless rolling off George, but what about the number of flats vs rolling off a flat??? Would love to hear your opinion? And the same on size, why don't they go even bigger than 28c? And Lance, agree with Van Aert, why didn't his team support him coming back????
Van Aert was the only one on the team strong enough to get back to the group.
my patron of paris-roubaix is marco haller, he pulled the whole peleton for like 150ks
Watching The Move on the Classics (and I truly enjoy watching it) makes me realize how blessed we are in The Netherlands and Belgium, where it concerns information on other races than just the TdF. I do think that even Lance and George are quite poorly informed about the participants, favorites and recent events. Calling Jumbo Lotto Jumbo and not Jumbo Visma, while making a big deal about the Deceuninck, is a lack of information (hopefully not a lack of interest). I did enjoy the rant about the proposed reason why so few Americans make it big in European cycling right now. Jillert Anema, a Dutch speed skating coach gave a good insight on that during the Sochi Olympics in 2014. He said that a lot might be relatable to the popularity of American Football which physically destroys a lot of talented youngsters even before they get exposed to the vast world of sports that exists outside the US. Look Jillert's interview up on RUclips, if not anything it makes for entertaining viewing.
kids in the U.S. do not like cycling. If you are a gifted athlete, you go after the money sports like baseball, basketball, and football. Plus participation at the amateur level in cycling is very low these days.
@@markconnelly1806 isn't that the point I am trying to make? You can't love what you don't know.
Kind of missed the point on full suspension; 5 of top 10 were on full sus. Roubaix! Other than that, great pod cast!
Good to know.
Haven't watched it yet, but did they talk about the Specialized switchable Suspension?
@@_clemens_ No. They missed that part; talked about the advantage of disc brakes but didn't see all the PR on the new Roubaix and FS Dogma
How are the cross racers...MVdP and Wout...jumping into these 6 HR races??? And crushing it?!
Wout van Aert was already on the classics scene last year with some very solid perfomances. Mathieu van der Poel was a junior road world champion before his cross-career started. During their cross season these guys put away training hours and intensities, to which many a pro road rider looks at in awe. Tom Dumoulin stated in an interview that traditional road racers should look into the regime of cross champs and learn from it: www.indeleiderstrui.nl/nieuws/algemeen-nieuws/224045/van-der-poel-laat-dumoulin-twijfelen-doen-wij-wel-juiste-manier-van-training
Hey George and Lance! Remember me? I cheered you up Alpe d'H'uez in 2001. I was wearing a blue Levis shirt.
Taylor Phinney is distracted. Absolutely right.
Vanderpoel"s team was there - I saw a "circus" logo on some shorts
Circus also sponsor Wanty Groupe - Gobert
@@Pendulum9000 ya correndon circus wasn't there. They were invited but declined as MVDP is focused on Amstel Gold.
Thank you
About tubeless ask kristoff ( 3 flats and had to change wheels )
About US talent: check the result of the junior race (U-23 category) before you say there is none. Michael Garrison won the bunch sprint and finished 4th, closely followed by Luke Lamperti (10th) and Quinn Simons (20th) in the same group. Two more Americans on P27 and 28 (haha, must be Trek boys). Awesome rundown! I'm running 1080pHQ but the quality doesn't seem up to par. It might be the giant "THE MOVE" screen behind you; yep because the shot of Lance one spot is great--just FYI for future broadcasts.ty
George inserts a promotional announcement and Lance calls him out for it, every time. So maybe there should be a sponsor for every promotional announcement :)
@Edwin Jansen For sure, every time George makes an announcement, Lance could lean into the mike and say, "This public service announcement was brought to you by Joe's Towing of Greater Greenville--when your car breaks down, don't have a breakdown, just call Joe." And for two days of my life in '79, I sold sponsorship tags at KPLS, a radio station in Santa Rosa, California. For hours I called business after business and it was painful, really, interrupting people at work like that. But the tags were successful, a cheap way for businesses to get a blurb on the radio.
Another great show guys! :)
Nice insights from Georges and Lance but I strongly disagree with Valverde killing it on the Ardennes Classics. I think that Alaphilippe is the absolute favorite for those races, especially Fleche and Liege, and then Schachmann, Lutsenko, Kwiatkowski, Adam Yates and Michael Woods are going to be stronger than the spaniard. Matthews and Sagan could also potentially fight for a win in Amstel.
The tech on the Pinarello with the suspension was insane and it didnt even win
Companies have been experimenting with suspended bikes since the 90's. They haven't had much success.
Aeridynamics won Lemond a TDF no way he was winning that tour without the new tech in TT bars, the Pinarello takes massuve amounts of vibration out if the legs that must help.
If Lance is promoting it, I’m buying it!
It's funny you talk about Amstel and liege when Fleche Wallone is a bigger race than Amstel and its Valverde's favourite race, usually, he does not even go to Amstel.
Valverde is competing in this year's Amstel. But the Amstel is in many ways a different race than Luik-Bastenaken-Luik. In The Amstel the roads are very narrow and the ridge on which the race is situated is quite compact, making it an incredibly twisty turny type of race, perfect for riders with great bike handling skills. My favorite therefore, for the Amstel is Mathieu van der Poel. Not only is he by far the most accomplished rider when it comes to bike handling skills, he also made the Amstel his main goal for his road season.
@@jeroenschoondergang5923 i would say sagan easily trumps him with bike ahndeling but he should be tired and skip it to take part in liege. Although my point being that Amstel like you said has never been a Valverde race like Liege and Fleche has he has been dominating them for years, if he wins this years Liege he wil trump the great Eddy.
@@isaksidenius7059 Sagan is great in bike handling, but i think and with me many riders in the peloton, that Van der Poel is of a different level. In the end no prizes are given for bike handling though. Valverde is one of the great riders of his generation and he is about (hopefully for him) to match one of the many records held by Eddy. Only seven wins in Milan, three wins in Roubaix, two in Flanders and two in Lombardia to go. And those are just the monuments..

What are they talking about at the start of the podcast.... Paris-Roubaix starts in Compienge 80 km, a town smaller than Roubaix.
These guys are sitting in South Carolina trying to plug products. Hotels, wristbands, tequila etc. Do you even think Lance would be welcome or anybody would talk to him on camera if he took his podcast to France or Belgium ?
@@eigobike3929That is not an excuse to talk missleading nonsense if you ask me. People who doesnt know might actually get the impression that the race starts in Paris.
Pendulum9000 I am not excusing it, I am explaining it. People who don’t know much will still not know much after the Patron Patron talk talk.
Guess I missed the point you were trying to convey then :)
Pendulum9000 actually we running parallel
He cuts off middle guy and says no, we gotta talk about something else, Road ID. Still The Boss!!
The guy in the middle needs to up his game.

Tiger for The Forward?
Awesome commentary for the win.👌
Great podcast..
Disc brakes are a game changer. And on descents too.
eigo bike nobody needs disc brakes, ask the pro riders, they’ll choose rimbrakes 95%
Peske tarier Mr Peske Tarier: Let’s do this since I don’t have direct access to the pro riders ( and presumably NEITHER do you ). Look at how many Pro Riders now use them. Listen to their interviews etc on how they perceive disc v. rim. Look at how many people agree with your comment and how many agree with my comment. Since we are debating this on Lance’s channel , it is possible you will win the argument since his followers are usually in denial and delusional as their master.
By far , in my estimation, if you could ask the riders and even more if you could ask team management. The problem with disc brakes is the thru axle and the time it takes to replace a disc wheel. So, in a mountainous stage race on a wet day and with a support car, disc will help. Versus the polar opposite, in a time trial changing a disc wheel v. changing a rim brake wheel could add ridiculously expense seconds to a result.
Both Gilbert and Pollit had disc brakes as they entered 1 and 2 ahead of the chase at the Roubaix Velodrome. I would not be surprised if Vanmarcke, Lampaert and Sagan in 3,4,5 places also raced discs yesterday.
@@eigobike3929 theres no time difference...both have a lever you have to turn to unscrew the axle from opposite threads
Great show as always but picture quality seemed a little blurry today.
May have been viewed just after upload. Takes youtube some time to process it properly. I'll look into it. Shouldn't be blurry
Lance looks a little blurry, or maybe just unwell.
It always makes me laugh when Lance speaks Dutch, you can see he has respect for the low countries
low countries??? the fuck that means??
@@JayB-lz6yd It means "lage landen" in dutch. The lowlands in English. I think because the landscape is almost everywere pretty flat
@@mk1cabriokor he woulda said "flat" i would have understood. i never heard the term "low". that's why i was in WTF mode.
@@JayB-lz6yd De Lage Landen are for a large part below sea level, hence the name which translate into Low Countries.
@@jeroenschoondergang5923 i know this country as i visited it few times. i know it's a flat region below sea level. only the term "low" sounded weird to me as i always heard "flat" instead. benelux is pretty much flat everywhere. now i don't speak dutch so... i'm from France by the way.
lmao Lance attacking trek on a lot of podcasts ! i gotta say they deserve it
Technically it's his team. Team RadioShack became Team Leopard and then Trek...
Maybe they should use some of the Trek women riders like van Dijk and why not sign.van der Poel? There is no way that dude would have finished 27th
In France we're always attacking our French teams and i gotta say they often deserve it too
ALAPHILIPPE , VAKOČ, JUNGELS GILBERT
Guys it is Jumbo-Visma not Lotto-Jumbo anymore....
I know, we are stuck with old team names.
This episode seemed a little rushed, not quite the usual relaxed vibe...anyway, still a good listen.
Can I watch this time before you delete it again?
Indeed. The last upload only had 4 minutes of video. We had to pull and repost. Thanks

Texas Weather. FTW
The race money is not much but the guys that win are writing cheques.
36:20 didn't know Bisping liked cycling
ROAD ID, just when you thought it's OK to take your ID on a ride, you were wrong that rubber band saves you 5 grams, that's like 500 Wats man.
No way Valverde wins either race. Too much other talent out there. MVDP amongst many others will crush him.
JB is there to ask newbie questions because a lot of newbies tune into the show.
Museeuw lost to Tchmil on that full suspension Bianchi. He never won on suspension.
video recorded with a potato... come on guys I watch it just to see lance's pretty face. we need 4k
It'll be Alaphilippe over Valverde
Tom Brady credits his mostly vegan diet for less inflammation.
If judging by the Q&A is any indication, the audience was made up of non-American born participants. For cycling to be on the up-tick in the U.S., there has to be grassroots interest especially a concerted effort to cultivate it amongst the entry and junior racing levels.
If discbrakes rub you will lose a race by miles.
No hold ups , pants or rail-crossing ;;;;O/O°
Watching this I have to wonder why they bring in JB. His constant stream of noob questions/comments is annoying
JB is clueless, really don't know why he is there.
@@JockMacHH Just to tee up questions, keep it moving and make the show happen.
Stephen Dowd JB is the man. Don’t hate.
I wonder if Mr Cheat also used dop for making these vids ?
Doping pays 🤫
Taylor Phinney got high during the last tour de france. He's not winning anything.
No US talent for racing? Video games, soccer. RIP
Troy Aikman one of the greatest athletes of all time? Dude needs to get out of America (and probably Texas) more often. Ridiculous statement.
I agree. Football, a thug sport. What a stupid thing to say. JB is such a brownnoser, he's totally intimidated by Lance to the point of saying things only Lance would approve. What a stupid world we live in.
@@tonytim5105 I stand by the fact that Troy is a great athlete, just a different sport. The reason for bringing it up was that he said he could have continued many more years in the sport with the knowledge we have now regarding training and nutrition.
@@TheJbhager OK, I guess I can agree with that, but I can't comment on anything football related as I don't like the sport. In fact, I hate it.- I REALLY HATE IT. And I call bs that he could've continued. How does he know? I guess he believes all the things people tell him about himself. *Like the show, but Lance was too hungover and didn't want to be there. I don't care what the rest of these comments say, the show would be nothing without you. So hang in there. I'm sure it's no fun working with someone as complex as Lance, but he needs to lay off the booze. From one alcoholic to another, he needs to stop. He's at an age now where it really affects his disposition. He needs to face the fact he's an alcoholic. Don't forget, it's as much to do with a personality type as it is the drug.
@@TheJbhager Troy was a good football player, but not even one of the greats in that sport (and not even one of the greats at his position, in that sport). But in terms of overall athleticism, there are so many other amazing athletes from more difficult/well rounded sports that put him to shame. Americans need to realize how limited some of their favorite games are. Heck, there are plenty of Americans that would call Tiger Woods an athlete, which is laughable.
@@tonytim5105 Yes, it's a shame how scared JB seems to be of upsetting Lance.
